Meeting during times like these wasn't all that easy. Paroles to make sure one was actually talking to the right person, trying to arrange for a safe spot and then there was still always that bit of doubt. Who could still be trusted?

Up until facing the difficulty of this decision, Sirius hadn't realized that he trusted Peter more than Remus. That he doubted Remus. Missions alone, contact with werewolves... Who knew what they might have on him or could have on him if they thought he knew something of importance.

But Peter. No one would ever suspect Peter. Why would they, when James had two other friends, much better suited to be secret keeper? Genius idea and Sirius had managed to convince James and Lily of it. He was still primary secret keeper for now, but the sooner they made the switch the better.

Sirius knew he was a living target. He didn't actually expect to survive the war. But if James' family could be protected, it was a worthy sacrifice.

He waited in the muggle bar in London, such an unassuming place, watching the door, hand always just a bit away from his wand. Peter should be here any minute, but these days, one never knew for sure.

[ stark makes all the best toys. some of them are a lot flashier than others, and some days james wonders if he's the only one who remembers that espionage should go hand in hand with subtlety and stealth. then again, he likes it as much as she does when he gets to blow things up with one of her newest inventions, doesn't he? so maybe he shouldn't complain.

it's been a long mission and he's nursing an abrasion on his shoulder from where he'd hit an already unstable wall which had crumbled under his weight, adding just a little more distance to his fall. it's nothing to see medical over, he figures it's just bruises and scrapes. he can still move everything. ]

You should build me some kind of armour next. [ said with an upward quirk to his mouth, he's not entirely serious. ]

Other than being rather bright when it comes to computers and encryption, Thrice is utterly harmless. Really. Truly. (Mostly.)

That said, he has a nasty habit of accidentally working for Very Bad People without really paying attention to where the money comes from. Perhaps some morally upstanding citizen (or spy) has been sent to take apart his lab? Find out who's behind the latest and greatest disaster? Woo him over to the side of righteousness?

[ she's not thrilled to have to attend this event, especially since it's not a guarantee that their target will even be there. she understands that they're necessary ( or, more accurately, they've explained why they're necessary and she agrees because there's not much of a choice but to ), but they're not her favorite part of the job. it's inconvenient and exploitative; she would much prefer slipping in and out undetected, or getting her hands dirty with blood and broken necks, but that's not going to be possible with this particular mission.

so the two of them are dressed to the nines, weapons carefully concealed within their clothing and accessories in case they should need them. they're not expecting to, but luck favors the prepared and they don't have much of it on their side. getting inside is no problem, as their false identities are on the guest list, and once they're inside they start to do a slow surveillance of the room. her arm looped through his, she leans in close, murmuring what would appear to be sweet nothings to any casual observer. ]

Technically, this is off the books — Natasha never says it, but it's there in the way her mouth twists when she says personal and help in the same sentence — and she says it's small. Surveillance, mostly, but she could use it. (Again: she doesn't clarify what 'it' is. Says nothing about soldiers and Russian winters and a man who didn't know who he was but called himself James.)

So it's four am and they're sitting in a car, black paint and blacked out windows, and she's sipping at cherry soda through a straw. It turns her mouth pink. Natasha acts nonchalant, but never once does her attention slip from the door across the street. ]

[ As it turns out, it's like the old saying goes: there are always other fish in the sea. Most of those fish are unimportant, little more than collateral damage and expendable losses in the face of nabbing big name Volunteers like the McVeigh brothers. But people are naturally greedy and will always want for what they don't have. Sometimes that something is freedom, sometimes it's revenge; when it comes to intelligence finally picking up the McVeighs, it's a matter of bigger fish to fry, larger names, bigger scores. Proverbial notches in political belts as MI5 agents look to climb their way higher up the chain of command.

Rather than throwing Gerry and Connor in the cooler or stringing them up by their necks, they turn what remains of the McVeigh family and dump them right back where they found them (minus a mother).

Sean is spending the weekend with the neighbors — an old gran, whom the family's known all their lives — while Collette travels to London and then to Dublin to supposedly meet a new paramour she's been keeping from her friends. She's watching the telly (there's been another incident in south Ireland) when the door of the hotel room unlocks with a loud thunk. ]

[ espionage is not the most exciting job in the world. the movies make it out to be glamorous, all fast cars and swanky hotels and beautiful clothes. sometimes that happens, but the vast majority of times it's more like this: sitting in a car for hours, watching the hotel that a suspected terrorist has booked and listening to him snore on the bug they've planted in his room.

it isn't exciting and it isn't glamorous. in fact, the word that first comes to mind is boring — except it isn't that, either, because will is in the car with her and, well. she couldn't find that boring if she tried.

she doesn't try to find it boring, but she does try, very hard, not to let her curiosity take over. will graham might be one of the best, but he also has clear boundaries and alana understands that sometimes for the sake of national safety, it's necessary to push those boundaries, but if she has any say about it, she won't be the one doing the pushing and there'll be very little of it. as little as possible.

the desire to respect his boundaries is at war with her desire to understand, to know more.

[ A freelancing agent for a small upstart company, Sophie specializes in the theft of little things - jewellery, thumb drives, test drug vials, anything that fits into a purse. Spying would probably be a good second career for her, if she ever switched jobs, though her gentle-hearted disposition might seem a little too sincere. ]

[ Wally's work with the agency is top notch, or so he'd like to think. He's at least skilled in getting into places quickly and then getting out. He's a charmer and capable of playing the parts he needs to. He has a pretty damn good knowledge of both the film industry and the sciences, so he's a bit of a hot-shot with sights set high. There's always just one thorn in his side at the agency, and he's staring at her right now.

Artemis - he doesn't even want to know why she's with his division, even though he really knows it's because Roy went off on his own task force. She was always mouthing off at him and just, guh. She's going to ruin everything, the redhead can just tell.

It doesn't help that this job's taking place at a party full of foreign businessmen all looking to capitalize on tech and information trades. This place is a powder keg waiting to blow, and Artemis is there to set him off. Not unless he can get her away, though. So he starts weaving his way through the crowd, staying out of her line of sight until he's made his way behind her, but so that they're not facing each other. ]

What are you doing here? [ It's said through grit teeth. At least he's level enough not to use any name that could burn her, since he doesn't know what her cover's supposed to be here. ]

Canonically a brilliant actor, and generally not afraid (even when he really should be). Would be perfect for any kind of infiltration. I'd like to maybe have him crash some big, fancy party, to steal something and/or seduce its owner (female or male, both fine). As a 'warning', though, I'm really not sure about smut with him. Since he doesn't really do emotions, just acts them, that could be hard. (Or, you know... not hard.)
