Catch up with old friends, brave new teachers, fight your way through the sea of students, and hope you're in the right classroom. Oh, you're the new kid. Well, that's okay as long as you've got more than enough summer vacation anecdotes to fill ten pages of Times New Roman size 12, single-spaced.

2. first period

You're gonna be late! Or are you already there? Class hasn't started just yet, so chat it up or copy your classmate's homework before the teacher gets here.

3. lesson proper

You're probably diligently taking notes, looking out the window daydreaming or reciting in class, much to your teacher's delight - or dismay. Try not to be too obvious when counting down the minutes and pass that note as discreetly as possible.

4. faculty

Have a bone to pick with your terror math teacher. A crush on the cute chemistry teacher? There might be something you want to ask your homeroom teacher about. In any case, you plan on seeing a faculty member today. Or maybe they plan on seeing you!

5. lunch break

Man, you are starving. Hopefully, today's menu has something good. If the crowded cafeteria's not your thing, try the rooftop.

6. hooky

One of you is skipping class. You should try talking them out of it if that's your thing.

7. detention

What on earth did you do to get this? Oh well. Detention can't be that bad when you've got all these very nice, approachable model students around to talk to.

Baseball, basketball, dodgeball - no matter the sport, just remember: you are the star. It's you. At least, you hope it is.

Sewing! Cooking! ... Try not to burn the school down!

Meng Yao was new to this fancy Boarding School in Gusu. He was certainly too poor to be here, but his mother had passed and he was assaulted after trying to reach his father for child support, only to meet him in court. After a ton of litigation and one DNA test later, his father shipped him off here as fast as he could.

He was not going to let that man ruin the chance at a good education. So what if his Legitamate half-brother and mulish cousin also went to school here? He hoped that he at least had a nice roommate. He was led to his new room by an older student, she looked rather serious and that was fine by him. He was serious as well.

He adjusted his broken eyeglass frames and stepped inside with his duct-taped suitcase and a trash bag full of his sparse belonging.

He looked over to the other side and nervously waved at his new roommate.

"Hello I'm Meng Yao. I will be your roommate this year."

Nie Huaisang looks up from the pornographic magazine he'd been reading.

He's been sprawled out on his bed since the moment classes ended for the day, needing some time to himself to recharge. He's also ignoring the pile of math homework and extra credit assignments his teacher had tried given him to try and pull his grade up. The arrival of a new roommate gives him even more of an excuse to continue ignoring it.

"Oh, hey! I heard you were coming here! I haven't had a roommate in forever... It's nice to meet you."

Of course, he knows who Meng Yao is. Everyone knows who Meng Yao is. The whole story with him and his father had made the local celebrity gossip pages and spread through the school like wildfire. It was the most interesting news to hit this school in a while so Nie Huaisang had gobbled up the scandal like it was candy.

Meng Yao was well aware of the gossip about him. He could feel the stares that all the other students were giving him. The whispers behind his back. The upperclassman has already left without saying anything and he was alone with his new roommate. At least this one seemed friendly.

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well." He put his suitcase down on the bed and adjusted his glasses.

"Please let me know if there are any rules that I need to follow while in here I would love to make this as peaceful of an experience as I can."

While Jiang Yanli isn't exactly a poor student she's not one of the shining stars either. That is, except for one class, that is - home economics. Today's assigment is an easy one, for her, at least, but the limited kitchen space available in the classroom requires students to partner up.

She sits on a stool at the counter, reading over the recipe and mentally adjusting the ingredients in her hand to make the disk truly a smashing success. The teacher gives them the blandest recipes to work with; she can't help but take initiative to spruce them up a little. It tends to work well for her. The teacher likes her as been down to give her bonus points for creativity on her grades.

"Are you ready to start?" she asks, turning to the underclassman she's working with today. She doesn't know him well but she's seen him hanging around her little brother before.

Home ec had seemed like a safe choice, not that his brother approved, but that was par for the course. And he wasn't the worst student, at least. That position had been well and truly occupied by Wei-xiong. Which was why he'd been encouraged to switch classes.

"Uh, yeah."Huaisang responded, pulling himself out of his thoughts after he'd realized she'd said something. At least he'd be able to make a good grade, even if he wasn't top of the class with Yanli helping. He'd heard enough raving over her cooking anyway.

"I'll just...follow your lead."

Mianmian had helped with the planning stage which was honestly one of the only reasons he'd managed not to bail on this whole situation. Not that he could even if he wanted to, but the fact was, he was nervous as hell, even knowing it shouldn't go badly. After all, they'd talked about plans before.

And he'd had gifts delivered to her house before the ceremony, flowers and some hair acessories Mianmian had helped him pick out. But after the actual graduation ceremony, he'd offered to drive her to the banquet. But he'd taken a detour to a park they both favored, pulling into the lot.

"Walk with me?"

"All right. It looks like teacher already prepared the marinade for the class to save us time but we'll have to chop the vegetables ourselves. Could you get the cutting board,
four small bowls, and a knife out, please?"

It's a little awkward. She's not used to taking the lead in anything but the younger boy seems a bit preoccupied and this is her area of expertise. She leaves the stredded pork and marinade in the fridge and starts getting out the vegetables for chopping.

"You're friends wih A-Xian and A-Cheng, aren't you?" she asks, placing each one on the counter.

It's simple enough to retrieve the requested items and he busies himself with that for a few minutes while she's organizing the vegetables. "Ah, yeah. they're pretty much my only friends, honestly."

Sort of anyway. Most people don't pay him any attention since he's not one of the popular kids and his older brother's legacy is still kind of a thing.

Unfortunately, most of the classes have filled up for a middle-of-the-year transfer student like Meng Yao. But honestly, he was happy to be in Home Ec. It reminded him of all the cooking he did when it was cold out and he wanted to prepare a nice warm meal for his mother. The memory was bittersweet but he didn't mind it.

It was a small connection he could have. Still, he ignored the jeers of his male classmates as he made his way into the large classroom. He set his things down and began to prepare his workstation, his face burning bright red as one boy implied that he must be as slutty as his whore mother while making lewd gestures at him.

It was best to ignore him. People were cruel and the visibility of his court case didn't help matters. Nor did the fame of his mother in the industry. His hands trembled and absentmindedly he spilled some boiling hot water on his hand.\

"Aish!" he cried out, startled, only to hear a chorus of laughter out the door.
