Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

1. Comment with your character, series, preferences, etc in the subject.

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

2. HUMIDITY ☂ It’s that time of the year again when the humidity rises and the rain has two options: make it worse or make it go away. Good luck getting the latter.

3. GRAY RAIN OF DEPRESSION ☂ We all know this one. Stuck in the middle of no where, or right after an argument, or something that leads to angst, the rain decides to express someone’s feelings in a physical form, serious or over the top.

4. QUIET MORNING ☂ Nothing to do, nowhere to be… sometimes the rain is a welcomed addition to a quiet day. Gives you an excuse to stay in, curl up in a warm blanket and a book, maybe a loved one or a cup of hot chocolate. With sprinkles.

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

[It's rare for a Tradeline ship to visit an isolationist planet. Contradictory, isn't it? They don't want visitors. They don't want to be part of the interstellar community in the sector, because its codes and expectations may rest lightly on the other settled worlds, but still they exist. Isolationists do as they please, entirely, and as a result they are entirely responsible for themselves.

Nobody is entirely sure why Efith reached out to a passing Tradeline vessel. An opening of communications, for the first time in decades. There are theories, naturally. A change in priorities, a change in government, some crisis that they alone cannot solve. The diplomats are prying, in their own subtle, delicate ways. And the spacers? They're all on their best behavior.

It came as a surprise to most of the crew of the TS Prosperity that when the invitation from legislator Sarica came, it wasn't for the captain, or any of his most senior officers, but for the young second astrogator, Lieutenant Tayrey. She was sent off to his villa with a few dire diplomatic warnings, after a quiet internal conference. Captain Kavarai guessed why she was chosen, even if few others did. Tayrey may keep it quiet, but she's the adopted daughter of finance director Howard Kittredge, and the biological great-granddaughter of planet-owning trillionaire businesswoman Miri Carrington. She has Tayrey blood too, spacer blood - but she was raised in privilege on the Company world of Cardalek. How did Sarica learn this? Kavarai has his suspicions. Thoughts that he hasn't shared with young Tayrey, not wanting to alarm her.

She's here now, in the gardens of Sarica's villa. As befits the occasion, she's wearing her most formal uniform - tunic and long skirt in bright spacer blue, with elaborate silver braiding. There's an awkwardness to her movements that suggests she's unused to it, not entirely comfortable. Junior lieutenants on frontier runs don't have much call for high formality, after all.

So intent is she on attending to the conversation, and showing an interest in the wide variety of alien plant life in the garden, that she doesn't notice the sky darken. Not until a fat raindrop lands on her nose, and she tilts her head back.]

Is that a storm?

[There's a sense of wonder in her voice, as if this is a rare sight for her - which, of course, it is. Tower-raised and starship-settled, Arilanna Tayrey has only ever seen natural weather conditions when she's out on expedition.]

[Rain in the waking world, rain for the aesthetic in the Dreaming, earth shenanigans, or festivities on another planet, it's all good. I'd prefer no battle scenes but everything else is welcome.]

[There’s a light patter against the windowsill. Droplets slip and slide down the glass of the bedroom window, zigzagging in patterns that seem violent and synchronicitous in turn. The streets outside of Kate’s apartment are reflective with the residual rain as the day is greeted not but sunrise but rather overcast shadow. Humidity still rises, a muggy morning that promises record temperatures when the city meets sun later on. For now though, as a new day dawns and the end of many vigilante nights comes to pass, Dream slides between realms. He meets her mind in one of the soft places, guiding her safe passage across to his realm.

In her dream she’ll first see a sandy space, dunes found in the desert, a brilliant overcast sky with no constellations known on earth now evident. Steadily striding towards her in a form he thinks she’ll trust, one that might evoke comfort, is that of a large black dog. Large. It appears wolf-like, with fur that sticks out like spikes, like his hair does in human form. His eyes match the stars above, keen with recognition, ancient in scope. A powerful predator - or protector. For wolves are also loyal to their own kind, to those they gather beneath their wings.

Dream sits before her. In the distance, a patter of rain can still be heard. She might be aware that she’s not in her bedroom now, but rather, in a soft space where she can accept his invitation deeper into her mind, into his world, or not. Morpheus the Mutt, as Lucienne so kindly calls him, regards her with a head tilt. Into her mind he speaks.]

’Hello, Kate. Given your frequent choice of companions on new adventures, thought this a fitting guise to guide us to the Dreaming. Provided you still wished to walk this path.’

[Dystopian London acid rain, anyone?]

[ ooc: info. up to date with the week 5 lore drop, good with any canon point. the starter below is geared more toward canonmates (or at least canon-familiar), but feel free to suggest a different idea. very open to cross canon/media and original characters as well. ]

[ It doesn't rain out in the asteroid belt but it does on Earth. For a time Mara doesn't even register the drizzle, her mind focused elsewhere, flitting like a hummingbird from guardian to guardian when she senses a boost from her power is needed.

During a lull in activity her focus returns to the material world around her, noting the slight additional weight on her arms from dampened fabric, the idle sensation of a few strands of hair sticking to her cheeks. She rests her arms at her sides for a minute, the glow of the ritual fading, then rolls her shoulders and resumes.

The techeuns currently on guard duty each take their turn trying to urge their queen to take a break. Devrim pays her a visit while the drizzle lets up to a fine mist, working on refining his tactics at respectfully encouraging her to rest under the guise of delivering a status update. Even an Eliksni, a Wolf when she claimed the House and now of House Light, makes a noble attempt. In the end it is Mother Nature that wins out as thunder booms and lightning forks across the sky as a downpour rolls in.

Mara holds her usual stately posture as she walks through one of the Farm buildings that is little more than a shell, and it is only once she's out of view from others, in a quiet corner that had once been a room but only half its walls now remain, that she lets appearance subside. Her shoulders slump and she sweeps her wet hair from her face, exhaustion sinking in. She peels off her soaked outer layer, hanging it on a protruding nail, and drops down into the lone wooden chair with a heavy sigh. Her simple violet long sleeved shirt is soaked too, even under her vambraces, but it's more tolerable at least.

As the weight of it all hangs over her, Mara allows herself this moment out of sight and rests elbows on knees and her head in her hands, closing her eyes. Truth be told, she's not certain of how long she can continue to keep this up. She will, as long as necessary. However she knows there will be more battles to come, and she cannot expend all her energy and power in this endeavor. Not when she doesn't have the benefit of somewhere safe to recharge.

A sound rouses her from heavy thoughts and she lifts her head, waiting to see if it's nothing or someone come to find her. ]

[ The heavy tread goes some way to announcing the nature of her visitor even before one of the Titans stationed around the Farm heaves into view, droplets of rain running unheeded off her white and black armor. There’s a bundle of cloth in her arms, draped with some protective yellow cover; she shifts it to the crook of one arm to knock politely on the battered wood that passes for Mara’s doorway just now. The low thunk of her knuckles is answered by a rolling rumble of thunder overhead. ]

Uh, ma’am- Your Grace. Devrim thought you might want to dry off. [ Not his words exactly, but the gist of them. She pulls off the covering to show what she carries: there’s a couple of worn towels in there, a change of shirt from what she’s seen before the whole lot got shoved into her hands. Behind one shoulder flits the silver shell of her Ghost, his attention focused on something behind them. ]
