d&d

Dungeons and Dragons!
A game as old as time... Dungeons and Dragons! Fueled by dice, pizza, and the limitless powers of your imagination, D&D has the ability to transform an ordinary basement into a extravagant tavern filled with orcs, elves, and warlocks. There are plenty of guides out there that teach you the right way to play, but this is just a meme, so it's fine if you feel like flubbing some of the rules. I won't tell.

how to play;
  • Leave a top-level for your character, including info and preferences. It might help to add whether your character plans on DMing, or just playing as a character in someone else's campaign.
  • Comment here if you're looking to squad up with three or more players; it could help make your search easier!
  • Tag out, have fun, kill monsters.

the players
  • first timer Everyone was new at one point or another. Fortunately, most people are here to help you out as you get your footing.
  • veteran The one who everyone turns to when they can't remember whether a rogue's dagger deals piercing damage or stabbing damage.
  • the DM The one running the show. This is your game, your world, your adventure.
  • the player Most people would fall into this category. Make a character and see where the road takes you!
the game
  • character creation Arguably the most fun part of the game. Your character is making their own character! Characterception?! It can be liberating, but it can also be complicated. What's the difference between knowledge and wisdom anyway?
  • setting the scene DM, do your thing!
  • jail What the heck did you do to wind up in jail?!
  • quest The most well-known aspect of D&D. Some old guy is sending your party off on an adventure!
  • tavern Some old-timely bar filled with fantasy species. Go rub elbows with folk to get some information about the town you're in, or kick back and get wasted. Whatever feels in-character.
  • battle Fight things! Fight things!
  • roll to... It's the name of the game. If you want to get something done, your fate is in the hand of the dice. Whether you want to seduce a guard or do a cool backflip to impress your teammates, the dice are the ones who decide.
  • backstories It's never too early to sit around the campfire and talk about who your character really is beneath the surface.
  • exploration Check out the realm! This place is crazy! They have DRAGONS here?!
  • chat up NPCs Why, hello, fellow traveller!
  • wildcard You've got a whole world to explore!

[First-timer for sure, likely dragged here by Gareth/Will/Eddie/whoever. Assumed CR is A+.]

[ Dungeon Mater ]

[ This nerd was going to be either the best Dungeon Master ever, or the Worst dungeon Master ever.

In front of her players, there was a purple-haired girl with pigtails that didn't so much have a Dungeon Master's screen, but was instead surrounded by probability graphs, performances per character class, behavioral charts for every alternative...

On the plus side, she served everyone a nice lunch. It's actually delicious. ]

The echoes produced by your 40-decibel footsteps have been amplified by the acoustic structure of the cave, resonating and echoing all sounds into the reach of a supernatural creature with a greater sensitivity to sound. In turn, you all hear a dragon lumbering closer. Stomps with a deep bass, and a roar of approximately a hundred decibels. He then says.

[ ... Kotomi continues staring, and continuing with the same tome. ]

My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail is a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death.

[ She's never been a good actress. ]

[ Player ]

[ Sure, the party beat the BBEG, but the problem was, Kotomi was the one that beat the BBEG.

All it took was a sodding Natural 20, and an arrow, and an obscene combination of stacked bonuses that ended a story with a single arrow to the face. ]

Did I do something wrong...?

[ Kotomi asks, green teacup on her right, and a character sheet with ten pages worth of mathematical calculations beneath it. ]

Dungeon master Kotomi pls!

[Loki is playing a tiefling bard here, and he's been less than helpful to the rest of the party this far, but he's clearly having the time of his life. He's not the same kind of nerd Kotomi is, but he sort of speaks the same language.]

Can I roll a...hm. Perception check? I want to see if all this noise is likely to cause instability in the cave ceiling.
dandeliongirl: (Me?)

[ Kotomi blinked. She nodded.

Then, much like a supercomputer receiving a prompt, her eyes scanned pages 86-118 from the Monster Manual, pages 63-72 of Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, and the entirety of The Acoustics of the Caves by Gino Iannace and Amelia Trematerra.

All within the span of five seconds. ]

You can perceive that the cave is more or less structurally sound in accordance to the needs of dragonkind, as its loud sounds and even breath and strikes would normally be able to resist it.

[ The paused. ]

However, you can notice that the great size of the cavern, meant for a dragon twenty-five meters long and towering over you, would paradoxically be enormously dangerous, especially as a mountain with a density of 2,700 kg/m3 lays above it. You can notice it rests on the pillars.

[ Then, Kotomi remembered there was a dragon in there. She leaned forward to speak as the dragon. ]

Well, Thief. I can smell you. I can hear your breath. I can feel your breath.
