[ matthew has been looking out the large window to the side of his booth for a while now as his coffee grows cold. the swirls of half-n-half blend until it becomes a light caramel color. as if he has tired of waiting, he turns his head to look back inside the denny's and spots kate. she seems to be all alone. it takes so much effort to quell that predatory urge within him, but he remains perfectly still in his seat. ]

Vanessa is just your typical overworked social worker, called up out of bed to deal with the fallout from a trafficking ring bust. Hours have passed since then, hours dedicated to figuring out safe places for the kids to stay while others in the department do their best to track down more stable relatives to take custody.

She's got her head resting on one hand as she nurses a cup of coffee and waits for her order to be deposited at her table. It's been a very long night and she's hungry, and tired, and... possibly waiting for you to join her?

Asura is absolutely overdressed for Denny's, his black and red suit a stand-out even where it would be appropriate. It's not even nearly the most eye-catching part of him- a huge third eye on his forehead and his two in the usual spot sporting a second, smaller pair inside of them. Black and white hair in eye patterns push the theme even further. And sure, he's a looming weirdo but he looks just as run-down as Vanessa. All his eyes are lidded, in that barely awake way. Holding a cup between two hands.

"One of those days?" His voice, at least, is soft, quiet and sweet.

[Despite the fact that Miku was very happy to be able to go on missions with Hibiki and the others now, she had to admit that having something happen in the middle of the night that needed them was annoying. Still, it was better than being woken up because Hibiki needed to go on a mission and waiting around at home with worry and being unable to go to sleep anyway.

But either way, mission was over and a success and it was now time for post-mission breakfast! In the middle of the night. Well, early morning but really same difference. Then again, considering they were probably going to be passing out as soon as they got home...]

[ Integra happens to be sitting in the booth right beside his, a cup of barely-touched Earl Grey already cooling on its cheap cup set in front of her. That shall be the first (and likely) last time she partakes in the flavorless and low-quality brews in these otherworldly cafeterias. As novel as the experience was. A sip was all she needed to refuse to continue. She is toying with her unlit cigar (regretting there was no open seat in the smoking section), eyes drifting back and forth to study those around her. The peaceful atmosphere will never dull her sense of danger.

Her gaze falls on the man sitting alone, holding a mug with a trembling grip, unable to peel his gaze from the darkness outside. She isn't on her land, there is no duty to tie her to anyone here, but she cannot ignore this. After a few minutes, she rises from her booth and moves to the next one. ]

Pardon me. [ She clears her throat, skipping pleasantries. She glances at him and the direction he is looking at. ] Are you expecting an attack?
