Most societies have certain mores that are unspoken rules; humanity itself even has such conventions, grilled subconsciously into our minds for our own safety. Don't go out alone at night. Avoid getting wet when it's cold. Don't pick fights with those stronger than you...okay, some of us missed the boat on the last one, but the point still stands. Society's rules tend to be more variable, though they apply to most aspects of life - including sex. In fact, bending the rules on what's considered acceptable in romance and sexual encounters can lead to anything from ostracization to death, depending on the time and culture.

So, play it close to the chest if you're going to do a big, big, big t a b o o. Is it worth the risk?

[They've been so many things to each other and for each other throughout the years that Natsuo doesn't put any more weight on this one role simply because it involves physical intimacy. Siblings aren't supposed to share that sort of support, after all - no matter how much they love each other and how they express it, they can't be actual lovers anywhere but inside whatever four walls they call home, so neither of them has stopped seeking out "proper" partners with whom they can spend their individual lives.

But at times like this, with both of their lives turned upside down and members of the press bearing down on them every time they cross the threshold of the home that was supposed to give them a feeling of safety, Natsuo can't imagine reaching out to anyone else. How could someone he won't meet until tomorrow or a week or a year from now ever fit as perfectly into his arms and his bleak disaster of a headspace as Fuyumi does?

The goddamn reporters are outside again now, having followed the family home from a hospital visit with Enji, and their mother's having a chemically-assisted nap in her bedroom. It's not exactly what anyone could call "alone" but instead of taking Fuyumi's hand when he finds her in the kitchen and leading her to his room, he just wraps his arms around her from behind and pulls her close right then and there. His mouth finds the top of her head for a comforting kiss before he dips his head and nuzzles past her hair to kiss the shell of her ear, then the lobe.

By the time he reaches her neck, it'll probably be evident that this is more than just a show of affection on Natsuo's part - it's a plea for her to lose herself in pleasure with him for awhile, here and now, when the world feels like it's trying to crush all the joy out of them.]
