Tell a story in one sentence

Inspired by our muse community musebysentence . We know that not everyone is interested in joining comms, so we thought we would host a meme based on our community concept and if it is successful, possibly make it a monthly thing. If anyone enjoys the meme, they are welcome to join us on a regular basis at musebysentence , where we offer weekly prompts for muses with open membership. Muses tell their stories in a single sentence about any facet of their life, with first person or third person stories welcome. Sentence stories can be a stand-alone post as merely a snapshot of your character's life, or also act as kick-offs for open RP in response to the sentence like other like RP comms out there, which is our premise for this meme today. Sometimes, a single sentence can paint a bigger picture. Select from one of the 100 prompts below from our prior prompt sets and write a single sentence story for your muse as your starting point. It can literally be about anything. It can be in first person to kick off a conversation, or third person to kick off a whole scene. The choice is up to you. Snapshot a tiny piece of your character's life and others are welcome to tag replies to it. Alternatively, much in the spirit of TFLN, you may prefer to "borrow" a sentence for a starting point from www.onesentence.org that suits your character. If you do, please just note at the bottom of the post a credit to this site so we are aware it's not your own original work just out of courtesy. Rorschach stands by the window, a spray of copper across his scarf that turns browner by the second. The ink blots on his mask shift fast-slow, fast-slow, reflecting unease that otherwise can't really be found (not unless one is looking carefully, not unless one can see the way his shoulders curve, every line of muscle in his body tensing). ]

It was just in Steve's nature to worry about people, even if they were more than capable, and Natasha certainly was. He hadn't long returned from a short mission when he'd heard about her condition. By the time he was able to visit her, she was mostly healed but Steve still thought he should check to see how she was doing.

So, he found himself knocking on the door to her room with a small potted plant in tow. He had thought about getting flowers but that had seemed a bit romantic, but he still didn't want to come empty handed. Steve wasn't sure what would count as an appropriate gift and the plant had seemed safe enough.

"Natasha?" He called out after knocking, waiting to see if she was awake or not.

She was a terrible liar.

She knew it. Giles knew it. No doubt, Sebastian had figured it out just as well. It's why, rather than lying, she'd done her best not to talk at all after her father had left.

She should have been furious after he'd left, leaving their porch bloodied from dragging his battles into their lives. The only thing more obvious than her inability to maintain a lie was her temper and it should have been raging and leaving a wake of destruction through the training room, if nowhere else. After all, that's what he'd said when he left, wasn't it? She had that Lehane temper. That penchant for death and destruction. She was no tiger. She was a bull. A blunt weapon that was only good for destroying everything around her.

But she didn't rage. She didn't lie. She shrugged off Giles' poorly veiled concern before he left to catch a flight back to Scotland, picked at the dinner Sebastian had made until the steak went cold, and then excused herself to go patroling.

Which wasn't a lie. Not really. She did her usual circuit. But she was distracted and being more careless than usual and, not even an hour in, she abandoned any pretense and headed downtown.
