"Should have thought of that sooner." But Sirius let go as well, following the instinct to rub his throat where Remus had held him. He glared and nodded to the other side of the room.

"You clean there, I'll work here and don't so much as look at me. You'll pay for this."

"Do you honestly think I'd want to look at you?" Remus shook his head. "Think you're mistaking me for one those idiots who follows you around blindly just because you've had everything handed to you from birth."

He bent to pick up the cloth, moving to another rack of trophies.

"Easy mistake to make, given how much you stare at my arse." It was an entirely unfounded accusation, since Sirius didn't even know what or who Remus ever stared at, he didn't pay that much attention to him. However, nothing beat an old classic like insinuating a bloke you couldn't stand was gay, so he went with it, while reluctantly picking up another cloth for himself.

"That would make more sense if you weren't always sitting behind me in the classrooms." Remus was focused on his own work, although he spared the other teenager a glance before looking back to the trophies.

Why was Remus bringing logic into his childish insults? Sirius just tsked and did a fairly abysmal job of cleaning the trophies, as could be expected from someone who has never had to do anything like that and who didn't want to do it.

"You'd still do it if you weren't too busy sucking Potter's cock." This is how one disregarded logic.

"Like Snape does yours? Potter's a housemate, but we're not exactly joined at the hip, Black. Besides, he's so far gone over Evans, I'd be surprised if he even realized there were other girls around, much less any other options."

Remus glanced over to see how he was doing and shook his head with a sigh. "Let's just finish this detention. I have assignments to do and this isn't helping."

Why on Earth was he reasonably responding to his insinuations? Took all the fun right out of it. Sirius just huffed and kept cleaning, his thoughts decidedly not on Remus on his knees before him.

Well. Not much, anyway.

He glanced back over at him again and put the cloth down.

"Done." Close enough, anyway. Sirius headed back to the window and took a deep breath, trying to clean his head. He definitely was going to teach Remus a lesson for this.

Remus watched him for a moment before turning to finish. It wasn't his problem if Filch made Sirius go back and redo his half. By the time he was done, his arms were aching a little and he put the cloth down, gaze sliding towards the window.

"...Filch should be back soon."

"Bloody squib gets off on being able to order us around. It's ridiculous."

Sirius snorted derisively and turned around, combing his fingers through his hair slowly.

"Duel tonight, Lupin."

Of course. Technically, he wasn't a danger until the following night, but still, accepting the duel was a bad idea, and yet.

"...No wands." The words were quiet, his gaze sliding to the other teenager.

Sirius frowned, worrying his lower lip before giving another nod. He couldn't really decline now. Besides, he was fairly sure he was stronger than Remus anyway.

"Outside, then. By the lake, midnight. Alone."

[mooncalled]

"I'll be there." Remus left as soon as Filch cleared him.


By the time midnight rolled around, he was near the lake, but out of sight, waiting to see if Black actually planned on following through before approaching.

Naturally, Sirius wasn't in the best of moods by the time he had been made to clean properly. Stupid squib indeed. He held his wand up when Remus approached, waiting for him to see it before moving to set it down on the ground.

"Are you ready?"

Remus put his down as well a moment later, before he walked towards the other teenager, his expression grim.

"...Let's see what you can do."

There were a few moments where Sirius heard how his mother would tell him that this wasn't proper behavior for a Black, but then he just shook his head and took his first swing, aiming for Remus face while pretty much aiming to tackle him at the same time.

Remus caught his fist in one hand, his fingers tightening around it as he caught Sirius with the other, twisting his own body and using the other teenager's momentum to take him to the ground, pinning him there.

One hand held Sirius's hand down, while one of his legs was between Sirius' legs, Remus just staring down at him.

Sirius fought that hold a good long while with all he had, grunting in frustration when he found no way to get back on top.

He tried to twist under Remus, glaring up at him as if defeating him was somehow a huge affront. Not that he was ready to admit defeat yet.

"...Yield and I'll let you go." The words were quiet, Remus leaning in closer, something almost feral in his gaze for a moment. "Or you can keep struggling. someone will come out, and everyone will know you were bested by someone you consider a lesser being."

"What, you want to hold me down all night? That should be fun." Sirius rolled his eyes and tried to land a kick to no avail. "And street thug can do this. You just got lucky, it's not very impressive."

[mooncalled]

"You fight many street thugs, Black?, and hardly till morning." He didn't seem bothered, his fingers tightening around the other teenager's wrist.

"Not really my social circle. And what, you want to call for an audience?" Sirius glanced at his wrist, not wanting to admit that the grip hurt, but it was his wand hand and he didn't want it injured. "This is ridiculous."

"Do you yield or not?" The question was quiet, Remus bending the boy's hand back. "It's very simple. Concede and you can go. Don't and we continue until you're ready to admit you lost.

Again."

"You'll never win against me in anything. Sure, hold me still if that makes you feel better, but I'm not going to give up." Sirius pressed his lips together at the pain in his hand, trying his best to tug it away from Remus.

"I'm not sure how you can classify your position as being able to beat me." The words were dry, Remus just tightening his grip on that hand.

"Or are you so blinded by ego that you can't admit when someone else bested you?"

"You just got lucky. I'll admit you bested me when you actually do." Or never, apparently, given that he wasn't admitting it when being pinned on the ground fairly helplessly. His eyes flicked to his wrist again and he tried to pull his hand away.
