[ The morning, so far, is promising a great day. The sky is clear, but the fresh breeze assures that the sun will not become sweltering at a later hour; the street looks clean, the trees are slightly damp with dew, and the birds currently chirping don't seem to be the tone deaf kind that was inhabiting the shrubbery yesterday. ]

[ That is, of course, until Levi has almost finished opening up his shop and finally pulls up the blinds. ]

[ His favorite (read: not) face is, in fact, practically pressed to the glass on the other side, like the world's shittiest jump scare. It grins, thumps (an unquestionably dirty) hand on the glass and points toward the door with unsettling, almost manic excitement. ]

[ Whatever he's saying may not be heard properly through the closed windows, but it's clear enough that it's something like, Yo runt, hurry up and let me in! ]

[ Fuck. Levi visibly recoils back from the face, staring at it in hard disbelief. Could there be a more disgusting, unwelcome sight, first thing in the morning? Absolutely fucking not. He would have much rather dealt with literal shit smeared over his windows than the pathetic excuse for a man currently plastered on them.

His expression turns withering on the other side of the glass, nose wrinkling in disgust at the smear of grime left behind by Kenny's hand. He looks like hell, but that's not new.

Levi knows ignoring him will do no good - fuck all knows how long he's been out there already, and it's nearly time to open. If he doesn't deal with him, the ghoul of a man will scare away his customers, and the last thing he wants is anyone associating the shop he and his mother had worked hard to build with him.

Still, he doesn't immediately jump to open the door, going about a handful of other things for a few minutes to let the man just fucking stew for a bit. Finally, he goes to undo the lock, but leaves the chain attached as he opens the door a crack. A chain definitely won't stop Kenny if he's feeling determined and violent enough, but Levi doesn't have to make it easy for him.

He levels the meanest scowl he can muster at his uncle through the opening. It's been five years since the man had all but disappeared out of their lives, and good fucking riddance. Of course he just had to come back. ]

[ The brat's reaction is absolutely hilarious, though Kenny carefully schools his expression into friendliness (or what passes for friendly in his case, which is frankly rather unnerving). The fact that he also "accidentally" shoves his foot in as soon as the door opens a smidgeon probably suggests he's not planning to leave just because of a cold welcome though. ]

[ Also, excuse, Levi's mother loves him! Mostly! Except for his ideas of childrearing, probably. But hey! At least he was there to help her with it when it mattered! Right? Right. A+++ fucking job, if he does say so himself. Look at the runt's little scowl, bet nobody around here messes with him, too bad he didn't inherit Kenny's sense of humor as well. Oh well, nobody is perfect. ]

[ Levi braces the door, gritting his teeth. He could probably hold his own against his uncle if needed, but he's also not willing to trash the shop for it, either, and Kenny probably knows that. Fucker. ]

We're fine, thanks for asking, now get lost.

[ He tries to shove the door closed, but it doesn't budge with Kenny's foot in the way.

In truth they're decidedly not quite fine; his mother's health has declined badly in the last couple years, frequently falling ill with recurrent lung infections that have her in bed sometimes for weeks. It's why she's not down here with him now, which is just as well. Levi tries to keep his voice low so that she won't hear. Kuchel has never been able to stand up to her brother. ]

[ Maybe he could. Maybe he couldn't. Kenny certainly didn't hold back teaching him age-inappropriate street fighting moves, but then, he was still such a tiny thing... ]

[ More importantly, though, he's not keen on damaging Kuchel's livelihood. He might if he has to, but he'd rather not. So really, Levi could afford to be nicer. Kenny clicks his tongue disapprovingly. ]

[ Who taught the little shit manners? On the other hand, hold that thought... ]

C'mon, at least give your favorite uncle a hug! [ Said in that very particular whiny tone only shitty adults can manage. He even opens his arms a little to that end, nonetheless, his foot is still firmly lodged in the doorway to prevent any slamming shut in his face action. ] What's the rush? Do ya need to take a huge shit or somethin', is that why yer face is all scrunched up like that?

[ Levi snarls it through the opening. Although Kenny is taking up much of his viewpoint from there, past him, the handful of people out on the street are starting to stare, and it'll just get busier and busier even over the next ten minutes.

Shit.

Mentally, he checks himself: a pair of shears in his apron pocket, a switchblade strapped to the small of his back, and another small knife sheathed at his ankle. It's not a dangerous neighborhood by far, but some habits die hard. And while Kenny hasn't necessarily been life-threateningly violent towards them, he's unpredictable, and Levi doesn't know what sort of shit or people he's been stirring up these days.

He curses under his breath.]

...fine. Move your stinking shitty foot so I can take off the chain.

[ He could just as easily bolt the door again, but it's your gamble, Kenny. ]

[ He's aware there's a scene brewing and that he's making it worse, and that's honestly what he's betting on. His nephew may have little love for him but he loves this cute little business of his, there's no way he's going to let their dirty laundry get aired in front of potential customers. [ Kenny smiles chipperly through the crack in the door, pulling his coat to the side just enough for Levi to catch a glimpse of the very real gun he's absolutely carrying on him, and winks, his voice lowering momentarily. ]
