[For all the horrors she's seen during the daylight, it is the nighttime that scares Jill the most. There's such little control one has when asleep, left to the mercy of the subconscious and what it feels up to showing. Tonight, it's decided to show its entire hand of cards, the full deck, plus more to Jill. Why certain nights are worse than others, she will never know. There is no one to ask for a reason why she has to relive years of a life better forgotten, better pushed back in favor of living properly for the sake of others. Yet the nightmares continue.

The images mock her, the visions of the dead men and women, adults and children alike, laughing at her pain and guilt for killing them, for not doing enough to save them, as if a monster should feel anything close to a human's conscience. And isn't that what she is in these dreams again? A monster, a sinner, an abomination so horrifying that she needs to be reminded every so often with visions and almost too realistic screams of people who died under spikes of ice that her hands will never be clean enough for them. No matter how many attempts at setting things right, the nightmares will always come unbidden to taunt her.

She can't stay in bed. Her normally cool body feels too hot and everything is sticking to clammy skin, bedlinens and all. It feels like an unwelcome space, a space better suited for someone not as rotten as her as the. Jill can't stand being here much longer in area still rife with atrocious memories, so she rises to her feet and steps out into the hall, into the night air of the Hideaway.

It doesn't help much as she hoped it would. Her knees feel like water causing her to slump down on the closest set of stairs in the Hideaway, finding a small measure of control in a body that feels like betraying her every step of the way. It is here that she rests, face in her hands, wondering just how one clears their conscience enough to sleep well anymore.]
