Cooking is a daily part of life. You don't always think about it, but even when preparing the same meal, it's never quite the same each time. Cooking can be wonderful and relaxing or completely horrifying. For some it's very personal and for others it's just another part of the day...

1. The way to a person's heart... You want to show your affection and what better way than home cooked food, with your special ingredient...SHITLOADS OF SALT LOVE!

2. Cooking lesson! You would like to be able to cook, but...you have no idea what you're doing. Luckily, you have a knowledgeable friend to show you how!

3. OH GOD HELP ME Oh God Oh God Oh God You have to cook dinner for a party/your in-laws/your visiting family/whoever and it's so much and it's super important but there's no time Oh God. But luckily your wonderful, brilliant and incredibly good looking best friend ever will help you, right?

4. Hnnngh need food so bad. So hungry. Can't move. And you just don't feel like cooking. Oh, the sorrow of an empty stomach! But you're so lucky to know someone that cooks well. Or cooks at all.

5. NO STOP COOKING NOW. Awful. So awful. Eating it doesn't just make you sick, it forces your soul out of your body and into the astral plane. You'd better hope you can get out of this. ...Do you smell fire?

6. REVENGE MEAL! So mad. Just...SO. MAD. You want to show this person how much you hate them and you're going to do it through cooking. You have cooked the most barfatrocious meal you can. They will rue the day they messed with you!

7. Competition! Who's the best cook in this kitchen? It's time to find out, HERE AND NOW! It's an all out cooking battle and the two of you are going to do your best to one up the other! Allez cuisine!

#7, random roll knows kate too well

It is Friday evening, and Kate is pulling a bag of flour from one of Castle's kitchen cabinets. A slight dinner fiasco on Wednesday was what had culminated to the plans for the evening; a show of prowess, a competition of who could cook the most satisfying breakfast foods.

And Kate was in it to win.

"I thought you said Alexis was coming over to judge," she said, pulling a couple bowls out from another cabinet.

"She'll be here. Don't worry."

Castle was keeping all of his ingredients close to him, trying not to show Kate what he was cooking. Didn't she know better than to challenge him to a cooking contest? Apparently not.

"Actually, you probably should worry because I'm about to kick your ass."

[ooc: loool basically.]

As far as Kate was concerned, Castle should know better than to challenge her. She might not have had the amount of time to devote to perfecting her dishes that he did, but she certainly knew she could hold her own when it came down to it.

"Sure, Castle. You talk big but why don't you concentrate on delivering." She shot him a half taunting, half suggestive look.

Castle gave her a look that probably would have frozen fire.

"Uh, I think I deliver very well. I haven't heard any complaints for you about my delivery."

It certainly sent a chill up Kate's spine. If nothing else, there's the promise that they'll both essentially be winners by the end of the night.

"I can give you a list if you want," she bit back. "Sometimes your delivery is a little early."

Castle snorted at that. "Perhaps, but you never walk away unsatisfied, correct?"

They will absolutely both win, because even if Alexis chooses Kate's dish over his, he doesn't plan to hold it against her long. He will gladly swallow his pride for sex with her.

Kate poured some flour into her bowl, measuring it out from memory before she moved towards the refrigerator. She fished the blueberries out of the fruit drawer, popping the container open and pulling one out as she came back towards Castle.

"I'm usually extremely satisfied," she admitted, pausing in front of him and teasing the blueberry in front of his lips. "The question is, are you?"

Castle watched the blueberry as it neared her lips.

"I'm always very satisfied."

He tried to eye the pancakes or whatever she was making before turning around and going back to his omelette.

Kate furrowed her brow, disappointed that he didn't take the bait. So she just popped the blueberry into her own mouth and moved back to her bowl to finish mixing her pancakes.

"I really hope you're not making a smorelette," she teased. "Actually, I am, because that means we should just declare me the winner now and call it a night."

"No, Alexis wasn't a fan of that experiment."

Fortunately he knows exactly what Alexis likes. Although, he doesn't want it to be too obvious because then she'll know which one is his and might pick Kate on purpose. Maybe he should change his food.

"You know," Kate said, raising her eyebrow playfully and resisting the urge to give him a glare. "If you are catering what you make to her tastes, it's technically cheating."

Castle glanced at her over his shoulder.

"You wouldn't know if I was doing that, now would you?"

[themuse]

She smirked. "I know your going to do it, because you are you."

[writeswrongs]

He gave her an innocent look.

"What are you trying to imply?"

[themuse]

She gave him a look that told him she knew exactly how innocent he isn't.

"Pretty sure I'm implying that you are a giant cheating cheater," she grinned.

"Pretty sure you're just feeling insecure about your cooking abilities."

Meanwhile, he was trying to brainstorm what to make instead of an omelette. Belgium waffles?

Kate was making pancakes and she had no doubt whatsoever that her mother's special recipe was going to knock Castle's out of the park. Or, at the least, maybe Alexis would just take her side out of some sense of female solidarity.

"Castle, come on. Of all the things you could claim I'm insecure about, cooking is not one of them."

Castle pulled out the flour and milk in preparation for the waffles.

"Really. How come I do all the cooking when we're together then?"

[themuse]

"Uh, you cook because I'm the one with the job." She started to mix her ingredients together, casting him an amused glance over her shoulder. "You know, the one that involves having to go to work and not the one that involves playing Guitar Hero while I ignore phone calls from my agent."

"Excuse me, writing is a job, ok? Haven't you ever seen me on deadline?"

It's not pretty.

"I have gone out of my way to avoid you on a deadline." She smirked. "And you wouldn't be so panicked about you deadlines if you spent less time playing video games and more time writing, that's all I'm saying."
