Ah the outdoor hotspring/spa resort. Truly one of life's greatest pleasures and just the best damn way to relax. But this is no ordinary hotspring resort. The staff are all scantily clad, the rooms are stocked with condoms and lube, the bath robes supplied have VERY short hemlines, and the bathing areas are mixed gender. The owner of this resort is strongly of the opinion that there's nothing more relaxing than a good, hard, fucking. So come on in, enjoy our facilities, and enjoy each other.

[Whatever pain came from the knots on his back faded quickly, both from her touch and getting this off his chest. For once, he felt more at peace, not worried Rebecca was going to strangle him behind or something, even leaning into her touch. He could afford to smile, albeit still a bit bitterly. Indeed, his team was practically a family.

And it hurt like hell when they died.]

It was, until I lost them all. We learned of what the Syndicate planned, and worked alongside Amber and her group once we knew the truth. Through the fighting, they all laid down their lives for my sake. We won, but the cost was greater than I ever wanted to pay. If it's not the fear of someone stabbing me in the back forcing me awake, it's their final moments. I actually miss their nagging and insults thrown my way whenever I screwed something up. Or their delighted faces when I finally have time to make something good.

[ Her touch gentled, rubbing absently at some of the area she worked on to help ease some of that pain, thankful for the heat from the spa. Feeling him lean into her touch like that brought a faint smile, though she still resisted the urge to wrap her arms around him. He didn't deserve losing his family -twice-. ]

I'm so sorry..

[ She gently murmured, her hands starting to massage his back. Maybe ..change the topic - although she had the feeling that most topics were going to lead back to that kind of pain. ]

.. I saw you have some scars on your back -

[ Not mentioning she first noticed when she stared at his back earlier. (cough) ]

Was it from the battle then?

[Thankfully, the subject on those was lighter, at least compared to losing everything. He paused back a bit, trying to fully recall the tale of those two scars as he was massaged.]

Those were from back when I worked alongside my sister and was still learning. Kind of embarrassing really. [But perhaps a topic they could both maybe laugh at, sooooo--]

Before I utilized the ether gear, I had tools to help me swing from trees and buildings: a wire set. [And kill people, but again, leaving certain details out.] I was maybe about 11 at the time, and I was a bit clumsy at first. The first was during my first day of training. Hit my shoulder when the anchor knife missed the target. Got wrapped up in my own wires as well. Amber ended up laughing for days as she helped me, and it wouldn't be the last time.

Second time was a bit more serious. I was panicked and rushing to my sister when she was under attack. Thought using the wires could get me there faster too. Again, I missed the anchor mark. Slipped up and hit a sharp rock on my side, and was left hanging upside down on a branch. My sister though? Perfectly fine. She just blinked at me as I hid the pain, though caught on eventually as it became harder to hide. First time she ever really got mad at me, but we quickly made up. Amber though was laughing her head off, and would tease me about it as I improved.

It would take years before I improved with it. But as a kid, while I could be deadly, I was also extremely clumsy. [The fact he only got two scars out of it was a miracle.]

[ Aww. She giggles at the mental image of tiny clumsy Hei - even back then. Even if he was able to kill effectively as a child, there was still something endearing about hearing about those kinds of flaws. ]

I think I can relate.. Maybe not to getting scars, but I've missed my mark when using my ether gear before too. Usually when I'm panicked. But still, you're really lucky- you could have gotten much more badly injured. Especially here - [ She drifted her hand to the scars on his side briefly. ]

They don't still hurt do they?

[ She had to marvel that he -really- kept his body in shape - she could tell from -- wait, focus, Rebecca. ]

[He shook his head, giving a small smile as he glanced at Rebecca over his shoulder. Did certainly in steering things to a better direction, lighter. As much as he liked the small touches with comfort, he did want to be closer with Rebecca beyond just the sadder tales.]

No, I've honestly had worse pain. [Thankfully didn't leave marks, on the outside at least. Such wounds have long since healed though.] Your hands are quite soft actually.

[ She smiled, nodding at that before turning her attention back to his back. ]

That's good. If they still bothered you after all this time, you'd probably have to see Sister, and.. well..

[ She might be professional and she might not.. depends on how good Hei's reactions were. Rebecca gave her a 70/30 split on that. ]

I .. [ Oh. Wow he really should smile like that more often. She blushed again, glancing at her hands with a smile. ]

W-well I should hope so, or I'd have to change hand lotion brands.

[ Joking lightly. After all he'd know how soft her hands were with the way they were gently working on his back. ]

I have endured a lot of pain. Something tells me she might exceed my tolerance for it tenfold.

[Sometimes, appearances and impressions mattered. Sister was enough for Hei to shoot down the idea immediately; he wasn't masochistic enough for such a thing.

The blushing seemed to suit Rebecca well too. That smile, those touches, even her words, he looked far more at peace. If he could smile like this again, it just showed how comfortable he was around his new friend. He did however remember her own lack of sleep from before, how they met before bathing together.]

