[ A cavalcade of events follow. Press conferences, meetings, parties, the like, all requiring the attendance of the new CEO and his wife, now the most visible and likely to be the most well-remembered of the previous CEO's children. They do— well. They smile, arm in arm, accept congratulations as to the pregnancy, as to his promotion. And then they go back to their apartment, together, and sleep in the same bed.

It would be a lie to say that everything's back to normal, that everything's good between them. But it's not bad, or at least it's not as bad as it could be. He sees it sometimes, either a lack of any real feeling when she looks at him or a barely concealed unwillingness to play nice in front of other people. It's to be expected, he supposes — there's a new kind of imbalance between them, now. As with anything, it'll take some time to get used to. Like getting your sea legs, or some similar bullshit. And even beyond their new positions, they've said things to each other, now, that are difficult to walk back from.

It's a party, again, tonight. Well, technically a fundraising event, but if the DJ and general vibe are any indication, it's a party.
