It's  simple, really. Think of the age-old practice of dog shaming, but hornier, and with better results.

  • Shame here is subjective. We don't really care what the kink is so long as they're being outed for it.

[Leon had expected the image to flicker as his fingers pass through it but he ends up smirking in amusement as she offers an intangible fist bump. He plays along with a soft chuckle.]

You keep calling Hunnigan an assistant and she'll have us both hunted down. [It's a joke. Probably.]

I'm not sure if so much cross talk would fly... how is she with calling in air support? [Again he's joking. Mostly. If Hunnigan knew he was disparaging her skills, he'd probably have a smack to the back of his head waiting for him.]

So... Lyla helps you. What exactly are you two hunting down? And for who? That company of yours? [He feels that nervous edge inching back in, the uneasy twist in his stomach.]

My apologies, then. [ That's said with sincerity since Miguel didn't mean any disrespect toward her, he simply wasn't sure what to call her. ] Air support? Do you need it often? I'm afraid I don't have any jets or anything of the sort, so no, Lyla doesn't know much about those.

[ At the Spider Society, they have other more advanced machines, that might or might not resemble spiders sometimes, but not the sort of air support Leon might be thinking about. ]

No, I'm not part of any company, that was a lifetime ago. Mostly the focus is on helping with more mundane threats: bank robbers, hostage situations, escaped criminals...[ Also interdimensional anomalies that put the integrity of the universe at risk. Those are the worst.

He's talking about superhero stuff, without actually using those words. ]

[Leon is once again a little confused by the way Miguel phrases things, as if he's bankrolling everything himself.] Air support can- [What is he even talking about, the answer is simple.] Yes. Yeah, it's usually the difference between life and death.

[So, Miguel doesn't so what he does for a company, which is honestly great news. But he also doesn't seem like he does it for the government either.]

... Like a cop? Miguel... stop me if I'm way off base but... what you're describing sounds like vigilantism.

[His expression and posture shifts at the clarification, visibly relaxing.] Gotchya. Like a consultant. [He mostly ignores Miguel's counter accusation, trying and failing to quell a small smirk that tugs at the corner of his mouth.]

Good job. That's not the easiest thing to do. Especially when it comes to violent crimes.

You must be good. [He sounds genuinely impressed.] Especially if you started that pitch with 'so, I bite people'.

[ The lack of further confrontation also helps Miguel feel more at ease. He gives a nod at the consultant comparison. Even though it's not quite the truth, it's close enough, and the smirk is more comforting than irritating. ]

It can be pretty exhausting at times but nothing worth doing is easy. [ Miguel's not used to receiving praise or even thanks for what he does, quite the opposite, and it probably shows in his face. He blinks quickly a couple of times, before looking down at the interdimensional watch on his wrist, almost mumbling. ]
