Cor Leonis - Final Fantasy XV - Open to Anyone
3ish only not so much of a baby
Though Regis doubts Cor could ever forget the boy. He had fought so hard to try and get custody of him only to be told with his age and position in the Crownsguard that he wouldn't be able to give the boy a stable home.
Six, he had been such a sickly looking thing. Tiny and blond. Clinging to Cor until the very moment he was taken away and placed with his adoptive parents.
Regis wonders if he should've done more. If his word could've swayed minds. But he had been selfish. Hadn't wanted to lose Cor's service. Plus Cor had been little more than a child himself.
But if Cor had raised the boy, things wouldn't be in the mess they are now.
"The Crownsguard and the Kingsglaive have been tasked with locating Mr and Mrs Argentum on grounds of neglect and endangerment. It is believed they are not currently in Insomnia. And the boy... is currently in the hospital."
Regis hands over the file. Prompto's file. Most of which is redacted. "He can't be discharged until a foster carer is found for him..."

Cor just couldn't leave the child behind, not to be doomed as a test subject for however few years the Niffs would've given him. And by the time he had arrived home, he had grown attached enough to want to try and raise the kid himself. But no, he was told that his job alone disqualified him. And it had lead to a heartbreaking decision - leave the Crownsguard, or give up the baby for adoption.
It was more or less a foregone solution; Cor would never, ever abandon his duties to crown and country. He had his regrets at first, but the initial reports that the child seemed to be doing well and was being taken care of had put him at ease.
Until Regis drops the news about the charges being filed against the Argentums. "...they promised that they would care for him as if they were his own blood," Cor finds himself growling as he took the file. He wasn't worried about the redacted parts; most of it, he lived it himself from that life-changing mission.
The idea that he may have a second chance, even as a foster, was enough for him. He doesn't even look up from reading the file as he answered, "I still have that guest bedroom at my apartment. It'll be a little dusty, but it should be spacious enough for a kid his age." He then scowls as he reads over the newest part of the file: the medical report of the child's current condition. "Those assholes...how could they do that to a kid?!"
no subject
"He fell off a roof. Trying to fix a loose roof tile. A mere babe, trying to do an adult's job." He pauses, unsure if he should continue, but he knows Cor will see it in the report anyway. "The boy has some old scars, seemingly caused by a cigarette or something similar."
Regis rests a hand on Cor's shoulder. "A car is waiting to take you to the hospital."
no subject
"...Regis, promise me that you're going to have the prosecutors throw the whole damn book at them," he finally replied with icy fury. He stood up and put the file away into the Armiger. "You said that they may have fled out of the city, yes?" he inquired as he grabbed his jacket. "Once the kid's safe at home, I'll call Cid - see if they were stupid enough to drop by Hammerhead at some point."
He stops to close his eyes and take a few, deep breaths to get his anger under control. "...we never should've given him up. I should've never given him up. And I'm going to fight another attempt to take him away from me," he adds as he looks his dear friend and king right into his eyes.
no subject
"I'm sorry I didn't support you more back then, my friend. Forgive an old fool?" They won't make the same mistake twice, that's for sure. The child will be safe, loved and protected from now on.
Said child is currently sitting in a hospital bed with a cast on his arm, a member of the Crownsguard stationed outside his room and the biggest bowl of jello and ice cream any child could ever wish for. He just doesn't understand why they won't let him go home.
no subject
Cor hops into the car, and lets it drive him into the hospital. A flash of his ID gets him ushered straight up to the kid's hospital room, where he exchanges salutes with the Crownsguard on duty there before stepping inside.
And there...there's the kid, looking far larger than when he last saw him. At least the kid seems to have been eating well enough; small comfort there. A swell of emotions rise in his chest, but he keeps it contained for now. He gives the child a reassuring smile as he steps towards the bed. "Prompto, right? I'm Cor Leonis. How are you feeling?"
no subject
"Do you know when they will let me go home? I want to go home. I need to put the ladder away and I haven't taken out the trash and I need my spare glasses... and... and I want to go home..." Prompto's bottom lip starts to quiver as he speaks.
no subject
He then gently reaches out to put a comforting hand on the child's shoulder. "It'll be okay, Prompto. I can always have someone go and get your glasses and finish those chores for you. You don't have to worry about doing any chores until your arm's fully healed." His smile fades as he continues. "We're more worried about your parents. We've been having trouble finding them after you were brought here to the hospital, and the doctors want to make sure that a trusted adult can help watch over you while your arm heals. Do you know where they might be?" He suspects that someone may have asked the child before, he wanted to double-check just in case.
no subject
"My mom and dad? They're not here. Um, they could be in Accordo, maybe? They work." He can't tell Cor what they do for work because he doesn't know. But he does know they often go to Accordo and leave him to fend for himself. The worst thing is, he doesn't even seem to realise how messed up it is that the people who are supposed to take care of him all but abandon him for weeks on end.
"When can I go home?" He asks again, a chubby little hand rubbing at his eyes, trying to hold back the tears.
no subject
That last question has Cor looking sympathetic. "Not for a while, I'm afraid. The doctors don't want you to be all alone while your arm is in that cast, so that's why you can't go home yet. Plus, people are worried about you being alone for a very long time without anyone to look after you. So, I've volunteered to let you stay with me for as long as you'd like, even after the arm is healed."
