it's a cold day...wherever you are. brrrrr. you are outside, walking around (maybe holiday shopping, or portal jumping, or maybe you clicked a weird pen or phone booth button and landed here. whatever the case, you are now outside a quaint little cafe in New York, right by Central Park, on snowy, December morning. did I mention that it's cold? you walk into the cafe and immediately feel the warmth of the room. there's a fireplace on each side of the little shop, which helps un-nip the frost on your nose. the baristas at the counter great you kindly, and tell you to have a seat and they will send over one of their girls to take your order.

stay a while?

instructions:
1. make a comment (blank or otherwise) with your character's name and canon in the subject. they have entered the cafe. they can leave or stay or even sit down and read a book if they have one on hand. whatever your preference.
2. people respond with their characters meeting others inside the cafe. you can do whatever you want, except fight. oh, arguing is allowed, but sword fights? nope.

[He didn’t intentionally arrive at this location, so he’s cautious!]

[ phi's not used to being called ma'am, but once it becomes apparent that he's addressing her, she shrugs. ]

Once or twice. The coffee's not bad, so I'll stop by if I'm in the area.

Oh, then, it’s a normal coffee shop after all?

[Probably shouldn’t have said that out-loud, but, oh, well!]

D’ya recommend anything?

Were you expecting something else?

[ she raises her eyebrow, but ultimately shrugs it off. ]

I tend to just get a black coffee and add cream after. I haven't tried any of their specialty drinks.

[Koujaku actually carries a literal sword but he's willing to act normal.]

( He'd better act normal. Noiz would love nothing more than to kick him out, not that he has that kind of authority. He's just working here — it's not like he owns the place. Rhyme pays enough, but it's worth it to keep some kind of front to curb suspicions.

Approaching Koujaku's table in his stiff, classic 'uniform', Noiz frowns more than usual. )

( Great customer service. It's a wonder he hasn't been fired yet. )

[Because Koujaku isn't normal, the sword is there, propped up between his table and the wall of the cafe. He's not thinking about it, though, even as he glances up and barks out a laugh. For a second, it seems like Koujaku is lost for words, and can't even get out a real insult.]

Aw, lose a bet, little guy?

[His tone's a little patronizing— maybe not just a little. He sneers:]

Being a criminal isn't good enough for ya?

( His face is impassive for the most part since letting Koujaku get an obvious rise out of him would be too easy. It's what this grandpa wants: to get under his skin. Keeping himself blank and uninterested is the best way to navigate this. )

What does an old man who plays tag for a fun know about criminality?

( Noiz is in a dress, so everything he says loses at least half of its credibility. He looks away. )

...If you're not going to order, stop wasting my time.

[Koujaku's eyebrow twitches— it's not like he can admit to any of his actual criminal ties right here. Or like he would. He ends up staring at Noiz for a moment too long, until he realizes it might look like he's into any of that (or Noiz, really), before his eyes snap down to the menu again.]

Uhhh ...

[Another long moment. Caffeine was not his usual vice, he wasn't even sure how he ended up in this particular cafe.]

An Americano?

( Why is Koujaku here? Noiz immediately thinks that it's somehow intentional. An old man with nothing better to do, it makes sense that, had he learned Noiz was working here, he'd come and see for himself to humiliate him. If not for Noiz, then maybe he came seeking out the various other maidboys in cat ears—an addition that Noiz pointedly refused to wear [it's bunny ears or nothing at all, thank you].

With that long stare, Noiz refuses to fold. He can handle something like a grandpa wandering into his shop. )

Are you sure your heart can handle something like that?

( It's a lot of caffeine, and Koujaku is at least 20, which means he's practically on his deathbed. )

[In all honesty, one of his Benishigure lackeys probably sent him here as a prank. It wasn't exactly Koujaku's style, anyways. But he had to play it straight-ish now that he was here.

He's trying really hard to hold in his reaction, just so he doesn't get kicked out, but he just ends up reaching for his wallet so he can shove some cash at Noiz and get him out of his way. It's way more than the stated amount and way more than Koujaku can probably afford to spend, but...]

Just give me the fucking coffee, kid.

( If Noiz cared one ounce less about this job, he'd be sure to spill a hot tea all over the table as he's making his rounds, or maybe he'd pour syrup directly onto that precious sword of his. He doesn't like Koujaku or the things he stands for. He's a geezer who won't let go of the past. Rib is dead. Rhyme is the future.

He takes off without incident, though. He leaves Koujaku to his peace, and to admire the other maids and men as they do their work throughout the cafe. Noiz sticks out like a sore thumb with his plethora of piercings and standoffish personality, but he has a fair number of customers asking for him for that exact reason.

When he returns, he has a coffee in hand with a little bunny drawn in whipped cream decorating the top. This time, he slides into the seat across from Koujaku rather than setting out to do his tasks. Lunch break, maybe. Or maybe he's risking slacking off on the clock to give some old man hell. )

Pervert.

( A good start. After all, Koujaku must be here to see sexy young things bearing their thighs, right? )

[The atmosphere here is very peaceful, although he had no idea how he wound up in such a western looking establishment, so he remained on guard for any other anomalies and that… sure is a well-dressed-looking man with ox horns. It’s actually kind of funny, in a jarring way, because it reminded him of someone (no match in appearance, just, the concept.)]

… uh. Don’t suppose any’a this is your doing?

[… if the whole place was an illusion, it’d probably be pulled off by someone who can transform well enough to hide those horns, though. So he isn’t too wary of Eiji, he’s just the oddest sight here!]

He's sitting near the window, with oolong tea and a chocolate chip cookie on a plate. The cookie's nearly as big as his head.]

[He wasn’t going to order anything here, because he was suspicious of the place, but c’mon, giant cookie.]

[There's a dent in the edge of it, like someone's snapped off a piece and eaten it. Jim smiles, gesturing.]

It's good. Just the right ratio of cookie to chocolate. You want to try before you buy?

[He’s touched! So touched, he forgets his wariness about the unfamiliar establishment and eagerly takes a seat.]

[Jim grins, breaking off a piece that's about the length of his thumb.]
