The fact that you're in a relationship with this person isn't public knowledge. Actually, no one knows about it except for the people involved. Perhaps it's the combination of you two, possibly an odd couple, that would bring some controversy or some teasing. Or, you know, you could not want to deal with friends and relatives being busybodies. Your reasons are your own.

Are you content with stealing moments to be together as a couple? Do you want to make your relationship known and the fact that you can't drives you batty? Remember, there are lots of benefits to dating in secret. You can be yourselves completely, away from prying eyes, and get to know each other better as potential long-term romantic partners. In a way, it's ideal.

[ One common denominator between the two was that they both lead dangerous lives. It made sense for their relationship to be kept a secret. BK wasn't the type to let others in on his private life, let alone who he may or may not be romantically involved with. The thing was that the moments were stolen in between; an assignment, a mission, sometimes on the opposite ends of the world in opposing ideals depending who the job required him to take out. He was aware of her position and was careful not to do anything that would directly affect and involve her. More recently over time his ideals changed and his focus was on protecting her, and that included working behind the scenes and taking care of anything unsavory that might be against her.

Today, it was somewhere public carefully chosen away from prying eyes. BK had been dressed for winter even if it was nearing spring. He had his usual suit on under a long black overcoat, wool and smelling of hints of smoke and gunpowder. There was a cigarette he was in the middle of putting out as he waited; The back of a closed movie theater. The lighting was just right and no one would be coming to bother them any time soon. It was a bit of an odd location, but that's just why it worked. No one would suspect it or their presence to be here. ]

[ Jill wasn't intentionally hiding her relationship with Duncan, but it was easier. No questions, no explanations to why he couldn't make a barbecue (as if she could make one on a week's notice half the time, herself, either?) or why he didn't pick her up from work or meet her there or train with her or whatever her friends would use to scrutinize him and make her feel like he wasn't good enough. It was just easier than being a little embarrassed if not shy, but eventually she intended to introduce him. Maybe at a night-over party at Barry's? Might be awkward to share a room, but it would also show how serious she was about him if she was willing to do that.

For now, though, things are working out swimmingly and she's honestly thrilled every time they meet up. Sure, part of it is absence and the excitement of finally seeing someone again, but she knows it's not just their parting that makes it like this for her. It's something dangerously close to love for her and each day she's one step closer to feeling that for him -- what bothers her is her awareness of it.

She has some idea what he has planned, at least. She figures he might try to spot them a movie somehow in one of his odd, spur of the moment romantic gestures. It's always a bit of a surprise considering how mild and quiet he can be, but he expresses his feelings in other ways all the time and this is no different. Honestly, she'd be happy to just relax with him and talk, maybe get in a little smooching time, too? She'd dare to say she might. When she gets his text, she's already dressed in a jewel-tone blue cardigan and cream colored blouse with black slacks, maybe professional or dressed up a bit, but not to an extreme -- especially with the plain flats she sports. It's enough to keep her warm in the weather, especially when she sports a pair of leather gloves to boot. There's room enough in the cardigan's pockets to store them, so she doesn't bother with a purse, just her wallet.

She's quick to get to the rendezvous point, at least. In her car, she texts him back after she's parked. ]

[ Not an idle threat. She's hunted him down before when he didn't make it, even if those times weren't his fault and he was running late or being chased or something else entirely that had to do with work. For now, though, she's parked, unbuckled, and hopping out of her vehicle. She locks it before she trots off confidently about a block away from the theatre before slipping around back and looking for those broad shoulders of his.

When she spots him, her eyes instantly light up and she kicks up her speed just enough that it's noticeable. She stops just short of him with her heart pounding from something other than movement and she goes for his arm, cradling his elbow against her palm. ]

One of the many nice thing about attending balls, in Laurence's opinion, is that typically a gentleman is obliged to dance with an unaccompanied woman, so long as it's proper. Typically, the list of who's a proper dance partner is somewhat limited.

He isn't entirely certain that wives of currently absent army men exactly make the list, but it's excuse enough to be able to be in her company for a moment.
