[ The conversation had been going back and forth for a little while now to the point where it may just begin spiraling into circles if neither of them finally just says exactly what's on their minds. Ramza has been in many situations where he's had to make tough, tough decisions, and he's never hesitated as much as he does now. Compared to figuring out some way to tell his dearest friend that not only had he been Ramza's first love, but that those feelings never really went away over all these years, every other choice has been child's play.
Even when Delita says a certain something or other that makes his heart skip with hope that such a revelation wouldn't simply cause problems, he finds the words stuck in his throat, on the tip of his tongue, unvoiced until they just die beneath different speech that only sends them back on the same trip. Despite that, he does still want to help Delita with his problem, which he still feels could absolutely be about anyone else, and it isn't long before he's distracted enough with that thought that some of those unsaid words find life unbidden. ]
The first time I fell in love, I was so young... I never said anything because I feared it would hurt our friendship, which meant everything to me. So I do understand unrequited feelings and the appeal of living with them. But sitting here with you now, I wish I had said something long ago.
[ It's not quite straightforward enough that he immediately realizes he's said something he didn't mean to. But after all, who else did Ramza spend so much of his time with back then? Once he does notice, his breath stops and he watches Delita carefully to see if he's caught it as well.
