Alpha/Beta/Omega

In our world, sexual roles are commonly defined by genders -- male or female or other, by sexualities -- gay or straight, bi or asexual or in-between. But what if they were defined by something else entirely?
Alpha/Beta/Omegaverse is a fusion of fanfiction tropes and animalistic behavior. In this world, sexual roles are divided into three categories: the Alphas (the dominant, the protective and the aggressive), the Betas (ordinary humans) and the Omegas (submissive, fertile and able to carry children).
RESOURCES:CONTENT WARNING: Below the cut contains descriptions of animalistic sexual behavior as applied to humans, situations of dubious consent, explicit situations, mpreg, and scenarios of societal oppression. Click with caution!
Fanlore on the Alpha/Beta/Omegaverse
Alphas, Betas and Omegas: A primer.
ROLES:
1 - The Alpha.
* Stereotypically type A personalities.
* Anatomically: Males have a penis; females may have a penis in addition to a vagina.
* Alphas knot their mates, meaning that the base of the penis swells and locks them inside their mate while they produce copious amounts of semen in an effort to breed.
* Strong sense of smell.
* Near an Omega in heat, they experience a compulsion to mate that is almost impossible to overcome.
* Alphas may go into rut, which is their equivalent of Omega heat, and drives them to mate.
2 - The Beta.
* Ordinary human being.
* Males have penises; females have vaginas.
* Can mate to anyone.
* Might be able to smell hormones of Omegas and Alphas, but will not be overwhelmingly affected by them.
3 - The Omega.
* Stereotypically submissive, quiet, intelligent and less physically able.
* Female anatomy is similar to Betas; males are self-lubricating and may have either an external or internal vaginal setup.
* Regularly go into heat, which involves being overcome by the urge to mate. They are unable to consent while in heat.
* May be made compliant by a bite to the neck. However, that may also induce a mating bond.
* Often regarded as second-class citizens or prizes to be won.
SITUATIONS:
1 - Bonding - Love at first sight. You've spotted your soulmate. You can smell them, you can feel them, you know that they'll be with you until the end of your days. Unless there's something between the two of you. It could be age - maybe one of you has to wait until the other has reached maturity. It could be that the bond is one-sided, and the other has yet to fall in love. It could be an unwanted bond, or society could have divided you into different places. Is your love strong enough to conquer?
2 - Heat/Rut - The need is coming on you strong. Everyone for a half-mile around can smell it. Better find someone to ride it out with, or hole yourself up in a room with a few bottles of water and a durable sex toy. And you'd better hope that there isn't someone out there who will take advantage of your pliable state. Best case scenario, there might be a Beta who can take care of you, or fend off anyone too predatory.
3 - Pregnancy - Whether through a heat or not, you're pregnant. Congratulations - or condolences. Is it time to start a family, or time to start panicking?
4 - Suppressants - You're using suppressants to keep yourself on an even hormone cycle, skipping heats, or maybe pretending to pass as a different class of society. After all, Omegas might want to be in the military, where they're not usually allowed - or an Alpha might want to take a job in a university or as a nurse. Shouldn't they be allowed to, if their hormones are suppressed? Just hope that you don't miss a dose.
5 - Mistaken Identity - That friend that you always thought was an Alpha, or an Omega, or a neutral Beta, turns out to be something entirely different, and your world is turned absolutely upside down. Does it challenge your preconceptions? Or does it just ruin the balance between you two?
6 - Unlikely Pairs - After all, there's no actual reason that Alphas have to mate with Omegas. Maybe two Omegas can satisfy each other. Or two Alphas. Or your intended mate could easily be a Beta. Maybe this is just about breaking out of your pre-established role and becoming something new.
7 - Manifestation - In some cases, an individual may not know they are Omega, Beta or Alpha until their first heat/rut/manifestation, usually happening in early teen years. It may take you by surprise; it may be a blessing, or may be a deep disappointment.
8 - Other - Adventures in getting jobs, making families, fighting bad guys, and anything else you can come up with!

Spock's fault, but the consequences are something they're all going to have to live with. It happens during the fight on Qo'noS, and it happens in a split second. One moment he's beating Kirk away, delivering a tremendous blow that sends the phaser rifle out of Spock's hands and skittering, striking out against one of the last standing Klingons.
She gets too near to him, he recognizes her as Starfleet, and makes a split second assessment; subdue, rather than kill, in aid of getting aboard the ship to those torpedoes. So, rather than snap her neck he simply grabs her by it and forces her down, hard, onto her knees beside him on the cold stone of the crevasses, nails biting in to either side of her throat, growling in an utter assertion of dominance. In almost any other circumstance it'd get an omega reeling temporarily, overcome with a confusing swell of instinct demanding that they obey, that they submit. His nails score a tiny bit deeper and then it hits him, all at once.
That may have been a tiny bit more force than was strictly advisable. His head rushes, heart suddenly in his throat, and his phaser rifle clatters to the ground. It was purely accidental... and now they're all going to have to live with the consequences.]