[ Funny, she'd almost forgotten her own insomnia, just listening to him talking. Something to occupy her mind with. But it wasn't fair to get him to talk about his troubles, and she didn't say anything on what kept her up. ]

Ah... it's not anything as unpleasant as what you told me. It's something that's technically another lifetime.. another time? ago but every once in a while.. [ She paused. ]

You know about the nature of my ether gear, right? [ Talking about her power was fine - talking about the possibilities she's seen and experienced on the other hand... well, some of them were downright unpleasant, and kept her up late at night. ]

I know the basics of what I've seen you do out there and in training. I'm guessing there's more to it?

[Having abnormal ether gear wasn't out of the ordinary to him, especially with the one passed on by his sister. It's why he was hunted in the first place. Her words though did make him raise an eyebrow.]

Yeah.. it's.. kind of like creating possibilities. I can't really pick which possibility I jump to though, and when I do use it it feels more like a ..rewind to give another chance to try something a different way for a better chance of success.

[ Drakken in one timeline, had wanted her for her power badly enough to murder Shiki. ]

There was one mission we went on where I had to go up against a ..gambler. The winner got to ask for anything from the loser. In one possible timeline.. I lost. She took my legs.

[ She tenses up again, just at the memory of waking up with no legs - she swallowed back the ball of hysteria she remembered feeling when she woke up what..ten..years later in that timeline? ]

[To anyone else, it might sound off. To Hei though, he understood completely. Amber had possessed a similar ability, but only able to see and alter the future she saw, no second chances. Sounded like Rebecca had a far stronger ability. He turned around to face her, hand on her shoulder placed gently. Modesty be dammed, he couldn't control himself from wanting to offer some support.]

I don't blame you for being unable to sleep. Even if you can change the future to be better, the possibility could still affect your mind greatly.

[ She mustered up a small smile, for the moment putting aside embarrassment in the situation. ]

Yeah.. sometimes I have to check to make sure they're there when I dream of that time. [ She gave a weak, self depreciating laugh. Then shook her head a bit, a hand reaching up to give his an appreciative squeeze. ]

A.. anyway, like I said.. it wasn't as heavy as what you told me. I almost feel embarrassed about it.

[He shook his head immediately.]

No, don't be. I doubt many could even retain their sanity. Controlling such a power requires a lot of willpower, especially with that kind of nightmare.

[He doubted he could handle it. His anger got the better of him at times. Even now, his first instinct was to offer comfort to someone be considered very close, to give what Amber had always given him when he felt vulnerable.

He offered a comforting, sincere smile, along with a comforting grip on her shoulder.]

Fearing the future is something we have in common. But I think we can move forward. Talking to you has certainly helped me the possibility easier.

[ And to think, she didn't even mention the Chronophage. But .. that was for the best, she didn't want to make it all about her when she felt like his troubles were heavier than hers. Although it was kind of funny, that he grew up with only one sibling, similar to her - only Happy wasn't exactly a 'sibling'.

She smiled back at him, nodding gratefully. ]

Yeah.. you're right. I actually feel a bit better too. [ Usually she talked to Shiki, or Happy, but she didn't want to bother them. It was nice to have someone else to talk to. ]

Oh.. how is your back feeling..?

[Even if his job still involved killing in the end. But he was just happy they could be like this, laying everything out there to stay by each other's side.

[Words from both of them seemed to be a bit of a disaster. Anyone overhearing them likely would have likely teased the two mercilessly. But he did appreciate the sentiment regardless. Just...maybe be less awkward in how they handle things.

Just as she moved though, he had closed in, initially worried the towel might come undone. Except...his hand brushed against the edge, undoing it a bit. His face grew red, Hei freezing in place.]

I...I uh...[He was kind of frozen at the sight.] ...it was an accident, I swear!

[ It was her own fault for having an ill fitting towel - this kind of thing was bound to happen eventually, especially with ..her measurements! All the same when it dropped, she froze for a second, then let out a surprised shriek, quickly covering herself and grabbing for the towel. ]

Don't look!!!

[ It always ends up like this! And she just got closer to her new friend too! ]

[This also tended to be the typical Hei-style luck. It was hard to look away, caught in the headlights as it were. Not his first time seeing a chest so openly like that, but Rebecca easily had the biggest one he ever saw. Once she covered herself though, he grabbed the towel and lifted it up quickly, looking away for modesty. Probably best if he just sat there and did nothing else.]

...I saw nothing. [And yet the image in his head wasn't leaving it.]

[ Oh he saw, She knew he saw, he knew he saw. Though at least he was TRYING to give her some modesty. She was still blushing fiercely, but she didn't react by slapping him or anything. She supposed.. it wasn't his fault. Still.. ]

I-I.. should get back. It's late enough as it is. See you in the morning... [ Time to make her belated escape! ]
