It was a sunny afternoon day on Coney Island and he had a few more days of leave before they were shipping out across the ocean. So of course he'd agreed to a trip to the place, rides, snacks, games, it was all really enjoyable with his buddies. Of course his buddies had already gotten distracted by pretty girls, but James was a bit more picky when it came to the dames.
Then he sees her from across the way in her sundress and red hair and his heart skips a beat, yeah, that's the one he wants to talk to. He glances around and notices a snow cone stand going to order two red ones, straightening his uniform before he approaches her. "Hey cutie, my buddy ditched me, so I happen to have a second one of these, you don't perhaps want it do you?"
Natasha's friend had disappeared a while ago, leaving her all by her lonesome. Not that she minds, of course. She likes wandering around by herself, people watching, and meeting new people. And the park was a great place to do that.
When she hears a voice, she looks up. Well, now. She definitely isn't complaining about the handsome stranger smiling at her. She easily returns that smile, "How could I turn down an offer like that?" Taking the snow cone, she tilts her head a little, "What's your name, handsome?"
"Sargent James Barnes, at your service," he says with a playful wink and gives her a little bit of a head nod smiling big, charming like she was the moon in the sky and the only thing he could see.
"And what about you pretty lady? Where did your friends leave you all alone, they should know that's dangerous for a girl as pretty as you..." he teases, hopefully not indicating that he himself could be the dangerous one.
"Sargeant?" Her eyebrows shoot up, clearly impressed. He also has an absolutely wonderful smile, especially when it's directed towards her. She has no problem mirroring it with a bright one of her own.
"Natalie Rushman. It's a pleasure to meet you, Sargeant Barnes." She pauses long enough to take a small bite of her snow-cone, not wanting it to melt all over her hand. "They did. Maybe I need a chaperone to keep all those dangerous people away."
"Nice to meet you Miss Rushman," he says watching her lips as she takes a bite of the snow cone. It's distracting as a little bit of red coats her lips which already have lipstick and and flicks his tongue across his lips subconsciously before taking a bite of his own.
"I would be happy to help keep an eye out for you, did you have anything you were specifically wanting to do? A ride? The midway?" he offers glancing around, he didn't really have a plan but he was happy to make sure she had an enjoyable afternoon.
She catches him looking at her lips and she smiles. She'll have to thank her friends for ditching her. Otherwise she wouldn't have met this handsome gentleman.
"Well, I don't think a ride is a good idea with these." Lifting the snowcone, she smirks. "Why don't we start with a walk around and see where that takes us?"
"Well aren't you a smart cookie, toots," he teases and starts to walk with her as they eat the snow cone. He supposes he can get her on a ride where she snuggles up to him afraid of it later, yeah, that sounds like a good plan.
"So what's a pretty girl like you doing here? Are you from around here?" he asks curiously, sure, there were a lot of dames in New York but certainly he'd never seen one as pretty as Ms Rushman who was standing right next to him, red hair blazing in the sun.
"Why yes, thank you for noticing." She smirks coyly. As they walk, she sticks close by his side. Her shoulder occasionally bumps his arm as they move.
"Not originally, no. I just moved here. I'm staying with family right now." Glancing up at him, she watches his face. He's got a nice smile, and really kind eyes. It's hard to believe he's going off to war. "What about you?"
"Yeah, since I was about 7 or so. Was born in Indiana though, dad was in the Military too..." he explains as he gives her a soft smile back, it was a sunny day out but he was sure that if it wasn't, that smile could have brightened even the darkest of skies.
"Well, I hope New York city treats you even half as good as you look because then you'd be the best treated dame in the city.." he says with a dumb smile as they walk over towards the pier.
