The Dating Meme
Dating is, when you think about, really weird. It's a totally different thing for different people. Some are friends for years before they date; others start dating on the same day they met. Sometimes, there's a lot mushy stuff involved; other times, the couple acts just like friends. None of this is necessarily right or wrong.
Whatever it is, your character and the character you reply to are now dating. How? That's up to you. Whether it be awkward or not, the relationship will be uniquely theirs.

[ Rebecca had been in the midst of a whirlwind of activity making the apartment nice and tidy for Yu's visit, from dusting to vacumning - normally she didn't have to do much, but since she'd been off planet the past few weeks, a quick once over was always good. She didn't want him thinking she lived like a slob! Happy on the other hand, was over by her gaming shelf, looking through potential game options that they could all participate in - or that he could at least watch, since there were quite a few that were one or two player only.
When Rebecca finished vacumning and gave the apartment a cursory glance over, she nodded to herself and padded over to Happy. ]
So, what did you find?
"Hrm - well there's Valley of Silence for horror options, then Super Plumber Brothers - that one's got both party and co op games for four, I also pulled out two shooter games - one that's an action rpg with stealth mechanics, and one that's just a straight shooter. There's a PVP game in there too. Think that'll work?"
Yeah, I think that's perfect, thanks Happy! Yu should be here soon, so - here's hoping. I know you'll like him, he's really nice~!

[Yu had not been over the house of many girls in his time. Usually he met his female friends in other places like restaurants, stores, after school when he was still in high school... so this was in fact a first for him. Rebecca had basically reassured him that this wasn't a date, so much as two friends hanging out, but he still had a few butterflies in his stomach.
Yu had prepared for this not-date in the form of some tasty treats for Rebecca and Happy respectively. The fried rice was sealed in an air tight plastic box, and was one of his finest culinary creations yet. The fish was a cleaned Inaba trout, caught hours ago and could easily be turned into sashimi if it weren't going straight to the cat. He debated getting a river guardian for him since the cats on his neighborhood loved them so much, but he suspected at Happy's size he'd probably go into a small food coma.
Taking a deep breath to steady his nerves, he reached the door number to Rebecca's apartment, and politely knocked on her door.]
Hey Becky? It's me.

[ There's some rustling at the sound of the knock, and then Rebecca calls back. ]
Hi Yu! Be right there!
[ And then the taptap of feetsies trotting across the room to carry their owner to the door, with Rebecca beaming happily to let him in. She'd chosen to dress casually, barefoot of course, with a short-sleeved shirt with a scooped neckline and a pair of jean shorts. Her apartment was particularly fancy, there was a cozy breakfast nook, living room and kitchen, as well as a set of closed doors that lead to the bathroom and the bedroom respectively.
Over by the corner of the room, near the windows, there was a computer setup for her streaming equipment and PC, while a short distance from that she had a bookshelf with her consoles for gaming. A blue cat was currently taking some games from the shelf and stacking them neatly, but when Yu arrived, he turned with a smile mirroring Rebecca's. ]
"Hello Yu, Welcome! I'm Happy!"

OH NO, SHE'S HOT!He really needed to calm down his overactive imagination when he saw Rebecca in her cute casual clothes. He was blushing a little bit, and looking away momentarily so that he could calm those damned butterflies in his stomach.]You look great Becky.

Nice to meet you too Happy. I made sure to bring you a small offering too. Maybe next time you can come fishing with me so you can enjoy it fresh from the river but...
[He pulled out the the sealed plastic container with Happy's sliced up Inaba trout stored inside, pulling off the top for the azure furred feline.]
Here you go! Be sure to thank Becky too, because I wouldn't have thought to pack some if she hadn't told me about you.

[ She won't admit that she did take a little extra care on her apperance - not-date or not, it WAS a guy coming over to visit. Smiling instead as she watched Yu go over to greet Happy. Happy, for his part, lit up like a little blue furred lightbulb at the sight of a fish, complete with sparkling eyes. ]
"Wow! Thank you, Yu, you didn't have to do that; I'd really like to join you sometime. I haven't been fishing in a long while." [ He glanced to Rebecca next with an even bigger grin, clutching the fish. ] "- and thanks Rebecca!"

