Adventure
![]() Lucky you. For a while, you get to eschew a normal life and see life past your door; you're going on a quest! It could be for personal reasons, for fun, for profit, or to save the world as you know it. In all likelihood, it's the latter, given the natural order of things, but hopefully it's not. Whatever the case may be, you won't be going it alone, however. Whether it's just you and a partner or a true fellowship, you've got people to back you up. You may not all start out as the best of friends, that's true - still, the fires of potential life or death scenarios or the threat of losing your booty draw you closer together, and a friendship forms. With one member of your party, more than friendship grows between you. But wait, you have to defeat the dark lord, find the oldest wand, fight evil by moonlight, create a giant robot, or any other number of tasks. There's no time for this sort of nonsense! Actually, you may push them away because of the mission or due to past wounds that tie into said mission. Maybe, though, you can steal moments to get closer, let a romance blossom...or more. HOW to PLAY

you know of a good sniper in the area? :)
[ Spoiler: It's her and this is how he goes about asking for this. Though it's a wonder how he manages to have the time to text her in the middle of all of this. ]

Thank you for the intel, though.
Can't see from this angle. Just a few guards pacing and that's all.
[ She thinks he means her, at least. She's going to run on the assumption of it, at least, and she knows the quickest way down and out and intends to go for it if he makes a move forward. For now, she's watching his back as best as she can rather than doing the recon she should be. ]

But otherwise, do you have any particular scenario in mind? Either he could run in the middle of her assassin missions (in her defense, it’s always going to be someone who sucks okay), they could run into each other while she’s trying to rescue one of her very young students, or it could be something else that’s big enough to threaten the town or something to the point they team up at the beginning? The world is our oyster here, because nothing is gonna be too big or bizarre for this girl, believe me!]

That rescue concept sounds neat and he'd be happy to be included if it's something along those lines. I also like the idea of the issue rolling quickly out of hand and getting out of hand for the entire town just because it'll give them a nice avenue to chat mid-fight! Plus, he'll actually get to show off for once! Do you want to draft it up or would you like me to?]

Wow, they can actually talk for once without it being in the middle of fighting each other for once.I probably won't be able to properly tag for an hour or so, so if you have a starter in mind go for it! Otherwise I'll brainstorm in the meantime.]
Starting light! Lemme know what direction you wanna go in!
As far as Ururu's texts went, it was arguably quite verbose. Kisuke had only just finished making dinner and setting out the plates when he peeked at his phone and saw that little emergency light. Shutting off the stove and locking up, he hummed and picked up his cane on the way outside so he could begin tracking where Ururu's cell phone had pinged last.
He came to a stop in the middle of the street, eyeing the sign for Shinobu's dojo. The front door, mangled, broken inward. Loosing a cool breath, he stepped inside through the opening, a subtle hint of gunpowder, smoke and blood touching his nostrils. Whoever it was that chose their targets, they'd certainly made a great number of mistakes in short order. A quiet sort of fury built beneath his smile as he raised his voice.]
Ms Jacobs? I wasn't aware these were working hours.

Once she got what she could out of the barely conscious neighbor and the children, she was chilled to the bone to find that her one student that always arrived the earliest had been abducted sometime during the attack. After cancelling lessons for the day, Shinobu made sure the present students got home safely and patched up the neighbor the best she could until the ambulance could arrive.
After all of that was taken care of, Shinobu clutches the piece of paper that was handed to one of the students, being told by the attackers that she needed to come to a warehouse at that address and left no further elaboration before leaving. Even if she had gotten considerably better at controlling her anger, the irritation still runs through her that this all happened so easily when the dojo was specifically supposed to be a place for her students to feel safe in an otherwise shitty neighborhood.
Even if Shinobu followed a strict code to never let any of her students see her enact any sort of act of bloodshed, there was no way she would be able to fetch the abducted one peacefully either. And not coming at all was not an option. Honestly, she didn't have much of a plan going into this, but she was one to think on the fly anyway.
Even with the front door busted wide open, Shinobu's going around to lock the rest of the doors of the place, tensing as she senses Kisuke's footsteps long before his voice fills the air. Not aware of his own predicament, a curt sigh can be heard before she steps out of a nearby room, brows furrowed in an irritated fashion while responding.]
Now's not a good time, Kisuke. I was about to go out, actually.

[As Shinobu went about securing the dojo, Kisuke had made his way through the broken hall, passively taking in signs of damage. He saw blood amidst damaged furniture. A little hum caught his ear and, with little effort, he lifted an overturned table so he could pick up Ururu's cell phone flashing from where it had been covered.
He didn't expect any sign of her. Given her message and how he hadn't felt her presence inside, there simply wasn't a chance that it would end swiftly. Numbly, he realized the implications of where he was and what would have occurred. Were Shinobu present, she wouldn't have let a thing happen to any of them. Even in the worst case scenario, he expected it would have been her blood and not someone else's. Without a concern for being seen, Kisuke withdrew a little paper slip from his pocket and touched it to the dried blood, not realizing he'd been holding his breath. The corner of the paper swapped from one shade of red to pink. A lighter pink. Then, to white. A little sigh escaped him and he stood up, not quite relieved but somewhat placated. Had it stayed any shade of pink then he might have gone ahead without Shinobu.
Ururu would surely survive but, even with a child considered indestructible by human means, there were things that could harm her.
Instead, he returned to the front door once Shinobu had finished readying things, herself included. Shinobu's turmoil had slipped right past him when he stepped in earlier and, for the most part, he hadn't paid her the mind she deserved. Once he had confirmation that it wasn't Ururu's blood, something in him settled, replaced with another dark thing he hadn't indulged himself in for many, many years. He balanced his cane's grip on one finger, looking back to her with his usual, indecipherable smile. Taking notice of the paper Shinobu had been clutching in her hands earlier, he made a little connection with no effort at all. He pocketed Ururu's phone immediately after asking.]
You know? It's a lovely day for a stroll! I'd like to accompany you, if you'd have me, Ms. Jacobs.

