The (possibly AU) Incest Meme

Incest is, despite its taboo nature in most societies, actually a pretty popular convention in both romantic fiction and works of a more erotic bent, in everything from period or fantasy pieces to series taking place in places like modern day Japan. Still, the most common configuration in these fictions are the pairing of siblings. Perhaps this is because of the usual lack of age difference and power dynamic that exists in child/adult relative pairings, though this is not always the case. Because of this, a sexual or romantic relationship between siblings can almost seem, well, romantic in the right light. Of course, more often than not, there's a dark side under the veneer of forbidden love.

This meme is for those who would like to play out that, either the darkness or the light - or both.

HOW TO PLAY

-Comment with your character and preferences. Be sure to mention any hard lines you have.
-Comment around to others. PLEASE NOTE THAT IN ORDER TO FACILITATE CROSS-CANON TAGGING, THIS MEME WILL BE CONSIDERED AN AU FAIR GAME ZONE. Feel free to comment in with characters who do not canonically have siblings or comment to people from other fandoms.

PROMPTS

1. Feeling Strange: You've known this person your entire life, yet lately you've been feeling...different about them. These feelings aren't exactly familial, either.
2. Not as Normal Families: Whatever the specifics of the case may be, your childhood was not the norm, and thus the two of you have grown close that way.
3. Raised Apart: Scientists believe that when siblings are raised together under normal circumstances, they will not find each other sexually attractive; however, if they are reared apart, they may be highly attracted to each other when they meet as adults.
4. Only Kin by Name: Psuedo-incest between step siblings or adopted siblings is not quite as taboo, but you could still be looked down upon for harboring those desires for someone who is a member of your family by one way or another.
5. Defender: One of you is older and has always looked after the other, meaning that something has grown between you that is thicker than any blood.
6. Guilty: You feel terrible for these longings toward your own flesh and blood, and you do your best to stop them. But can you choose who you want to be with? And how disciplined are you when it's someone you care for in other ways?
7. Dysfunctional: You don't have a good relationship as siblings, yet your relationship as lovers is great.

23. Not Really Related After All: Perhaps the most cliche of tropes, though it's often used to "justify" incest. Turns out the two of you aren't really siblings! Now, you can pursue a relationship freely.
24. Part of the Same Whole: You're meant to be together, you firmly believe it.
25. Sick and Twisted: The fact that you two are siblings actually is a kink/fetish for you. You get off to all of this.

Claire had always known she's different, growing up in Asgard, but she'd never felt like an outsider. Thor had seen to that, he'd taken her in and assured her that she belonged. He's always been like a brother to her, and even more than that. A best friend.

There's no one she trusts more, no one she'd rather spend time with. Sure, there have been a couple guys showing interest, but she's been a little shy about letting anyone try to romance her. She isn't sure she's ready, but she can't really figure out why.

After the latest awkward attempt at being courted, she goes in search of Thor. At least none of them approach her when they're together. She lights up when she finally finds finds him. "There you are! I've been looking all over," Claire giggles, stopping as she approaches, hands on her hips. "Fancy getting away for a little while?"

From the moment Thor met Claire, he has made it one of his life missions (of which he has many) to protect her. Her differences didn't change anything, except for the fact that he's probably particularly protective of her.

Initially, it was because he considered her to be under his care (not his father's, obviously), then she became part of his family and gradually, his love for her began to intensify beyond his understanding. It feels as deep as familial love, but it's intense and he finds himself thinking about her, watching her and yearning.

And every day, every little touch gets closer to something beyond familial.

As Claire comes into her own and courtships begin, Thor finds himself becoming extremely protective. He's extremely discerning about who he lets near her and even then, he tries to keep a watchful eye. It's only in recent days that he's pulled back and given her space, and it's only because of a stern warning.

Despite this, when he sees her he can't help but light up. Immediately, he strides toward her and his large hands rest on her waist and hoist her up into half a spin and an embrace.

"Why would you be looking for me?" He asks slyly, smiling up at her and lowering her down. His hand lingers, brushing against her chin.

"Aren't you supposed to be getting wooed?"

It's a familiar routine now, Thor picking her up as a way of greeting, and it's one that she rather likes. She flings her arms around his neck to hug him as he spins her, only letting go once her feet are on the ground once more. Maybe it's more affectionate than is strictly necessary with someone who's essentially a brother to her, but it's something she finds herself looking forward to. Though she can't help but sigh a little at the question.

