[While she's giggling along with the bird at first, her face pales even at the mention of jumping off that cliff, so her next response is quick]

I... think I would like to just climb on, for now... i-if that's alright.

[Bit of an awkward grin here. Perhaps if she were more like Cynthia (who was probably yelling JUUUUUMP this very moment) she'd be more for it, but for a first try... yeah, that's a no-go]

[over there, the peanut gallery consisting of her sister and cousin are screeching about how she should have jumped]

[from Link, she gets a nod. The Loftwing, being the clever thing it is, moves towards Lucina before settling down and lowering his head so that she could climb on more easily. It even croons softly, as if to reassure her.

Meanwhile, it's partner will just be here, giving her directions as to how to sit, watch your legs and try not to pull on it's feathers]

[It's all very reminiscent of her mother's attempts to teach her to ride, change in mounts aside. Gulping down her nerves, Lucina eventually gets herself into position. So far, so good-- but they hadn't even gotten off the ground yet!

She looks between the Loftwing and Link, silently looking for approval- was she doing this right? What next? It wouldn't be another of her mother's sudden, clumsy takeoffs, would it?]

[the Loftwing cheerfully chirps at Lucina when it notices the looks she's sending towards him and his partner. If she needed to adjust, the Loftwing would try to be as accommodating as possible! ... Even if it's partner was a natural at this whole flying thing]

There. Feel all right?

[Link remembers taking to the air immediately the first time he met his Loftwing, but... Well, he's going to refrain from telling stories about all those times he was shot out of a cannon or thrown into the sky by whirlwinds. Lucina looked worried enough.

And they hadn't even taken to the sky yet!]

[Perhaps it was a childish fear-- a few bad experiences that soured her preference, but the two of them were being so accommodating that the princess was able to relax significantly.]

Yes, I think so...!

[It's more comfortable than she expected...!]

[with that confirmation, Link hops up behind Lucina and onto his Loftwing who simply spreads it's wings as it stands. It doesn't take off quite yet, as if it's waiting for some unknown signal that only it and Link knew.

Maybe he was a little too close, but there wasn't much room on the bird to begin with...]

Ready to go?

[but his eyes were shining as he waits to make sure that she was okay with flying. This is your last chance to back out...!]

...!

[Oh. Well, this is different. Especially considering the times with Sumia and Cynthia were when they were all considerably younger, and Link being... well, Link causes the princess to fluster a little whether she likes it or not. Still, she does her best not to squirm for the sake of the Loftwing, takes a deep breath, and nods gently in reply. There's no backing out now!]

It's now or never, heh.

[with that last reply, Link gives a firm nod as his Loftwing simultaneously beats it's wings to take flight. The initial takeoff is a bit bumpy, what with the wingbeats and the fact that it is a bird, but once they're flying the Loftwing needs fewer wing beats to stay aloft and simply soars.

Link is careful to keep land within eyeshot and to make sure they don't fly too high, but considering his normal speed is 'lazy gliding' anyway... Well, Lucina has plenty of time to enjoy the view]

[A little yelp of surprise escapes as they take off, Lucina instinctively clinging tighter to the Loftwing's back-- she remembers after a moment not to pull, and for the first while keeps herself pressed tightly up against Link, as if that were somehow safer.

When enough time passes that she can relax again, they're simply gliding, and it's a much different sensation than the one she remembers. No moody pegasus, no sister insisting upon doing aerial tricks and turns-- just a nice, calm float, really. She's even enjoying the view, now!]

Link, this is amazing! I've not seen anything like it!

[the Loftwing must've noticed Lucina relaxing, because it chirrups at it's passenger. There are wing beats every so often, but they're slow and smooth compared with the galloping movements of pegasus or the rise and fall of a wyvern]

....?

[Link, after a while, has his eyes closed and seems perfectly content just letting his Loftwing do the flying for them. He only looks at Lucina once she speaks up again]

It is quite different, isn't it? There are forests and mountains on land and you can never seen enough, and on the ocean there's just water every which way. But up here...

[up here, save for any cloud cover, one could see everything]

[After a moment's consideration, Lucina feels comfortable enough to adjust her grip some, letting one hand go to gently pat the Loftwing on the neck, then leaning back to rest against Link gently.]

It seems I was missing out, up 'til now... no wonder Mother and the others love the skies so much. It's absolutely breathtaking, isn't it...?

[there's a quiet crooning when Lucina pets it. Otherwise, it continues making slow laps across the sky. Link just hums quietly in agreement]

Let me know if you'd like to land.

[a pause, then he happily adds]

And I'm glad you're enjoying yourself! It's been a while since I've gotten to fly like this myself.

["Just a little longer?" She doesn't speak it out loud, but allows herself a silly, secret smile without turning around to face him. She's quite content for now, enjoying the view and the mixed sensation of cool wind and a warm, familiar presence.]

And by 'a while' I'm sure you mean a great deal longer than most people, don't you? If anyone deserves a break, it's most definitely you...

[his ears turn a little red at the mention of just how much time it's been for him. Oh... Well, she's not wrong]

W-Well... [most people tend to forget he's older than dirt] Sort of...

[there's a pause, then softly and with a smile]

No, thank you for giving us a chance.

[How could they forget? To her, it's one of the more interesting things about him. Ah, well. She giggles, tilting her head back to grin back at him before turning her gaze back down to the Loftwing, giving it another affectionate pat.]

I... suppose we should be getting back soon, though. There's still much to do if we're to move on in the morning.

[She's sure she'll spend a lot of the evening being accosted by the other children in her family ~~"Why didn't you jump?! What was it like?! Why were you gone so long, you two?~"~~ but of course, duty first...]

[Link simply nods and the Loftwing lets out another soft 'scree~' before it turns and slowly descends for a landing. Being comfortable and confident with this sort of thing, Link hops off the bird before it even properly touches the ground (though it might have been a little startling for Lucina to suddenly be without her backrest). After a smooth landing, he holds a hand out for her to help her dismount even as his Loftwing settles down, wings tucked in and head lowered.

Scree~]

[It's a bit of a surprise, but it only lasts a moment. The landing-- so much gentler than on the back of a pegasus or Gods forbid a wyvern-- is easy enough, and she takes Link's hand gratefully as she gets off.]

Thank you both for that. It was much nicer than I could ever hope for it to be... [A pause, as she squeezes Link's fingers while they're still in grasp. No more meaning behind it than a signal for the coming question, spoken rather sheepishly.]

If you'd... If the two of you don't mind, I would very much like to try again sometime. If that's alright.

[once she's off, the Loftwing stands up again. At the thank you, the Loftwing stands up and calls out cheerfully. It's meaning is clear; 'You're welcome!'

It's partner, on the other hand, is much quieter. He returns the squeeze and bows from the waist, just enough to let her know that he would honour her request at anytime. Link lets go of her hand as he stands up again, still smiling]
