Blake had wanted to run away from it all. Just reunite from her parents, and decide it was better to just hide from the world. However, someone she knew and cared for dearly had been hurt.
Pyrrha didn't have any family nearby. She'd have to be taken all the way to Mistral. So Blake had simply come along to help get her home. However, as they neared Mistral airspace, they had gotten reports of flying Grimm. Far too many for Pyrrha to be taken there safely.
Despite not having seen her parents in so long, she decided it was the only option they had to get Pyrrha proper medical treatment. So she requested they divert to Menagerie. She'd be able to facilitate this. Evidenced by the fact that her name was enough to get her father to approve it immediately.
When all was said and done, Pyrrha was admitted to Menagerie's largest hospital. For her heroics, Pyrrha was given an honorary citizenship to Menagerie despite being a human.
While she was in the hospital, Pyrrha was visited by many people. Blake, Sun, Ghira, and most frequently of all, Kali.
The woman had fussed over the girl pretty much as soon as she arrived. She brought Pyrrha food, checked on her pain, talked to doctors to make sure Pyrrha got the care she needed. At first, it was a little less frequent, because of course Kali wanted to see her daughter suddenly returned to her. However, while Pyrrha was in the hospital, things had changed. The people of Menagerie decided they needed to band together, to face the rest of the world rather than hiding away. To create a new brotherhood, led by Ghira.
Which meant Ghira, Blake and Sun leaving. Kali elected to stay behind with Pyrrha, not wanting her to be alone, especially after everything she went through.
When Pyrrha was fit enough that she didn't need constant hospital supervision, Kali insisted Pyrrha stay with her at the manor. It'd let them spend time together, and Kali could look after Pyrrha better that way. Of course, that wasn't mentioning the other feelings that were beginning to form in Kali.
She'd done her best not to let it inform her decisions or her actions, but she'd become quite smitten with the huntress-in-training. It showed itself in little ways, mostly Kali being very affectionate with the red-head, hugs and touches to her shoulders or knees.
When they were alone, it became more pronounced. Such as right now, Kali was in a low-cut top, she might have bought it after Pyrrha's arrival, and she was on her knees in front of Pyrrha's wheelchair, massaging some medicinal oil onto her legs.
They'd been able to take the cast off her leg, but it still got tender. She smiled up at Pyrrha, "You may have had to take some time off, but you still have plenty of defined muscle here. You'll be able to be on your feet as much as you want soon enough." Even now, Pyrrha could take brief walks, but Kali reminded her to be careful to avoid an unnecessary injury.

But the explosion had also thrown Pyrrha around, worsening her injuries, and she'd been totally unconscious when the emergency medical transport had been ordered. From there it's - flashes of pain, being unable to breathe, re-breaking her fractured leg to set it properly, which woke her up screaming until she fell into unconsciousness again.
Everything else had to be explained to her when she finally woke in Menagerie, miles and miles and miles away from Beacon or Mistral, or any of the places she used to call home. Miles away from her team - did anyone even know if she had survived, with communications down?
Cinder and her lackies had well and truly crippled Remnant, and she'd gotten what she wanted - the Fall maiden's power. Pyrrha, all the way out in Menagerie, was the only one who knew what had happened - but who could she trust, with that information? Who knew if Ozpin had even survived? What if he hadn't? What if nobody had?
It was all too much, and Pyrrha was ashamed to admit that she was hiding from it all. It was a good excuse, being injured; and better still that Blake's family and friends had taken her in with such kindness. She did not take it lightly; the honorary citizenship, the sense of community, the way Mrs. Belladonna had opened her home so freely. Kali, as she insisted Pyrrha call her, which was, in and of itself, yet another kindness Pyrrha had no way to return.
Kali was a lovely woman; beautiful, strong. Pyrrha could not deny she looked up to her, in so many ways. Now that she was regaining her strength, Pyrrha was trying to be less of a burden - trying to do more for herself, though Kali was always there, encouraging her to recuperate and not push too hard.
Like now - Pyrrha probably could have put the medicinal oil on by herself, but Kali had insisted, and Pyrrha couldn't deny it did help. "That is my hope. To begin training again soon..."
She trailed off, the uncertainty and hesitation clear in her voice. The idea of getting back to fighting felt...heavy. She knew that she must, knew that she wanted to, deep down...but she was scared. How could she not be? The phantom ache in her chest stung, even though the wound had since closed into a puckered scar on her chest. "...I appreciate you, staying here with me. I know that must have been hard, with everyone else going off...to fight."
Pyrrha has said a version of this almost every day since Blake and co left, feeling guilty for keeping Kali here, despite the fact that the older woman volunteered to do so. She gives her a soft, appreciative smile, even though she knows Kali likely won't accept her platitudes.
