THE TRAIN TO THE AFTERLIFE

Congratulations! your character is dead — for whatever reason, whether it be canon, au, what have you. it'll be a bit of a journey to the afterlife, though, so your character might as well talk to the other people. death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. but death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be familiar people, whether recently deceased or long so. maybe your character know how they died, maybe they don't. perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear. maybe it was simply their time or maybe they weren't at all ready to go, but none of it matters. your character knows they're dead and the train is taking them to an afterlife.

(( boop! this tag might be playing under a little assumed cr that maybe kaito's been to hungary (the country), spoken to hungary (the person), and possibly settled a supernatural dispute between hungary (person) and those who would do mean things to hungary (both)? something not super high stakes, but there was likely a nice bowl of ramen at the end of the day. lemme know if that doesn't jive and feel free to fill any blanks! ))

[ How does a nation die? Is Hungary (the woman) more akin to a regional deity whose existence relies on faith and cultural relevance? Or is she as vulnerable to the reaper's call as anyone with soft flesh?

Admittedly, neither of these questions are on Kaito's mind as he slinks his way through the cabin. Soundless steps guide him to the brunette, and upon arriving he plops into a seat across from her. There's no clear visual indicator to the cause of his passing, and he's wearing a laid-back smile. ]

It's nice to see a familiar face, but I also feel bad. Hello again.

[ Transportation following passing through death's door isn't expected. There's something of both a let-down and a comfort in the familiarity of a train. He's walked from car to car to attempt to find a quiet place to sit, maybe a book. The longer he goes, the more sparse the passengers get.

Nanami is just about curious if the train ever actually ends-- that's when he spots a familiar face as soon as he enters the next car, a face that definitely solidifies this is not the world of the living. ]

[ The train wasn't where she thought she'd find herself. There had been a party hadn't there? There'd been music and drinks and laughter.

Her head was fuzzy, and she patted down her pockets for a smoke to settle her thoughts. But she came up empty to numb fingers, the squeak of the trolley wheels caught her attention and she asked without turning. ]

Pardon, do you have cigarettes? I can't seem to find mine.

[Never much cared for trains, in life. Seeing as he expected devils, perhaps a train should come as something of a relief.

He remembers telling his big brother that, whatever the afterlife is, he'll get the drinks in and wait for him — and he means to do it, too, until the sight of Grace arrests him. She always did have his wild animal heart caught in some snare.

She doesn't have to turn around, because he knows her as completely as any person can ever know another. He saw her many times after she died: every night in his dreams and very often while he was awake too. It's different, seeing her now.

He doesn't have his cigarettes either, but he's already pinched some from the trolley by the time he's standing over and beside her. Not a single care for his seemingly-immortal soul. If a person he loves needs anything, it doesn't matter whether that would be the last crime of his old life, or the first crime of a new one. He works the pack open as he goes, removing one for her and one for him.

She'll recognise the hand holding an unlit cigarette in offer. He'll bend to light it for her as soon as she's taken it from him.]

You're a Shelby now, Grace. Don't ask. Give orders.

[ What's a god of the dead and the actual anthromorphic personification of death doing in a train? Well, she's dressed like a train conductor but all in black, with her silver ankh the only accessory. No hat today, though. ]

[ all things considered, Cal Kestis is reasonably calm about the fact that he is dead. After cheating it so many times before, death was bound to catch up to him sooner rather than later. It came with being a Jedi, with the path he'd put himself on. All things considered, he has no regrets about the sacrifices he's made, up to and including the one to give his life to save his family.

They are safe. They are nowhere to be seen. He half expects to see BD-1 peering at him. His loyal friend who'd been by his side all along, always looking out for him. He would watch out for everyone now that he was gone, Cal has no doubts on that.

Now... he is on a train, because of course he is; he shakes his head - staring out the window, watching the scenery fly by.

It's peaceful. Almost a little bit too peaceful.

[Rolo has just died after his first and only act of free will, his first and only act as a 'human' and not just a 'tool' manipulated by anyone - sacrificing himself for the only 'family' he had ever experienced having. The time he'd spent with his 'big brother' was not a lie. It was real. He was loved and had started to learn how to love, even if his idea of love is a little distorted due to his twisted upbringing...

Rolo opens his eyes and finds himself on a strange train. Is this what happens when one dies? What is he supposed to do now? It feels weird to be able to make his own decisions now, instead of following orders or having to fulfil a mission. Then he notices he's holding his flip phone. He lifts it up to gently caress the locket attached to it.

Brother.

Yes, his big brother is safe now. He saved his big brother. That's all that matters. What happens to him now doesn't matter.]