[ Naturally she'd talk about Happy though, and Rebecca grinned at how happy her little friend was. She glanced at Yu, rocking a bit on her feet. ]

He really is an adorable little guy, although you never mentioned he talks. That makes him even more amazing.
[Oops... did that somehow escape their conversations with one another? Yup, Rebecca had failed to ever tell Yu about Happy's quirks!
He chuckled as he took out the larger container of fried rice for two.]
Nah, I was able to rely on the map app on my phone. The wonders of tech will never cease to amaze.

I didn't? [ Ah, embarrassment - made worse when Happy stifles a laugh of his own behind a paw. ]
"It must be because she's so used to me talking with everyone else, that she didn't even think about it, right?"
[ Happy couldn't help but tease Rebecca, who grinned sheepishly. ]
I know there are different kinds of cats out there, it's sometimes a little surprising that there are some who don't. [ She perks up at the rice though, her eyes lightning up as she nods. ]
Sounds like a plan to me! That looks great, Yu. Oh - would you like a drink? I have a couple of different drinks, unless you're more keen on water or tea.

Sure do! Happy, give me a hand? [ She'll take the bowl of rice so that she and Happy would go into the kitchen and get some smaller bowls that were easier to eat out of - for all three of them. Happy on the other hand, grabbed three different bottles - a melon soda for Rebecca, a bottle of milk for himself, and a bottle of apple juice for Yu. ]
I wish more animals in general talked like Happy - but then again, if they did, he wouldn't be as special and unique here as he is. [ She grins teasingly on that - she knew Happy didn't care about being special or unique as long as he could stay close to her. ]
It's funny, but you know, some people wouldn't even consider Happy a cat just because he DOES talk. Well, that and his other traits. [ The being blue, talking, walking upright like a person.. ]
"Rebecca got into an argument with someone who said that a few months ago." [ Happy seems more amused than offended, as he hands Yu up the apple juice. Even if Rebecca still looked a bit peeved at the reminder of that stubborn man. ]

He takes a seat near the TV for when they're likely to play video games after this. He was a pretty clean eater, so he hoped she didn't mind if they ate out here. Then again if she did wouldn't she have asked him to join her in the kitchen? As he sat and pondered, he couldn't help but smile when he saw Happy carrying his own bowl. If he knew Happy could have fried rice he would have made more, but he usually cooked enough to have leftovers so it was probably fine.]
Well what else could he be? He's obviously a cat.

I know, right? I even tried explaining that Happy - [ She pats Happy on the head, the cat waiting patiently for conversation to stop before digging into the food. ]
- isn't an Earth cat, and there are cats on other planets who look different, but he just kept insisting that they shouldn't be called cats. [ She makes a face - some people around here were real jerks. ]
Oh! I.. well I don't know if you're religious, but we're not so you can start whenever you like. Unless you wanted to say a prayer..? [ She's.. not really a fan of churches in general, but she wasn't judging. ]

