[she has to change the subject. Unfortunately, it's a poor choice.]
What about Sam.

I-- I promised I wouldn't.
[ Except they should both know how well that'll go. Deanna is shifty, not quite looking at her, not quite meeting her eyes. A promise is a promise but she can't-- she can't do that, not to Sammy. Not there. Every minute wasted is more time he's down there. ]
uh i accidentally ur little bro's soul
But I didn't. He didn't tell you?
PARTY FOUL, MUCH? JEEZ ANGEL.
Still, this doesn't answer the fact that Cas is so nonchalantly saying-- ]
What?
FOREVER LATER
[She says it before the feeling sets in, an uneasiness that says things are definitely not right and maybe she should....hold off a little. Nope. Too late. Not that she's ever really known the meaning of tact.]
[Castiel's gaze darts to the side, in confusion, then back to Deanna's face for confirmation.]
You haven't seen him.
Re: FOREVER LATER
What the hell do you mean? Of course I haven't seen him.
[ This has to be some kind of sick joke, it can't be serious. Sam's in Hell and while she's been looking everywhere - anywhere for a way to save him, to get him out of there, Castiel has to be joking.
She jerks a hand through her hair, hands smoothing down her jacket, shoving into her pockets, full of nervous energy. ]

[and she stops again, shifting her weight, which is odd for someone who usually stands so still.]
Something's wrong.
[no kidding. And she's not even sure where to start looking. The sigils are still inscribed on his ribs, hiding him from angelic eyes.]
I left him. Here. He said he wanted to speak to you alone.
[she feels strange with the realization that Sam lied to her and she wasn't able to tell. That says a lot about Angel Priorities.

[ Deanna repeats it almost incredulously, getting right up in the angel's face, hands curled into fists as she stares her down. ]
Wow, that's not the understatement of the year. Something's wrong.
[ Anger's easier - easier to cope with, easier to hide behind, because the knowledge that Cas had pulled Sam out of there like it was nothing and her brother wasn't there -- ]
Well, I don't see him.
