It was the night before they were to face Lucian and everyone was getting as much rest as possible; the Dome had been summoned and Essek offered to keep one part of the watch. He tranced, he would be able to pick up a double duty if needed so that one of the others could get an extra bit of sleep. However, as he sat there working through his own spellwork and preparing his own spells, he noticed that there was a quiet almost nervous energy to Caleb Widogast who was keeping watch but a few feet away.

Very carefully he slid a foot closer to Caleb so that perhaps they could talk quietly together. He was only a little bit uncertain of Caleb at this point in time, he did not think the other man hated him, and perhaps friendship. But he did not think anything more.

"Are you alright, Caleb?" he murmured this quietly so as to not wake the others.

She's no fool, he'll give her that.

She waited until the pirates had slipped away to talk privately, as they were wont to do, and for a good hour past when his watch had ended and the children were occupied murmuring during theirs. Her only real mistake was assuming he'd be asleep, and so he sees her stuff her bed role and slip, remarkably quietly, away from camp.

He lets her have a head start, because this nonsense needs to end. It isn't the first time she's tried to do something reckless on her own. She's young and she's passionate and those things he admires, but she has a sword hand and she's too precious to sacrifice herself for something as stupid as poor judgement.

Then he rises and follows, picking his way down the back tunnel of the cave and out into the open of the Tchita Uplands where the moonlight is crisp and the air is cool. He's a good deal taller than her, and it doesn't take that long to overtake her, wrapping his arms around her from behind so that her weapon arm is pinned, lifting her feet from the ground.

"If I were someone with a death wish toward you, you'd be dead."