I think if Happy wants to call himself a cat, that is the most important thing. The fact that he would still fall into the feline category of species identification certainly would be one major factor in his favor. He my even have matching genetic makeup with Earth cats.
[He chuckled as he twirled his eating utensils in his fingers.]
I'm not very religious either, and I've met deities, demons, angels, and other religious figures. Perhaps the fact that a goddess tried to destroy my world has a little to do with that, but I wasn't very religious before that. I think the best thing is to simply be thankful for what we have, and enjoy.
I was going with chopsticks, but Rebecca would have both out for free options! :D
"Mhuw?" [ Already starting in on his rice, Happy had not been paying attention to the conversation in the least. Rebecca giggles. ]
Never mind. [ She turned her attention to Yu and her food again, humming thoughtfully. ]
You know, I never thought about it genetically, but you might be right. I don't think he worries about it that much though, so I haven't either. [ Stop - stare. ]
Sorry, did you say a Goddess tried to destroy your world..?
PERSONA 4 GOLDEN SPOILERS AHEAD!
Well perhaps merge it with another world and turn all of mankind into mindless shadows is more accurate.
[Wait, wait, that probably just makes things more confusing. He should start from the beginning. It's not like they were doing anything and a story might be just the thing to do to pass the time while they are before getting to the gaming.]
It all started thousands of years ago with the Goddess Izunami and her husband Izunagi. He was the God of life, but one day his wife died and he was filled with a terrible grief. He beseeched her spirit to return to the world of the living and be by his side, but she had become a God of death and could not easily do so. She eventually relented and told him that she would need to lock herself away in this temple for three days and nights, and that under no circumstances was he to look inside to see what was happening. For the first two days he did just that, but he heard the tortured cries of his wife and went to peek inside the temple. What he saw terrified him, for his wife had become a monster and had hundreds of evil spirits latched to her distorted form tormenting her. He ran from her and she gave chase until they reached the door of the temple which he sealed her shut inside forever separating the living and the dead.
She said to him, "If you don't let me out of here right now then I will kill a hundred of your creations every day!"
He winced because he knew that he had doomed his relationship with her, and he could no longer look at her the same way even if he did release her. So he said to her, "Then I shall have to birth two hundred every day to match it."
That's the old myth... which apparently had more truth to it than we kids going about our regular high school lives realized, because Izunami? She's real and kept watching mankind through the ages, and came to conclusion that much like her husband mankind could not handle the truth. She saw them creating their own stories, and broadcasting them on televisions which is the origin of the power I have. She saw it as a chance to unite the shadow world of hers with the human world, and gifted certain individuals this power. Are you with me so far?
[He slurpes up a bit of fried onion as he explained the basis of his strange powers.]

Yeah.. I think so. I know I've heard of Izunami and Izunagi but I never knew their full story. That poor man - if only he hadn't gotten curious about what happened -- although to be honest, I probably wouldn't have been able to keep myself from looking either. Not if I heard the person I loved in pain like that.

[No matter which side of the story you gravitated towards it was still a truly tragic tale.]
But I'm getting distracted... when Izunami saw that mankind preferred what she perceived as the lie, the wishes they made in their television screens she concocted her plan, and in doing so she split off a piece of herself that contained much of her mercy, kindness and humanity. She sent this girl into our world without any memories to spy on humanity up close, but in doing so Izunami grew colder and more certain that humanity was doomed.
Ironically that girl became one of my closest friends, and her name is Marie. She had no memories of this plan that was installed in her to turn humanity into shadows, and came to enjoy life alongside everyone in town. It was those memories, and those friendships that helped her turn against the purpose she was designed for, and to help us stop Izunami along with the power she had gifted me. She had originally assumed as a stranger to the town giving me this power could help accelerate her plans, but in the end it was the spark I needed to help stop it.
In the end, when Izunami was defeated all of that power, all of who Izunami was returned to Marie herself... so in a way you could say one of my best friends is a goddess.
[He skipped plenty of details, but he's pretty sure that's a decent summation of all that transpired without going into the nitty gritty... or the murders... or the false flags.]

[ Wow. Somewhere during all of that both she and Happy had paused eating, listening with rapt attention, so when he concluded his story by revealing that Marie was a goddess, Rebecca sat back in amazement, while Happy glanced between the two, speechless. ]
That's really something... it sounds like it was a lot for your friend too. But things are ..better now, I hope..? I guess.. was Marie able to handle all of that power? She'd been living with a human until then, right?

[He can't help but smile as he remembered an exchange between his little cousin Nanako, and Chie.
"Is that the lady who decides the weather?"
"You know usually I'd tell you she predicts it she doesn't decide it, but in her case? I guess she can?"]
I think she handles it primarily by not using the totality of her powers unless she feels it's necessary. The world still runs smoothly without much interference from a goddess, though maybe if another crisis popped up she might feel the need to use her powers, I don't know.
[He hoped Marie would be okay, because he and his friends all loved her. She's fun, silly, loves to write poetry, and tells things like it is.]
If you ever see her she has black hair, blue eyes, black and white striped leggings, and wears a blue hat with a golden pin on it. She's a bit shy, but very friendly when you get to know her. I've seen her once or twice in those games where people can ask questions anonymously and other places, so there's a decent chance you might meet her.

As far as I'm concerned, she's just another girl - and my guess is that's how you and you friends all treat her as well.
