Even heroes got in over their heads sometimes.
One could even argue that was the definition of being a hero. Noun,plural he·roes 1. Dumbass who leaps without looking first.
It took a lot to overpower either of them individually, combined they could take out armies.
So, of course, what amounted to a surprise private military nazi wannabes was what there was. Not even Hydra, as it turned out, just straight up Third Reich worshiping shitheels. Steve didn't approve of Midnighter's brutality, but any port in a storm, especially when you were ambushed. He was short on any ally right then, having left the Captain America title behind months back.
"Come on, stay awake," he urged, the other man's arm thrown over his shoulder, though truth be told Steve was using Midnighter for support almost as much as he was offering it. The safehouse was little more than a dilapidated cabin on land that backed up against a protected reserve, but it was stocked and off-grid and the closest one available and right then that was what mattered. Kicking the door open and making a mental note to fix it later, Steve practically collapsed as soon as they were inside, himself, blood starting to seep through the uniform at the gash in his flank.

( i think the default is venti/barbatos being the one injured but i am interested in exploring anemo as a purifying agent and venti 'healing' with song to those who are injured. i'm interested in both venti and barbatos eras.
