[The voice comes crackling from an older radio sitting on the counter. That's right. When there was a lull in business, the owner of Tenten would fiddle with the stations until he found what he wanted to listen to. It was almost always old Chinese ballads, and she liked how the old man would end up singing along while he worked.
How strange, that she can remember this as she looks out the window next to their usual table. It's been years, hasn't it? Mr. Huang passed away not too long after Aki became her buddy. And yet here he is, turning the knobs on his beloved radio while the sizzle of food filters in from the kitchen.
Himeno's eyes-- both of them-- scan the blue skies for any ominous clouds. They find nothing. Perhaps she shouldn't worry too much about this storm? Yet she can't quite rid herself of a vague unease.
When Huang approaches and sets down two dishes of almond tofu on her table, Himeno casts a wary look at him.]
...It's just me today.
[As it should be. He has no reason to be there. She has been purposefully withholding the invitation, one could say.
So why does her heart feel a deep ache all of a sudden? Tears sting her eyes and she stares at the familiar placemats, trying to make sense of the despair that floods her body and ceases in an instant.]
But... I just got here.
