Negative CR

Friendships are all well and good, but sometimes you piss somebody off. Sometimes somebody pisses you off. It can be minor, major, unintentional or a well aimed dig. That doesn't matter. What does matter is that now you're going to have to deal with one another.

You know how this works, and there are even some options if that's what's needed to get a thread going.

001. Confrontation. The circumstances vary, but you're facing off with whoever has done you wrong. Are you civil and prepared to use your words, or is it smarter (or more satisfying) to come armed?

002. Revenge. Somebody hurt you, and now you're going to get them back. Face-to-face or something more indirect, just how well do you want them to remember this lesson?

003. Sudden. This fight came out of nowhere. Usually you two get along just fine, are maybe even best friends, but has the secret well of resentment finally run over?

004. One-Sided. You hate them, but they don't even know you. Do you hate them because they don't even know you?

005. Relationshit. And because it's a meme, the ugly breakup is going to have to fill in for the obligatory shipping option. Did somebody say domestic disturbance?

006. Fuck It, I'm Just Mad. Or the wildcard. Go crazy.

[It’s been a while since they’ve crossed paths.

They both know better than to press their luck with it most days, weeks, months. There’s nothing good that could ever come of it, not with old and festering betrayals, seething hatred, and useless guilt sitting heavily in the space between them. It’s irreconcilable. Vander wants to avoid a fight and Silco only wants to pick them on his own terms. And any little encounter always has the chance to throw a spark to that little powder keg, so it’s better not to risk it. Better to focus on their own business, taking swipes by proxy when their people cross paths. As much as he hates to let things drag on this way, they don’t have much alternative.

Today they’re not so lucky. Or maybe it’s just time for the dam to finally break.

The streets of the undercity have never been a place of stability. It has its own brand of calm occasionally, sure, but there is a near-constant ebb and flow to the way things work down here. In cramped streets and corridors, in densely packed buildings, things were constantly in motion. Those in positions of power were always vying for more, and sometimes something has got to give.

Vander should have known enough to think the deal he’d brokered with some folks topside would be too good to be true. When he chose to settle into his place in these dark streets, he knew the kind of mess he was leaving behind. But it was an opportunity. And a risk.

So when word gets to him that the latest exchange broke bad, he’s more surprised than he really should be. He knows he needs to get over there himself to pick up the pieces, salvage things, fix this foolish mess that he’s made. And when he steps through the twisting corridors to slip into the back room of this particular parlour, spacious by Kowloon standards, he finds that he might not have been the only one to get double-crossed here. Or maybe his old enemy had finally gotten tired of playing the more passive game.

He steps into the space, back straight and boots crunching on broken glass underfoot while two of his people trail in behind him. The place is a mess—broken furniture and wrecked supply crates painting just as much of a picture of what happened here as the blood and the bodies. But the dead aren’t the only ones occupying the place; his eyes snap immediately to the familiar slight frame of Silco, bracketed on either side by men of his own.

Vander exhales, slow and heavy.]
