Kiss of the Vampire

Vampires tend to have a lot of sex appeal. It may be because evil is sexy for some, but not all vampires are evil, so maybe it's because they're bad boys or sultry femme fatales. Maybe people just figure hundreds of years of practice at love making makes vampires really, really good at it. On the other hand, the bloodsucking may be a great fetish source, something about a quick sting of pain followed by pleasure.

When a vampire is hungry and isn't quite so decent or hard up as to lower himself to only buying blood at the butcher's or trapping and draining small animals instead, their dietary supplement of preference is human blood. However, vampires can make the experience of being a drink box not just bearable, but pleasurable for the donor.

4. Romantic - Is it worse to be the prey of a vampire - or their lover? At least with the latter, they'll try to treat you gently.

6. Dangerous - This is no kitten you're playing with. Remember, your life hangs in the balance if they sink their fangs too far...

Ouija's very busy in these modern nights. Or at least good at looking busy. Skyping to Primogen meetings while working their busy hands across counterfeit shabti, or evaluating paintings while ghouls read their nightly duties and reminded them, brain-like-a-sieve, of promised obligations.

But there was one thing they never forget, no matter how busy they are, and that's to make time for Birdie's sets. Nor do they particularly bother to be conspicuous in the crowd. It isn't something she owes them - from what Ouija's heard, she's as popular as Daughters often are to mortals, and she certainly doesn't need the empty seat filled.

It's just something they look forward to. It isn't business for them, though it isn't strictly always pleasure, either? At least not in the same way that having her company feels.

They are now becoming an expert on Phil Ochs' discography.

She does tend to play a lot of Ochs, doesn't she?

After the long nightmare of Denver, she's grateful to be here. Some anonymous dive bar off the Strip, full of smoke and chatter and the smell of spilled beer, singing exactly what she wants to every night. The first few months in Vegas, she'd lingered in the Wadjet, old paranoia kept tight, but these nights she's just as busy. Stages and Anarchs and meetings of her own.

Ouija has played no small part in all of it. She notices them in the middle of You Can't Get Stoned Enough, and smiles through the rest of her set, even through the notes that get pitchy.

When she's done, she slips off stage so the next act can go on and slips up behind them. Birdie doesn't mark distinctions between the different pleasures of Ouija's company -- close, distant, comforting, exciting -- and prefers instead to just enjoy them as they come. "You should tell me when you're coming in, you've probably heard that set a hundred times by now."
