The mark on Stede's hip looks something like a skull. He's always been secretly proud of it, like it is proof that he was never fated for a boring life as a lily livered rich boy. Like there was always daring adventures in his future. And a soulmate he would share those adventures with.

When he had married Mary, he had kept an eye out for a matching mark on her skin, hoping against hope that somehow she was his soulmate, and this marriage wasn't merely for money and status. It wasn't easy to look for a mark on her though. Their dutiful sex for the sake of children was perfunctory and more often than not done in the dark and mostly clothed. But as time went on he came to realize that Mary's mark was on the small of her back, not her hip, and was a butterfly, not a skull. She wasn't his soulmate. Still, he remained dutiful to her and their children until he could take it no more and set sail to be the skull-marked pirate he knew he could be.

When Ed came into his life he had felt an immediate kinship with the man. They spent time together, talking and fencing and exploring and pirating. He wondered if maybe, just maybe, Ed also had a skull on his hip. But he was too hesitant to ask, terrified the answer would be no. He would have finally asked when they made their escape from the King's service. But instead he had been a fool, a damnable fool and a coward to boot.

Stede has been searching for Ed, hoping he can make right the wrongs he did to the man in his moment of extreme weakness, when he fled instead of meeting Ed at the docks. He doesn't know if anything could ever be sufficient. He's heard about what Ed has become, and has been warned that the vicious pirate isn't likely to take him back, or let him live. But Stede doesn't care. He would rather be dead than be without the man he loves, whether or not they.are soulmates.

After weeks of searching, the lookout of the small vessel Stede commands has spotted The Revenge, and they're approaching. Stede's heart is a jumble of hope and fear and worry and shame and love and love and love.

Prince Prompto Aldecapt had lived a rather sheltered life. He had never been beyond the borders of Niflheim, had rarely even been beyond Gralea. His father barely spared him an ounce of affection. He was raised by a nanny, and tutors and left in the care of his bodyguard as soon as he was old enough.

It had been a lonely childhood.

The only time he really saw his father was when there was business to attend to. He had only ever heard his father speak about Lucis in negative ways, so it surprised him when his father announced that they would be journeying to Insomnia to meet with King Regis and his royal council to discuss a Peace Treaty.

He was nervous and excited for the journey. A bundle of excitable nervous energy the entire way, much to the disdain of his father. Seeing the city give way to snowy tundras, giving way to greens. It was incredible! Prompto found himself taking photos of everything.

Insomnia, itself, was like something out of a dream. He had only ever seen pictures of it in a book. It was stunning! Prom wanted to take more photos but it was considered unbefitting for royalty to act like tourists. It sucked, but Prompto didn't want to do anything to embarrass his father.

The initial meeting with the King was to take place at a welcome gala. Prompto felt sick with nerves. He was dressed in his best Imperial robes - white, edged with gold and red, emblazoned with the Imperial emblem.

He followed behind his father, making his way along the line of council members, royal dignitaries and the like, greeting each one in turn. He bowed as he greeted the King, following all the lessons he had been taught, then came the moment for him to greet the Prince.

Oh. Oh. He was beautiful. The most beautiful thing Prompto had ever seen in his life. He was stunned into silence until his bodyguard, Aranea, cleared her throat behind him. Oh. Right. Manners. He bowed, before offering his hand. "... Your Highness."
