[The law in the city was made clear at the gate; magic was forbidden within the walls. A simple enough thing to agree to, but what wasn't said about this law was that spellcasters who entered the city never seemed to come back out. Even if nothing was done, the secret police here had a way of knowing the signs of someone who carried magic, and had one order; to get rid of them.

This is why it's generally a bad idea to split the party; nobody had come back to the meeting place at the end of the evening...were they just running late? Regardless, unfortunately, this left Dorian alone and vulnerable in the creepy city where people seemed to avoid looking anyone in the eye. The ultimate result: nobody around to witness or offer aid when the strike comes.

Dorian may sense the briefest second of movement behind him before darkness suddenly overtakes his vision, a soft ring of cloth thrust over his eyes with uncanny precision. When he opens his mouth to interject, something dense and thick is shoved hard into it, a hand cupping his jaw and lips to hold it in place as another hand wrangles his arms into a pin. His body is yanked hard backwards, in the direction of what he would last have known was a wall - perhaps there had been a secret door there he had been disappeared into. Whatever the case, he was now in a much smaller space, alone with his unseen kidnapper, blindfolded, in the process of being gagged, and a rattling of chains in this smaller room foreshadowed the next step.]
