1. new addition: from having a baby, fur baby, or adopting to being introduced to your new home or sibling and everything in between.
2. celebration: time for decorations, gifts, food, and plenty of alcohol for the adults! could be for the holidays or some other big event, but the whole family's invited.
3. arguments: no family is perfect after all. is your sibling getting all the attention? or maybe your spouse is spending too much time at work? something is bothering you and it's time to get it off your chest.
4. quality time: it could be something as simple as watching a movie together, going shopping, or something more intimate like bathing or seeking some much needed advice.
5. family vacation: is it relaxing or filled with adventure? a trip to a beach resort or disney world? whatever you choose just remember the most important thing is to have fun, or at least try to.
6. emergency: hospital visits, natural disasters, a missing relative, etc. they say nothing brings families closer together than tragedies.

(it was expected. the entire reason for their marriage to be arranged, that she was wed to a mage and he, a hellsing. still, when integra stares at those two magenta lines she is not entirely sure how she feels. she sighs and sets the test neatly on the bathroom countertop.

pregnant.

it never was something she longed for, motherhood. perhaps if her own mother had lived she would feel differently. and it's true that she has grown to both deeply admire and love kiritsugu and the fact that any child of hers is his makes this development much more palatable. after a moment of consideration, she pockets the test in her robe and exits out into the bedroom.

it's still early morning, the peachy glow of dawn only just warming the room. she can see him still tucked warmly under the duvet; there’s a chill in the mansion certainly in november.)

Kiritsugu? (integra slips back into bed beside him, her bare hand gentle at his shoulder.)

( For Kiritsugu's part, his sleepy mind was in something of a liminal space: half-aware of the patter of her footsteps in the room and her weight against the mattress, yet barely able to note the significance of it. It was morning, after all. Hardly unusual for Integra to stir at the hour.

It's only when she retreats back underneath the comforter and places her hand atop his shoulder that causes him to shift, rolling onto his side and viewing her with half-lidded eyes, words tumbling from his lips in Japanese-- and for once, doesn't seem all that intentional. )

Something wrong, dearest?

(integra shifts close, finding his expression of half-sleep quite endearing. she picks up enough of his japanese to gather his question.)

Wrong, no. (she speaks in a low, calm tone and shakes her head. there's a considerate pause; should there be more formality to telling him?)

Kiritsugu...(she presses her lips to his temple.)

I'm pregnant.

( His response is a compulsory one, near immediate. Giving her a soft nod of his head, as though easily agreeing with her, half-aware of what she was even telling him. Twining his arms around her lithe frame to pull her close, and basking in her warmth. )

Oh, that sounds nice.

( That is the point where his eyelashes flutter, wide-eyed and bewildered. Okay. He knew this was a possibility some time or later, and yet, his brain could barely process it. Huh??? HUH???? )

I see.

( Just. Windows shutdown noises. )

(in hindsight, integra should have waited until he was more alert. after coffee, perhaps. she lets him tuck her close against his body; it feels warm and safe here with him. she is just about to restate the news when kiritsugu actually opens his eyes and seems to more fully acknowledge it.)

I was a little late and took a test, (she explains, though possibly more to fill the silence of his reaction than anything else. she knew her own feelings on the matter were complex and she should not expect different from his own. but the lack of positive response somehow makes her feel quite anxious.)

"I see"? Is that all? (she manages to temper her tone into something non-accusatory. barely.)

( Kiritsugu shakes his head, lingering for a moment more. It hadn't been his intention, feeling himself more in shock than anything else, but he knew he disappointed her with that. He couldn't say the prospect wasn't disorienting for him. Still so close, he attempts to collect himself, lacing a hand into her silky hair. )

No. Just a bit surprised, is all.

( He was still processing it, after all. But he hoped he could reassure her, as his nails lightly scraped against her scalp. )