"Ugh, don't remind me," Claire whines, rolling her eyes. Stepping closer, she puts her hands on his forearms, looking up at him almost pleadingly. "Save me, I beg you. I've had enough of being wooed for today. One attempt was one too many."

Her would-be suitors are growing increasingly insistent the more she tries to let them down gently. Fortunately, she's never been afraid to speak her mind. Though by now, she's growing weary of the hassle.

"No one tries when I'm with you." Is that why she's been sneaking off to spend time with him more than ever lately? Absolutely. Is it the only reason? Well, she couldn't say. She's aware that he's been keeping some distance lately, and she's taking every opportunity to close that distance.

He's her comfort and safety, the one person she can trust with absolutely anything. Whatever troubles she has, he's the one she can go to, no matter what. His big hugs and even the smallest touches, like the way his hand lingers at her jaw, always calm her down and cheer her up.

Claire's hands slip down to take a hold of each of his. Always any excuse to touch him, even if she's not consciously aware she's doing it. "Can we just go anywhere? Please?"

Thor scoffs when Claire rolls her eyes, even if he's secretly a little pleased that the process seems tedious. He should be hoping she finds a good match, but he much prefers it when she comes back to him.

"I wonder why that is." He muses, with a coy look that suggests he knows damn well. It's probably already an intimidating situation, courting the semi-adopted daughter of the King of Asgard. Thor absolutely doesn't make it easy. Rather the opposite.

"We can go anywhere you like." He extends his arm for her to hook onto if she pleases. "Do you want to escape somewhere in particular? Or should we find our place in the forest?"

She always seems to come back to Thor. In fact, she'd prefer if she didn't have to leave his side at all. Unfortunately even as an adoptive daughter, it seems to be expected of her to find a match. The one time she'd prefer to keep being seen as an outsider, then none of them would want her. Or maybe they want her because she's different.

There's no hesitation as Claire slips her arm through his, leaning in a touch closer. It's a stark difference to how she behaves with her potential suitors; her body language with them is completely closed off and she avoids touching them if at all possible, whereas with Thor she craves the contact. Probably just because he's familiar, she tells herself.

"Our spot," she decides immediately. It's barely a question he needs to ask. "No one'll find us there, and if they do you can beat them up."

[ This is hardly the first time Dirk's shown up bleeding. The singed edges are new, but the scrapes and scratches and hastily bandaged gut wound aren't. That's just about par for the course with his line of work. Phenomenal cosmic powers, shitty eldritch horror monsters trying to cut you into mincemeat on the regular to go with them. And he doesn't even get a paycheck. He'd complain to the guy in charge, except technically, that's him.

You know, a prince. Supposed to be the head honcho, giving out the orders, sending other people out to get stuck like a pig by some rot-infected former Spot the dog. Except he's a prince without his blah blah blah eternally devoted knight, aka the poor sucker assigned at birth to be his whipping boy, so hey, good news for the little guy, he's doing his own dirty work. The dirty work that involves mutated canines sprouting a newfound penchant for spitting acid-fire.

So yeah. Surprise upgrade to the monsters, brand new injury to take care of after the fight. Dirk staggers inside the safe house, arm over his stomach, trailing blood and ash and a general air of being ticked the fuck off. He drops his backpack to the ground with a heavy clunk, ignoring the metallic rattle. Sheds his coat — barely more than some ragged shreds at this point — and kicks off his boots.

Then he looks up at freezes. Just stock still in place, only the soft sound of blood dripping onto the hardwood floor.

It's not the first time Dirk's shown up at one of the safe houses bleeding, but it sure as fuck is the first time he's shown up and there's someone else there.

Finally, he unsticks his limbs enough to stand a little straighter. Hide what garbage fucking shape he's in from the guy stretched out across the couch, playing with his phone. ]

Didn't realize the place was already occupied. [ Carefully — definitely because he doesn't know if this is a friend or someone waiting to finish him off and not because every little movement is screaming agony — he reaches for his bag. And the sheathed sword poking out of it. ] Usually a guy can show up at his secret bolt hole and reasonably expect it to still be a secret, but fuck me, ain't it just that kinda night.
