ah yes, the maid café: a cosplay restaurant where servers pose in frilly outfits, taking photos with customers they call "master."
though traditionally associated with Akihabara, a district of Tokyo known for catering to otaku, these cafés have grown in popularity and started springing up in other areas, too. there are all sorts of variants, from "neko cafés" where the maids wear cat ears, to "tsundere cafés" where maids act cold and distant towards customers (before warming up to them later).

and just in case you thought that maid cafés only exist to cater to straight men, don't worry: there are versions catering to every possible taste and demographic. from butler cafés, where handsome men treat female clientele like princesses, to maid cafés with crossdressing male servers and dansou cafés with handsome women, there's a cosplay restaurant out there for everyone.

two; traditional butler café. what better way to unwind after work than to have handsome men serve you tea and treat you like a princess?

three; crossdressing café. this isn't your typical maid/butler café. it might look like it from the outside, but the servers are all either attractive men who look great in skirts, or handsome, chivalrous women who can rock menswear.

four; neko café. cat ears, tails, and sentences that end in "meow." some people might find it weird, but others will be into it.

five; tsundere café. you don't know why, but your server really, really doesn't seem to like you. did you do something wrong? nope - it's all part of the act.

six; horror café. you've heard of regular maids, now get ready for blood-spattered zombie maids. vampires, ghouls, other creatures of the night: at this cosplay café, every day is Halloween.

seven; other. wanna invent your own cosplay café? go for it. ninjas, werewolves, samurai, train attendants, Alice in Wonderland or Pokémon theming - there are all sorts of possibilities.
