Crowley was in a nightclub somewhere, because the alcohol was flowing and the music loud enough to drown out his thoughts, and for now that was all he asked. Especially at night. Days were easier, he could sleep through those or keep himself occupied. Nights were when the silences shouted at him.

He wasn't really paying attention to the music or his surroundings, or anything but his drink to be honest, when the lights stopped flashing quite so bright and fast, and the music became something less frenetic. Still loud, enough that casual conversation wasn't an option, but something smoother, more wistful. Slower.

He knew what he'd see before he turned around in his seat. He knew how much it would hurt.

He turned anyway.

[ Roy hated galas. He only ever went to them because they were part of the job, especially now he was AFC Richmond's new manager, and Rebecca would probably rip his balls off if he didn't show his face. At least this one didn't involve auctioning the lads off this time, since Rebecca had decided she didn't want to do that anymore because it was 2023 (about fucking time).

He's brought Clara as his date, their first public event together. Predictably Roy is dressed in black and Clara looks so gorgeous, he hasn't been able to take his eyes off all her night, and nearly everyone from the club has given up even trying to get his attention. He knows he's going to get shit tomorrow from everyone about how smitten he is with Clara, but fuck it. He's happy.

There's a band playing a slow song, and with his arm perched along the back of Clara's chair, he leans his mouth next to her ear. ]