Uhura had been emotionally unstable for far longer then the incident on planet Nibiru. That had simply been the breaking point. Yes, she had a relationship with Spock. Physical and emotional. Yet he refused to bond with her, which left her in a vulnerable state. Add to that they had just been arguing with each other mere minutes before being threatened by Klingons.
Nyota's desire to bond had been answered, just not in any sort of way she could have ever predicted. Being forced to her knees with a growling alpha she had just watched take out a whole squadron of Klingons left the communications officer feeling dizzy, light headed, and utterly overwhelmed.
That deep pit of loneliness she'd been feeling these past for months suddenly vanished. She could feel her heart racing in her chest, blood surging through her veins, and every cell in her body suddenly felt flooded with Kahn. His essence. His claim over her. She was his, body, heart, and soul]
No! What...what did you do?
[She could never be Spock's now. The horrified look on her face said it all. She was his. Forever bonded to a mass murdering psychopath hell bent on destroying the federation.
She turned her pleading eyes towards Spock, who refused to make eye contact with her at the moment.
Kirk, for his part, didn't seem to understand what had happened just yet]
You had no right!
no subject
[He starts, but that isn't strictly true. He can feel what just happened. He just doesn't want to understand it. The severity and intensity of her reaction takes him just as much by surprise as it does her, and fills him with just as much despair.
She isn't the only person with someone else, to know love directed elsewhere. The sudden connection is almost overwhelmed by the reality of what they've just lost, by her presence near him and her rejection of him. He bites back a confused keen, and staggers a step away, trying to regain his equilibrium.
But it isn't a reality he can run from. He cuts through Kirk's demanding questions, the roar of the wind above them, to tell her;]
Nothing I can say will undo what has been done, but I apologize with all of my heart. You shouldn't have reacted that way, I-
[No. He can't blame her. It isn't her fault either, the responsibility is his, but;]
-I don't understand how this happened, but it is a grave crime against you that I can offer no remedy for.
[His surrender to Kirk would have been absolute anyways, but now he's inclining his head to her. They need to get out of here, and sort this out elsewhere.]

The accusing look she gave him when Spock finally slapped a pair of cuffs on him must have seemed downright venomous. Through their bond she could sense he was telling the truth, he hadn't meant to do this, but she was too hurt, too confused to process that.
It was a lot of process, to say the least. But Kahn was still a criminal and once they boarded the Enterprise, he was led into a cell. Uhura didn't follow.
She waited until Kirk and McCoy had questioned him, waited until Spock retreated and he was left alone before finally appearing. Uncertain how to proceed, it took her a few moments to find her voice again]
Why did you save us?
no subject
You have my family on your ship.
[It doesn't even occur to him to lie to her.]
You would have inadvertently killed them all if I had destroyed your away team. I need your ship, your captain, I need your help.
[It's all true. She may report it back to Kirk, but he doesn't care. The captain needs to open the torpedo on his own in order to stand a chance at believing Khan's story. She, on the other hand, will be able to feel his exhaustion, the panic and grief, the vengeance and terror that have pulled him through all of this. He tries to keep a hold of it all for her sake, but the deaths he caused on Earth were not undertaken lightly or without purpose. He's driven by a fanaticism that goes down right to the bottom of his soul; what could be more dangerous, after all, than love?]
Please.

