The Swear Myself to You Meme


It's been like this your entire life. Or perhaps it just seems that way, since it's been this way so long. Or it could hasn't been that long, and you remember what things were like before - worthless, fruitless, purposeless. Now, though, all is different. You've sworn your life to someone...or had your life sworn to them by someone else, back when you were young or powerless enough to not control your life. It doesn't matter if this swearing is an expected part of your society or an oddity in a modern age, here you are, and you know what you're here for. This isn't servitude, not in a fashion, as there's theoretically an honor here in your absolute loyalty. You are essentially on your "sworn duty's" level, you've just, well, chosen to dedicate your life to them. So if you're their best or brainwashed into being their right hand, all of it comes from a place of admiration!

Theoretically.

Your position, of course, means you're a tool to be used, and every job needs a different tool. What's your job? Were you raised from an infant be be a constant companion for the one you're sworn to, who you grew up with? Instead, you could be a bodyguard or a first line of defense. In some cultures, there's an expectation that people be good in bed for future spouses; you could be there to train the one you're sworn to in the art of lovemaking. Of course, how well you're able to do your job depends on how your relationship is with your most important person. Are they kind? Cruel? What if they don't want you? It will be incredibly awkward if neither of you want to be in this position.

One certainty is this, however: romance and sexuality, unless heavily controlled, is forbidden. After all, how can you effectively dedicate yourself to them if some part of you wants them to dedicate themself to you?

How to Play

• Comment with your character, your preferences, and what side of the equation you'd prefer to play - the being sworn to or the one doing said swearing. There are also three settings available: old fashion, modern, and future. You may want to specify which one of those you'd like, if you have a strong opinion.
• Reply to others.
• Use the RNG to determine your scenario.

Setting

1. Old Fashion: In the days of yore, be it ancient, medieval, or pseudo-Victorian - or altogether fantastical.
2. Modern: The here and now, where swearing to someone is pretty rare.
3. Future: Years from now, who knows what strange alien cultures and technologies we'll have to abide by?

Prompts

1. From Birth: You two were raised together, as one of you was given as a baby. There's no one who knows the other better than you.
2. BFFs: You are intended to be their lifetime companion...platonically, of course.
3. Repayment: You owe your life to them in one way or another. Devotion is the least you can do.
4. Out of Love: The reason you swore yourself to them is because you love them and this is the best way to be close to them, even if you have to sacrifice other things.
5. Unwilling Charge: Can you swear yourself to someone who doesn't want you?
6. Spoils of War: Being here and swearing allegiance isn't your idea, but when you or your people are defeated in battle, there's not much else you can do.
7. Ward: Perhaps you weren't there as an infant, but you did grow up in the family from a young age. They may be like a sibling to you. Would you be able to view them in any other way?
8. Marriage: ...a marriage is sort of a swearing, isn't it?
9. Mind Control: You need to be more pliable and loyal to be any good, servant.
10. Familiar: You were created through magic just for them.
11. Guard: Focus. You have to protect them, and you can't if you're distracted.
12. Eunuch: You're supposed to be completely chaste and celibate, or at least that's what they and those around them think.
13. To Teach: Your charge is going to be married, and you have to teach them how to please a future spouse.
14. Jealousy: You know you're not supposed to be
15. More than One: Someone else has sworn themselves to your charge...you were here first!
16. More than This: You want to be more to them than just a glorified servant.
17. Unwilling Charge: They don't want you, but you have to serve them.
18. Redemption: This is your way to make up for the sins of your past.
19. ...what?: How to you get someone sworn to you again?
20. Utter Devotion: There isn't anything you wouldn't do for them. Anything.
21. Forbidden: Being with them sexually is a punishable offense for you, but neither of you care.
22. Equals: In society, you two are on different levels. In private, you see more eye to eye.
23. Not Too Serious: The more crack-y option. They saved you...but it was from something like stubbing your toe. Obviously, you owe yourself to them. Or something.

Being a queen is difficult at times (many times) but Sansa feels as if she's finally in the right place for the first time in her life. She's always been told she should be one thing or the other, told to be a pretty face or that she's meant to be some man's wife but now, as Queen in the North, she feels as if she's herself more than she's ever been allowed to be.