Walking back to her front door, she grimaces at the sight of it, wondering how many contracts she was going to have to take to fix it before turning to Kisuke. Still unaware of what was going on with him, Shinobu just merely assumed he was up to his usual shenanigans and looks more irritated than usual when she thinks he just isn't reading the room.]
Look, I don't know what you're up to, but I don't have time to play around today. I've got some business I need to take care of.
[Without waiting for a response, she storms on ahead, an urgent haste to her steps.]

If there were one thing he could be trusted with, it would be a need to be absolutely enfuriating, but in the moment--he was more oriented to warn Shinobu subtly. Simply because the kidnappers may have known the two of them were familiar with one another. If they were too friendly, then they would much more on guard.]
My, what a coincidence! I have someone I need to pick up that way.
no subject
However, even if she didn't quite know what to think or feel about him, she had at least deduced that he wasn't a likely threat for her students. That, and once she head his answer, Shinobu promptly stops in her tracks. She hadn't even considered that there could be other children that the band of thugs had managed to pick up in the process. That at least eliminated the possibility that someone wanted revenge for someone she killed, she supposed.]
Wait, seriously? Why the hell wouldn't you tell me that in the first place? [She sighs loudly, expelling at least a minute amount of stress in that moment.] More importantly, why would you come to my dojo first and not the warehouse?
no subject
While he understood the nature of honesty and clarity being necessary aspects of a partnership, he wasn't a perfect specimen of control even on a good day. There were gaps in his defenses and weaknesses that would turn him.
In that regard?]
You have your anger, Ms. Jacobs.
[His smile turned just a little more sweet.]
Allow me mine. Though... I would have come to your aid even if Ururu weren't involved.
no subject
Fine.
[She casts a doubtful expression at his last remark, but not because of Kisuke specifically, Shinobu just tended to be used to dealing with her own messes. Even if she actually tended to be the one to come out of fucking nowhere to help with other people's problems. It just wasn't the case this time.
Continuing on down the streets, she looks around to figure out if there were any decent paths on the roofs to traverse on. However, it didn't seem like this part of the city was good for it just yet. Might as well try to gather some more information, then, if they were just walking for the time being.]
How long has she been missing?
no subject
[Though it didn't require much explanation, he still felt there was a need to give some. Shinobu hadn't been out particularly long but she would have recognized the time for what it was.]
She sent me a message, letting me know she'd be taken.
[Dryly, he sighed and turned to face the street ahead. The closer they got to their destination, the more Shinobu checked their surroundings. He didn't feel the need to. Under the assumption they'd been watched since they left, he already had a couple plans in mind. Dozens, really.]
Be sure to thank her. She's looking out for your student as we speak.
no subject
[At the very least, it seemed like if this was a pattern, any other kids that were abducted were likely taken in the same day. Hopefully that meant that there was still time to save them all, whether she knew them or not.
Her expression softens a little at the remark of Ururu looking after her student. She wasn't certain how old the other girl was, but part of her still felt a little guilty that someone else had to hold responsibility in her absence.]
I will. [While Shinobu typically wasn't one to vocalize gratitude to most other adults, it was a different story with children. Even if her father was killed long ago, she still believed in his warm teaching style and tried her best to emulate it the best she possibly could in dealing with those who were younger.] But that means we need to get there quick, so I can.
[Once they set foot in the next district, Shinobu spots some buildings with roofs that looked traversable. What she might lack in raw power, compared to other assassins, she made up for in spades with her speed and aerial ability.]
You good to jump from rooftops?
no subject
Regardless of their usual banter and teasing, Kisuke found his suspicion that Shinobu was unerringly trustworthy had merit. She hadn't wasted a moment from start to finish and it matched his pace quite well. As he watched her check out their surroundings, he answered her question in a handful of expert lunges and leaps. From the corner of a dumpster to a fence and to one of the lower rooftops, Kisuke made his way up in his uncomfortable looking geta. In short order, he was on the higher rooftops.]
I carry rope if need be. That warehouse--it should have shipping containers beside its fencing that we can jump onto. With a good swing, I can get us in a window.
no subject
Guess there's a reason you wear such a loose fit, huh? But all right... might as well make use of it.
[She sees the warehouse in the distance, stopping at the last rooftop before the rows of shipping containers underneath. Keeping silent for a few moments, Shinobu surveys the area below eventually nodding her head toward a group of a couple armed individuals underneath.]
How many of them do you see? You think we're better taking them out or just moving past them?
