Can you believe a slamburger is $12.49? Adjusted for inflation, in my day, the anonymous slab of meat would cost you ...well, a sliver threepence, so God only knows what that is.

[He checks his watch and... was it *really* that late? His uncle will probably interrogate him if he catches him coming home at thjs hour. Guess he may as well wait until he's asleep! Or maybe text him and say he stayed at a friend's?]

(( They say Denny’s isn’t somewhere you go; it’s somewhere you end up. Maybe that’s true for some people, but not Dal. Mostly because the hours he keeps. Denny’s is open 24/7 so he can always pop in to bask in the restaurant’s warmth and usually swing a cup of coffee. They don’t seem to mind when he loiters, buying nothing but that cup of endless coffee. It’s likely the only hot food item he’ll consume all day. Even when he stops by the restaurant near where he lives and the nice server who closes gives him some leftovers she managed to save, well, they’re never hot.

Dal sits far away from the door, but facing it to watch people come and go. He definitely looks like something dragged in from the street. Smells like it, too. He’s got a small sketchbook on the table and a pencil in his left hand, just doodling whatever he sees: the layout of the Denny’s, the servers and the line cook he can see through passthrough, people on the street outside or who walk in. Sometimes faces he remembers from earlier in the night. Most times that’s what he ends up drawing. He’s sure the johns would hate it, but it gives Dal something to do in his limited free time. ))

[ He doesn't even know why he's here. It's not where he'd choose to be if there were other options but it's the middle of the night, it's pouring, and he needed a break from driving. So now he's in a booth nursing a luke warm cup of coffee and looking over a menu wondering if there is anything on there that would be close to edible. ]

[ he'd come in with another man in his company and sat at a booth with his companion for a while. rather boldly — but astutely — he'd fished the wallet out of the other person's coat pocket, pulling out bills before the two of them ordered. before the food arrived, though, he'd leaned in and said quietly something to the other person that caused his company's expression to contort and storm off in a mixture of anger and dread, leaving towa to field both of their orders: a single cup of black coffee for him, along with an entire grand slam that's now been abandoned.

he's not going to eat it, apparently, nor does he seem flustered at all. instead, he lights a cigarette and takes a drag before sipping at the coffee. he's sitting in a non-smoking section, but he either doesn't care or hasn't noticed. ]

( well, it's not necessarily that haruki had intended to watch the scene go down, as it just so happened to occur not too far away from his own seat in the denny's, and of course, if it's only a couple of tables away anyways... he can't really be blamed if his eyes are drawn to a somewhat familiar face.

and he supposes it was kind of interesting, in a way. more importantly, now that it's passed, some of that smoke is wafting its way over to where he's sitting, and he crinkles his nose at the acrid scent. giving it a moment or so, it isn't long before haruki gets up, making his way over to towa's table and inviting himself to sit down across from the other, though on the whole looking rather impassive about the whole thing. )

You know, this isn't the smoking section, Towa-kun.

[ Behold a beat-up man in his thirties, covered in plasters (a few bleeding through)! He's clearly not letting the fact he's had his ass kicked keep him down, as he shovels waffles in his big mouth. He's also pouring half a can of beer into his milkshake, and being the nice guy he is, he shakes the can and tilts it towards someone else's drink too. ]

B) 🦖 Kaiju

[ It happens in an instant. A long, worm-like creature shooting like a bullet into someone's plate, sucking the contents into its lamprey maw, then zipping right back where it came from. Following the motion will reveal it's no worm at all- but a hideous tongue, of a towering, glowing humanoid reptile.

Kafka is too embarrassed to speak, and the shock of the involuntary action has his expression blankly unreadable. ]

[Seated in the booth is a giant, or so he probably looks to Wally - almost eight feet tall and round all over, with a cartoonish appearance that could very well be what drew Wally over in the first place. He looks down when he hears the commotion and immediately his mouth stretches into a broad, toothy smile.]

Well hey there, little man! You need a boost? [If there are no objections, he'll grab Wally under his armpits and lift him into the seat just like he would a toddler.] Alley-oop!

[Having a puppet join him is rather strange, but Taishiro's seen stranger in his days as a pro hero. Quirks seem to get more outlandish with every passing generation, after all. Whatever his story is, he's adorable and seems to be a bit lost.]
