"Um, maybe?" He gave her a look, half shrugging. "Do you want to talk?"

"About what?" She was almost afraid that he'd start up and then it would go right back into his issues with Derek.

"Maybe... getting together again. Maybe to a movie?" He looked down at his hand as he fidgeted with his pants on one leg.

She knew not to tell him not to talk about Derek.

"I can't even think of what's out right now," Erica replied. She hadn't looked at the current releases in a few months.

"We can pick something when we get there. There has to be something that you'd want to watch." And if not, then maybe they'd find something else to do. Something that involved him hanging around her.

She thought about it for a bit, before glancing to him, "When would you want to do this?"

Was that a yes? "Uh... when's good for you?" Because hey, he wasn't going to screw it up by picking the wrong day.

She had to think about that. A hand moved up to rub at her jaw, then against the side of her face as she thought it over.

"Tuesday," she figured that was when Boyd had off from work, so he could make sure Derek had someone to run the course.

"Tuesday's good. I can do Tuesday. You want me to pick you up?" He had from now until Tuesday to figure out what to wear and if that even mattered.

She thought it over and then nodded, "Yeah, you can pick me up."

Erica tried to think of a time, but she realized it'd depend on if they went to see a movie or not. "If you figure out when you want to come over, just let me know."

"Great!" No, he wasn't being a bit over enthusiastic about this. Not at all. "I'll text you and come pick you up in enough time that we can go see what's showing first, okay?"

"Yeah, it's okay," she replied easily. She moved to unbuckle her seat belt.

"So, Tuesday, then."

"Yeah, Tuesday."

What was he supposed to do? Shake her hand? Lean in for a kiss?

No, leaning in for a kiss would get him a smack. He just sat there instead, watching her. "I'll see you then."

Yes, just sit there. She'll take her cake and get out of the Jeep and then head toward her house. She'll stop at the door, just watching him watch her. Then she's inside and hoping he's not going to just stay there.

No, Erica. He's not going to creep outside your house. He's just being a gentleman and making sure she gets inside okay. Don't judge him for having a chivalrous father.

Once she's inside, he starts the jeep back up and heads for home, already planning things to do on their date.

Whoops. Better not call it that to her face.
