You're in a deep, dark pit that you can't climb out of easily, and you're trapped together. Maybe it was a trapping pit, maybe it was an open manhole cover, maybe an uncovered well or elaborate secret trap in a spooky house - but whatever the cause was, you two fell for it. Literally.

After looking up at their situation, he sighs, bends down, and takes a knee, lowering his head. He doesn't seem uncomfortable on his knees, despite his age; his job must involve a lot of kneeling and bending down (not like that, you pervert, get your mind out of the gutter).

"Go on, then. Up you get." Is he... inviting them up onto his shoulders? At least they're decently broad, hinting at some strength and athleticism on his part; he wouldn't offer if he didn't think he could carry them, after all.

2. (Otherwise)

After looking up at their situation, he glances at the other appraisingly. He doesn't seem quite comfortable bringing the subject up, but....

"Do you think you could hold my weight? If I get anywhere, of course, I'll help you up after me." Without a rope or a ladder or something else to climb on, all they've got to gain any height is each other.
