The Body Heat Meme

Post with your character! They're now stuck in a very cold place of your choice. It can be anything, such as a freezing chamber, a cavern or a small cabin in the midst of a blizzard. The choice is up to you.
Comment around! Now your character has some company in this bone-chilling environment. The two of them share two things in common: clothes completely unfitting for this weather (be they summer clothes or even lingerie) and a blanket.
A blanket? Yes, just one warm blanket and no other ways to escape the cold. The two of them will have to share it in order to stay alive in this weather. Don't worry, you're sure to find a common language in this terrible situation!
So, uh, have fun, I suppose. Try to not freeze to death!
Protip: friction and body heat are both excellent ways to fend off cold.

[ Backpack: check. Tent: check. Bedroll: check. Cooking utensils: check. Food: check. Water bottles: check. Maps: check. Paper and drafting equipment: check. First aid kit: check. Anti-venom kit: check. Day clothes, light and breezy to beat the heat: check. Night clothes, thick and comforting against the cold desert nights:—

Not check.

That's a problem. The effort of gathering his things together on short notice, securing transport to and from the ruins in front of which he's set up his tent, all for some snooty client who probably won't appreciate the work he's put into getting the request right, apparently repaid in full by the fact that he's going to be fucking freezing for too many hours on end to get any reasonable amount of sleep, and for at least two nights... Ugh, what's the point?

The situation is only made worse by the fact that Kaveh is reasonably sure he can hear his smug arrogant asshole of a roommate intoning into his mind that if he'd just made himself a proper packing list, this wouldn't have happened; and it's a good thing that his irritated yell ("oh, fuck off, you jerk!") doesn't bring a gang of Eremites or a wild animal down on him, because the desert is spacious and empty enough that his melodic voice carries quite a distance. ]

This is the worst, [ is his complaint to Mehrak a little while later, his lips twisted into a blue-tinged pout and his arms wrapped tightly across his own torso, as if somehow doing so will generate the additional heat that he needs. The words come out between shuddering breaths that spread warm fog to the cold air, taking the last vestiges of heat from his body with each exhale. His briefcase hums in an equivalent of pity, but what else is there to do?

With a sigh, Kaveh hugs himself still tighter, trying to think about anything but the biting chill of the desert cold. ]

( alhaitham hadn’t bothered telling kaveh to make a list because that’s not how kaveh works. the flighty, artsy types never do, alhaitham has painfully learned. for someone so brilliant like kaveh, it’s remarkable how dumb his roommate is.

coincidentally, alhaitham’s work finds him traveling to the desert, anyway. he’s set to retrieve some files out there, and while it isn’t the most glamorous of tasks, it is a bit more enjoyable than sitting at his desk all day. sometimes variety is nice.

before he leaves for his own journey, he spots a decent amount of kaveh’s clothes in places they shouldn’t be: aka not with him. isn’t it supposed to be cold at night? ugh. kaveh, why?

considering alhaitham usually packs light, he manages to grab a few of the easier items: longer pants and an extra blanket, but alas, kaveh’s coats and heavier wear won’t make it.

it shouldn’t be too difficult to find his roommate as he takes care of his own task. the desert is big but he’s always seemed to gravitate to kaveh somehow, someway, always pulled back into the illogical nonsense —

is that a shout? that’s a shout. he knows that yell anywhere. it’s almost too easy.

pinching the bridge of his nose, he shakes his head and continues onward. kaveh’s voice came from the general direction of where he needed to go, anyway.

when alhaitham finds him, he’s wearing a heavy coat, scarf and a light pair of gloves. because he’s a rational human being, thanks. )

[ There's just enough light from the moon bright in the sky and leftover from the embers of his dinner campfire that Alhaitham's imposing figure casts a shadow over the canvas wall of Kaveh's tent— and there's a moment of panic where the architect wonders if he's been too loud, if he has indeed been discovered by a group of thugs, where his left hand reaches blindly to close around the handle of his briefcase, ready to call up a weapon at a moment's notice.

Not that better mental clarity really helps him either, because when he belatedly recognizes the scribe's silhouette in the very next moment, he's left wondering if it's a visual hallucination to match the clear sound of Alhaitham's words mocking him in his head.

Of course, none of that makes any logical sense— overheating might cause hallucinations, or imbibing too much alcohol, but he's freezing cold and sober, and that means— ]

You're joking, right? [ It's said on trembling lips even as he stands to pull the fastenings apart to open the tent not only to Alhaitham but also to the strong embrace of the night's chill, and where Kaveh's trying his damnedest to look pissed off, the wince that scrunches his pretty features does a lot to weaken his position. ] What are you doing all the way out here?

[ And why, he wants to ask, do you look so warm? He doesn't voice it, though; it would after all be a rhetorical question at best of course when Alhaitham is obviously warm because he's appropriately dressed, unlike Kaveh who is shivering in his loose shirt and lightweight pants. But he's irritated enough that he has to say something, and what comes out in the end is a demand only slightly whined: ] You realize we could have shared the cost of coming all the way out here, right?

( all things considered, kaveh makes some sense. but only partially. at the time, alhaitham hadn’t known the particulars of his and kaveh’s plans. further, he simply assumed his roommate would prefer the peace and quiet he so loudly complained he was craving when kaveh was the one slamming hammers and god knows what else.

but it’s a relief to see kaveh, even if it looks a bit pitiful right now.

sighing. alhaitham merely shakes his head and steps closer, kneeling down at the entrance of m his roommate’s tent with a half-interested stare. )

Is that really all you brought? ( it’s freezing out here, even alhaitham is beginning to feel it now. and kaveh looks… woefully unprepared. who would have thought. )

[ He should probably be grateful to see Alhaitham, really. There's no doubt in his mind that the other is better prepared than he is, after all, not just from the look of him but the comment he makes, the way he looks around the tent with a look more suited to a researcher than a roommate. Unfortunately, it's the very same look that has Kaveh's eyes narrowing, arms folding protectively over his chest as if somehow it'll be enough to magically warm him, a scowl darkening his features just a little.

Clearly the scribe is going to ignore his very legitimate complaint about shared costs, and so he huffs, stalking back to his bedroll and wrapping it around himself.

Predictably, it doesn't help, and the scowl quickly becomes a pout. ]

I was in a hurry[ he snaps back, not answering the question because, quite frankly, he wants to say, isn't it fucking obvious? ] —and distracted getting everything ready for this... this Archons-damned commission.

[ A shudder, and Kaveh pulls his bedroll tighter to his shivering body. The smart thing to do at this point would be to ask Alhaitham if he has something extra with him, something he can borrow or use or something— But that would mean swallowing his pride, and maybe he'd rather be miserable and lose the sleep. ]

So if you're done judging me—
