Sometimes you just crave a gentle, loving touch...
and sometimes, you want to shake someone til the change flies out of their pockets.

1. Drag them by the arm; hopefully no square dancing will ensue, because this isn't the wanton cruelty meme.


2. Grab them by the front of their shirt, possibly shoving them back. Also optional: shouting in their face.


3. Take them by the hips to carefully move them out of your way.


4. Smack them upside the head and deal with the repercussions.


5. Grip them by the back of the neck like a reenactment of a cat with kittens.


6. Put a hand on their back to steer them somewhere.


7. Point sternly at a chair (adverb negotiable) and tell them to sit down.


8. Push them back down when they try to get out of bed (perhaps involving illness, injury, or sleep deprivation).


9. Press a finger to their lips to shut them up.


10. Put a hand on their knee while sitting next to them, to discourage them from standing up.


11. Slap their hand away from something they shouldn't touch.


12. Grab their hair (or tie, or whatever) and yank.


13. Slam a door shut before they can leave the room. Alternatively: IN THEIR FACE.


14. Physically pick them up and carry them.


15. Grip their jaw to force eye contact.


16. Pin them with their arms behind their back, like you're the next Bruce Willis.


17. Slam them into a wall. Ouch.


18. Wrestle/pin them to the ground like this is WWE.


19. Trip them, because you are literally or figuratively seven years old.


20. Engage in an elaborate, overly aggressive, or perhaps secret handshake.


21. WILDCARD, if you think you can get wilder than a secret handshake.

but there's compromise. he can play the part of the assistant -- can fake it until he makes it. miguel's been absorbed in his work for hours, holed up in the upper tier of the office, his excuse for a cubicle as he exhausts himself into a fit. roland's arm winds around his waist, yanking him backwards; he's stronger than he looks, but miguel's a heavy weight, and there's a grunt born from the difficulty of the motion. ]

A heavy-hanging moon as full with foreboding potential as a plump persimmon sits callously in the night sky above Loki, who has been subdued. Maybe he's not in the mood to tangle with the gang of 9 foot tall red-skinned oni who surround him. Who knows?

The presentation of a god is not without ceremony. Incense is deceptively gentle on the cool breeze. The stone tiles below their feet are smooth, the lanterns cast barely-present light as if mimicking a hand reaching out to the helpless but failing to reach.

Demons shuffle in silent uncertainty. Did they fetch the right thing? Was this what he wanted? 'He' being a figure seated calmly on a humble three-legged wooden stool at the top of a trio of stone steps leading to the closed door of a disused shrine. The man's modest, traditional Japanese clothing are almost a relief compared to the horned thugs' greasy loincloths. The stains on spiked clubs best left unexamined.

Nothing happens for an immeasurable slice of time until the heel of an oni's palm thicker than a tree truck smashes between Loki's shoulder blades.
