"What do you mean I can't?" She teases in faux surprise. Akihiko's already gravelly voice was raspy as he whispered, something that sent a pleasant tickle through her. Was that concentrated attraction?

It was natural for her to deflect his worry, as much as it was habit for him to be so protective. Always worrying about others before worrying about himself.

"Haha...I'd be more worried about the sober idiots than the drunk oowwhoops!" She yelped a little louder than she'd wanted, but she couldn't help it, she was roughly shoved forward, pushed up against Akihiko.

The silver-haired boxer smirked, knowing full well that Mitsuru would get on their leader’s case if she ever did such a thing. “Not unless you want to cause a scene. There are other ways to take men down than using a blade.”

He pressed his lips together at hearing the comment about sober idiots. They were perfectly lucid and-

-Minako suddenly crashed into him. His stance automatically tensed, digging his heels into the ground for much-needed balance. His arms went around her, holding her against him protectively.

“What’s wrong?” He asked, his brows furrowed with concern.

Minako's face was flattened into Akihiko's chest, and as his arms circled around her, it pressed deeper still. "Mrrf--"

A faint whistling noise sounded at her feet, followed by a cold, wet sensation slathering up the back of her leg. At first she jumped, but then it all came together--

"Koro-chan?" Minako's voice was still muffled in Akihiko's chest, but she slowly turned her head to peer down over her shoulder.

He held onto her for a moment longer, and then released her shoulders to avoid suffocating her against his chest.

“Hey there, Koromaru,” Akihiko greeted as he stepped forward and knelt down to pet him. “What’re you doing up here, boy? This is the girls’ floor, you know.”

“Arf!”

Akihiko patted his head one more time before straightening back up. “I’ll take him back down.”

He paused in thought, and then curled an arm around her waist to pull her close to him for a hug. “All right, then… Good night, Minako.”

Minako softly smiled, watching Akihiko bend down to tend to the canine's endless need for attention. Her face warmed again as she caught herself admiring him. Sure, he acted tough, and quickly showed aggression when the situation called for it. But this is how she liked to remember him, being so tender...

Oops--was she staring? Minako suddenly felt self-conscious as Akihiko straightened up, pausing--did he see her?

It was hard to completely follow his movements in the dark, but she felt solid strength encircling her once more, and the familiar spot against his chest was assurance enough to bring her arms up behind his back and pull him to her. She closed her eyes for a moment, content to stay like this for a little longer...

"Good night."

Koromaru was diligent in guarding their propriety, however, as he wedged himself between their legs with great eagerness.

Akihiko laughed softly when their embrace was disrupted, trying in vain to keep his voice down. “Okay, okay. I get it, boy. I’m going.”

His fingertips lightly grazed her cheek in a parting gesture. “See you in the morning…”

He turned away and walked down the hall toward the stairs with Koromaru trotting beside him.
