[ Moving from Alaska to Indiana had both been a step up in the world and also, unmistakably, a step down. Sure, the nearest mall was only a twenty minute drive instead of four hours one way, but that doesn't mean that fucking Hawkins had all that much to offer, not to a girl used to spending all her time out in the wilderness hemmed in by mountains and blanketed by a glittering night sky.

The high school here is bigger, though, with better sports. The Beckets arrived a little too late in the season for Jaz to join anything she's actually good at, and like hell is she going to become a cheerleader, so for now she's been relegated to being just a fan. Or whatever's closest to being a fan when she finds most of the people on all the sports teams unbearable and tries her best to avoid them whenever possible.

That's easier said than done, however, because it seems like everywhere she turns, there's always a gaggle of green and white letterman jackets about to intercept her, and she's gotten really tired of trying to dodge hopeful meatheads who think they can impress the new girl because she doesn't know them the way the kids they grew up around do. She knows enough. She's known her fair share of jocks, and while she can comfortably be accused of being part of their ranks, she likes to think she's self-aware enough to know better than to throw her hat in the ring with those guys.

She'd decided to swing by the diner after school, both because she's hungry but also because going home is a pretty boring prospect now that both Yancy and Raleigh have enlisted and fucked off to go defend their country or whatever, and she's just rounded the corner of a booth when she spots an unmistakable flash of white and green and feels her stomach sink. All week she's been dodging Hank Richter and trying desperately to be casual about it, because she's still new here and can't quite survive the social suicide of telling one of the most popular football players to fuck off even though she grew up with two brothers and nothing to do expect pick fights with them. She's a little afraid of what muscle memory will have her doing without thinking it through if things come to an actual confrontational head, which is why she flings herself in both the metaphorical and actual physical opposite direction and turns on her heel to plop into the seat that's open right beside her.

The booth is currently occupied by the loudest boy in school, one of the heavy-metal types who likes to draw attention to himself by antagonizing the popular kids. Munster, or something.

Maybe she could have picked a better booth if she's trying to avoid ruffling too many feathers, but it's too late. She's here, she's committed, she's already picked up his wrist and lifted his arm so she can scoot in close and drop it around her shoulders. ] Hi, babe.

[Whoever assigned the two to be together for this job clearly wanted to have a long laugh. Wolfwood is not someone who needs a babysitter, and Bayonetta wants a guard to keep an eye on her like she wants a bullet in her skull. Clearly, it's a match made in heaven.

The assignment is easy: they're working together under the guise that they've decided to have a little fun in terms of rooting out potential angelic influences nearby. At least there's a sort of camaraderie in that neither really want to stick together long enough like this, but every now and then you have to deal with the hand you've been dealt.

Which is why Bayonetta is currently lazing an entire arm on Wolfwood's shoulder, one hand delicately trying to grab his chin and look at her while she's purposely being flirty with him.]

Like it or not, we are stuck together for now, so I suppose we should do as the modern kids say these days, and "deal with it."