The lords of the North enjoy their independence from the South immensely but it has taken them time to adjust to having a woman rule over them - a woman who isn't married to a man who guides her every step. Sansa makes her own decisions and has her own mind and while some lords appreciate that about her, others push back at her and frustrate her to no end. After a particularly fraught council with Lord Glover, Sansa does her best not to storm out and calls for Sandor to come with her.

"I need to get out of this castle before someone gets the sharp edge of my tongue. Come riding with me? Just for a bit?"

Sandor is, and has always been, a good Kingsguard — and Queensguard at that, makes no difference. He knows how to stand motionlessly for hours on end, saying not a singular fucking thing as whiny nobles and peasants prattle on about their inconsequential problems. Lying, insulting, manipulating, playing the game. He knows better than to speak up, for the most part, save for the occasional subtle leaning forward to mutter a word or two of sage advice when absolutely necessary.

Generally speaking, the North treats him far better than the south ever did. People are more honest here. More brash, louder, but at least for the most part they don't bother prettying up their words as much, or talking out of both sides of their mouth. He got sideways looks for the first several weeks — his reputation proceeds him, even this far from Kings' Landing — but the clear and sharp trust of the Queen in the North has rumor and mistrust fading away easily enough.

It's not a bad life. Better than he'd have banked on. Better than he deserves.

He takes her ask as an order, and complies without complaint. Following obediently like a good dog, because that's what he does, and accompanying the Lady of the house on a ride is part of the job description. Wouldn't trust any of the other cunts here to keep her safe, do it right. Better him.

It's a while before he speaks up — once they're already saddled and mounted, and well out of earshot.

"Lord Glover's got a big mouth. He'll undermine you to your banner men if you're not careful."

"You're not wrong. I suspect it's because he wants to be in my ear and in my bed, neither of which he'll be getting. He seems to think that I am incapable of ruling my country without a man guiding my hand and telling me what to do. I don't need him spreading that poison around."

Sansa hadn't always been a good horsewoman, preferring wheelhouses when she was younger, but there's a freedom to horseback that cannot be found other places. The air is still crisp and cold in the North even if there's been new green spotted in a few places and a dream that spring may be on the way.

"I am his queen. I do not intend to make an example of him the way some queens might but he will listen to me and come to heel. I am not to be trifled with."

In my ear and in my bed; he says nothing, but the way his eyes peel off toward the distance and his lips press flat into an unhappy frown may say enough. He'd best keep himself at a respectful distance, with all of his appendages out of Sansa's ears or any other part of her body. Not that it's any of Sandor's fucking business, but she could do better than that smarmy bastard.

They trot onward. Stranger seems impatient with the gentle pace, but he pats his steed's neck absently to soothe that restlessness and temper him a bit. The grumpy horse shakes his head, but matches speed with Sansa's kinder mare.

"Say the word, your grace. Always happy to teach a beast to heel."

Plenty of experience with kennels under his belt, after all. Can't say he wouldn't take a personal sort of satisfaction in handling the man. He's just got a punchable face, is all.

Nothing in particular, just thinking he runs into her during his years traveling Teyvat and maybe he stays and protects her for a while or we can say Ayato connected Diluc to a lot of contacts that helped with his revenge/research into delusions. Maybe he offered other support in exchange for him to either guard/teach Ayaka about the outside world (not bc she needs it but bc it would make her happy) or maybe they even go so far as to marry them together for some alliance.

A combination of 7 and 20. Maybe he's been there since childhood and he there is an alternate history. He confided in Diluc that he thought Kaeya was a spy or not who he said he was but he was reprimanded for saying that or Diluc dismissed it. Only Thoma ended up being right and now Diluc trusts him. Maybe Thoma is like Alfred managing the 'bat cave' for Diluc.

[Hmm. Cute. Though I'm not agreeable to the concept of Kaeya being a spy when he's much like a pawn (CN text) and how secretive Kaeya was in their childhood. They do have their complications and Thoma could have his doubts about their relationship.

We can focus on two points - because Diluc and Kaeya already work together on protecting Mondstadt day and night, you can decide what Thoma does day-to-day to support him.

Or he follows Diluc secretly while he's on his rampage against the Fatui in the last year or so before he returns. What do you think?]