[It took every bit of restraint she had not to lean against the glass on her end as well. She wanted to feel the warmth of his skin against hers, the solid press of his body, the sharp bite teeth against her neck as he -
No. This wasn't the time for that. Even if she wanted to, Kirk had promised he wasn't letting Harrison get anywhere near her. And Spock....hadn't reacted at all. She didn't know what to feel. On top of that, Kahn's emotions were wearing her down as well. This bond definitely didn't have a healthy start.
He was telling the truth though. She just didn't understand. Why did he think his family was on board the ship? Unless]
The torpedos. I heard Spock saying they were shielded. That's the only thing brought on board the ship before we left.
[She didn't know what to think or feel. Her instincts were urging her to disobey her Captain's orders, open that cell, and help Kahn in any way she possibly could]
You killed a very close friend of Kirk's. He's not going to trust you.
[Sighing, she gave in enough to press her hand against the glass]
But he'll trust me. As for our ship, it's not going anywhere right now.
no subject
[He shivers, and tries to get his feelings back under control again, working hard to spare her from them.]
Tell me what to do? You know him better than I ever could. When I saw him down there, I thought he was an honourable man. Would he kill my crew while they lie sleeping? Will he turn them over, to their certain death?
[Facing her, it feels natural to second guess ploys he'd made so certainly a few hours before. Marcus is coming for them, and he doesn't know Kirk won't give them up.]
do you want to fast forward? Have Kahn transport Uhura and his crew onto the Dreadnought?
[Harrison was just full of surprises. She couldn't believe she was offering to help a known criminal like him. Kirk had seen him murder a room full of officers, seemingly without provocation. She had no doubt he was a killer, but somehow she wondered what the whole story was there. What had driven him to do something like that?]
Kirk doesn't know there are bodies hidden in the torpedos. He'd never fire them if he knew....
[She left the brig to inform the Captain. She was only gone for a few minutes and yet it felt like hours had passed until she finally saw him again]
Harrison, you need to talk to the Captain. Tell him the whole story.
no subject
[He accepts her judgement, and not just because now Kirk has broken into the torpedo and seen. Things unfold- his body count goes up by a few more, Marcus among the dead on the Starfleet ship. If he doesn't beat Kirk quite so ruthlessly before beaming him back, at least that's something.
He also has a very good reason to leave her intact. The torpedos and their occupants are beamed over to his ship, the captain is beamed back to theirs, and no one needs crash land into anything or die over any malfunctioning warp cores, or the like. It leaves them at a bit of a stand off.
Whereupon, he asks to speak with her- recalling all of a sudden that he'd never actually got her name.]
no subject
When did her heart start to skip a beat at the mere sight of him? Had their bond deepened somehow through all this chaos and turmoil?]
Lieutenant Uhura speaking.
[ He had his revenge. He had his crew. What more could he possibly want?]
no subject
[He says, breathing deeply, now that everything is stable, now that his shields are up and his people are safe.]
We are genetically variant enough to humans that we ask to be considered our own race, and that negotiations proceed as though a war between our kind has come to an end.
[Albeit a war of his army of one. He projects quiet reassurance through the bond. No one else will have to die.]
no subject
Her gaze shifted towards Kirk, beaten and bloody, but still very much alive. Only the Captain of this vessel had the authority to allow a truce. As much as Kirk might hate and despise Kahn for the death of Christopher Pike, he knew the ship was in no state to withstand another assault from the Dreadnaught.
There was a long, tense moment before Captain Kirk agreed to the truce and terms. Causing the entire crew to breath a sigh of relief.
Now that all of that was over. Uhura had to wonder, where did that leave them?]
Was there anything else you have to say, Kahn?
no subject
[Inclining his head, quietly.]
Since you had little choice in the bonding, I want to give it to you now. If you ask it, I will wake my second in command and beam myself aboard your ship, or beam you here if you prefer. If you wish, we need never see one another again.
[He wonders if it would fade between them, given time.]
no subject
You can transport me to your ship. Don't wake your second in command. We need to talk.
[Kirk was already protesting when she finished her sentence in that same determined tone of voice that often made even Spock back down]
In private. To reassure the Captain, I need you to give your word you'll return me to the Enterprise in an hour.
[Kahn wasn't going to hurt her, she could feel his reassurance through their bond]
no subject
We're ready to beam you over, if your transporters are still inoperable.
[He doesn't bother to look at Spock. The man wasted his chance.]
no subject
She needed to be physically close to him. Maybe then she'd be able to sort through all these emotions and intense instincts.]
no subject
He waits, for her to orient herself, for her to decide what to do.]
no subject
She held her ground for now, trying to remain calm even though it felt like every cell in her body was screaming at her to yield to him in every way he might possibly desire]
How is this going to work, Kahn?
no subject
[He confesses, drained of every artifice. He's come so far, and to be presented with this on the cusp of victory..]
no subject
You could leave. You'd survive the fading of the bond.
[Uhura wasn't genetically enhanced. She was just...Uhura. An omega rarely survived long if their mate fully rejected the bond or went into the deep recesses of space. He could take his people and leave. Take the selfish way out of this]
You're public enemy number one on earth. The federation has been corrupted from it's very core....and I'm still a Starfleet officer. Do we even try to make this work?
no subject
You come with me, or we both stay.
[Their only choices.]
They won't execute me, if I go to your world, not and risk your life. I'll be incarcerated, somewhere where you can have access to me to keep you healthy. It will ruin your career, you'll need to be constantly near somewhere with a base suitable for keeping me.
[Or, she comes with him.]
no subject
Kahn, I've worked hard my whole life to get where I am.
[He needed to understand that. All the hours she'd put into building her career, all the languages she'd learned, all the careful planning]
But if I can't continue onboard the Enterprise, I don't want to be a Starfleet officer anymore.
[What was the point in being a starfleet officer of she'd be forced to stay on some base just so Kahn could be kept securely locked up]
no subject
[He admits, reaching out to touch her now, just one hand resting on the small of her back.]
So. You'll come with me?
no subject
[Kirk wanted him locked up and nothing was going to change his resolve. She was bonded to Khan. Where he went, she had to follow. Or where she went, he had to follow. But on earth he'd be locked up for the remainder of his life.
She found herself leaning into the arm he put around her. Her head and neck tilting just so]
I guess so. If you promise there will be no more killing.
