[ Dracule Mihawk lost a bet. It was next to impossible to cheat against him in cards, but he hates stomaching that luck would be so in Crocodile's favor to have put him here. Why had he ever agreed to gamble against a man who had owned a casino for years? (Pride. It's pride almost every time he makes a mistake.)

So here he is babysitting Buggy and some pirates - some of the other man's crew, some eager new candidates to the guild - on a venture that's somewhere between a training retreat and a raid on a planned passing Marine fleet. The Marines are due in another day or so according to the intelligence received from a few black transponder snails tuned into some select frequencies. It's really silly how some organizations forget to change their network passwords change some of their frequencies after disavowing some very wily and dangerous people from their fold.

Tonight is supposed to be easy after some time of prepping to quickly launch their own armada and fight. The armada should show up tomorrow night at the latest, which means there is time to work and play. Mihawk has even begrudgingly given some basic sword lessons because a good chunk of these people are actually newly turned civilians who need the funds. They're basically canon fodder when the guns really start blazing, protecting Buggy's original crew before they board, but who knows? Maybe there will be someone(s) promising among this lot that will last. And honestly, Mihawk had nothing better to do. Crocodile has stayed behind at the base to manage that end of things.

Mihawk knows his true purpose here is to mop up whatever their other forces can't do. Right now, though... He's trying not to look too awkward seated on one of the logs around the beach bonfire that's been set up to boost morale and combat the chill of the sea at night. The tail of his coat has been gathered up and pulled to drape across one of his thighs, keeping it from being too filled with sand. Yoru perches on his back still, the latter bowed enough to keep the blade from scraping the ground. In Hawk Eyes' hands he nurses a cup of hot, mulled wine. It's a drink that feels a little sacrilegious to him, but hell, it's not his own wine on the line and it is very pleasant on a chilly night.

Honestly, he is starting to vibe when Buggy comes over to join him. The others have gained some admiration for Mihawk, but his attitude is so aloof it remains prohibitive to most. He likes it this way. People are best when they're either held at a distance or ignore him, by and large. He does like watching them carouse amongst themselves, however, even keening an ear towards their stories even if he pretends to be indifferent. He can't help but idly wonder if there's a problem that's making Buggy approach him now to not be playing with the others or if he just wants to be away from the crowd as well. Mihawk is good at almost everything he sets his mind to do, but being a leader of masses is something he never wants. He has been the witness to and confidant of a few such people, however.

He's found there is an element of showmanship to every one. He's watched and analyzed Buggy's style recently, has been weighing it against what he's already seen. As the man approaches, however, Mihawk simply appears to be pensive with his cup, offering a nod of permission if it seems to be needed to join him. And he proceeds to say nothing for now, sipping his mulled wine instead as he waits for Buggy to set the tone. He does not expect the clown to sit in silence for long, but that option is on offer to him; a rare thing, perhaps, to the ringleader. ]

She glanced at the other figure seated across from her, the firelight flickering over a cerise-pink lock of hair that escaped her oddly lumpy hood. But she didn't ask any questions, nor made any demands; only knelt to sit. It was cold this night.

But the longer the cloaked figure stayed in the glow of the firelight and out of the shadow...stranger details came to light. Tines of antler seemed to stretch from the hood, and long scarlet feathers curled in front of her knees.]
