[ yakov's a drafted russian medic in WWI, a devoted bolshevik. he's generally quiet, stoic, and compassionate, exhausted by the fighting with no personal stake in the war. he fills a leadership role for the men that their actual commanding officer doesn't. down to play him in ww1 or during the revolution; in general he doesn't see the "enemy" as his enemies and is liable to help pretty much anyone who's wounded. ]

[ vasiliy's a true believer in communism - and, at this point in his life, stalinism and stalin (and yezhov's) cult of personality. he's a 'good cop' style interrogator in the soviet NKVD (predecessor to the KGB) during the late 1930s - his entire job is to approach prisoners and emotionally manipulate them into signing falsified confessions by acting as though he's not like the other officers, has their best interests at heart, etc. off-duty, he's charismatic, confident, friendly, generally an enjoyable person to be around. pref is to play him outside of the interrogation room, interacting with civilians, others in adjacent departments, etc.

also down to play him in orgraspred (communist party HR/staffing dept/conflict mediation) in the first half of the 30s, or back in the 1920s when he was just a clerk at a local party office. i'm flexible! ]

( i think alexei's heyday as the red guardian in the 1980s is pushing it, but i'd loove to do stuff during that time anyway. if not, i don't mind bumping him back a couple of decades during the earlier years of the cold war. i also don't mind (and would really like) to do alexei as the red guardian during the great patriotic war (wwii) where he would truly be captain america's counterpart. i could also do him during the russian civil war on the bolshevik's side against the white army. i think i could also do alexei during napoleon's invasion of russia and the war of the sixth coalition (maybe not as the red guardian or a supersoldier, but as a major or lieutenant general?)

The man they call the red guardian stands out even by his height alone; there's only one other comrade who stands at eye level with himself and it's Comrade Dzerzhinsky, who, given his dramatic slightness of frame, the man standing with his back to Yakov some several meters away clearly isn't. No, this is indeed the man the telegram to the House of Special Purpose told him to retrieve. ]
