You're inappropriate
![]() The Highly Inappropriate Tension Meme |
Touches. Glances. Sides brushing, so close to each other. The moment is, most likely, quite, subdued, and calm. Or it could be loud and full of life, right in the middle of a vivacious party. Yet, no matter the case, your blood is pumping - no, nearly boiling with the passion bubbling between you and your companion. Unfortunately, this sexual tension is completely and absolutely out of line. Whether it be the place, the time, your relationship with the person (be that literal relation or power difference, age difference, experience difference, and so on), your own lack of knowledge, or personal convictions, you should not act on any building desires. But here's the thing about tension: it builds. It builds, and it builds, until... Well, even subtlety can come to an inappropriate head. HOW TO PLAY

Shiki had felt embarrassed about the whole situation. His anemia had forced him to miss class to the extent his teacher singled him out for needing to do make-up work. The only upside? There was another student who he'd be working with.
But he hadn't understood it'd be a more-or-less unsupervised study session, or his partner was... a girl. Not exactly a feminine girly-girl. But, a girl. Actually her presentation actually intrigued him...
"So..." He let the starter trail off. Since the door was shut the atmosphere between them had felt tense. They barely knew each other beyond their names and had been yet to really break the ice. He wanted to know at least a little bit more about her, other than that her name was Kohaku.
"Feel like... breaking from this, for a second?"
He did his best to watch her without being obvious he was really looking at her.

When Shiki asked for a break, she immediately started bracing herself for him to say something stupid. If he said something about "acting more like a girl" she was going to walk out, even if it meant she failed this stupid book report.
In middle school, she would already be accusing him of being up to something. Now...she was trying to be more fair to boys. The situation here was different.
She spent a moment just kind of looking at him with a look that was way more judgemental than she actually meant to give him for a few seconds before remembering that she actually had to talk.
"...Yeah. Sure. I think we can spare a minute or two." She finally said, stretching in her seat. They had all afternoon, after all.

He did his best to imitate, with his own little stretch. Easy. Laid back. Nothing weird. Just a study session with another student.
He decided he'd better get the ball rolling.
"So... they pegged me for my anemia. For missing class due to it. This whole situation, I mean. --Not that it matters."
He let that hang out there. Would it be pushy to prompt her with 'And what about you?' He'd... back off and let her say it on her own terms. He still wasn't looking directly at her.

Kohaku spent a moment considering how to reply to that. How much detail did she want to go into? It was kind of embarrassing. But then, so was just sitting here making Shiki wait in silence for ten seconds every time he said anything.
"I, uh...I had a panic attack." She finally said, while not making eye contact. "I get those, occasionally, when there's too much going on at once. It's an overstimulation thing."

Another few seconds before he went on.
"It's kinda unfair, isn't it? It's not like we chose to be like this." He punctuated that with a soft sigh. Feeling the tension a little loosened, he finally looked fully at her.
...His eyes settled on looking at her hair.

She shrugged. "I'm getting better at controlling them. My sister always says that you don't get to decide the hand you're dealt, but you do get to decide how to play it."
Unconsciously, Kohaku ran her fingers through her hair in an attempt to get it to look at least intentionally messy rather than just like she was a slob.

The hair combing shouldn't logically excite the feelings that it does, but Shiki feels it anyway. It's cute. Kohaku's whole casual vibe was kinda cute. He absentmindedly what it would feel like to touch her hair himself. Just... a soft little brush.
--That was a weird thought. Why'd he have that thought? He turned his head and scratched at his neck to hide the residual embarrassment.
"So... what do you like to do for fun?"
no subject
Kohaku smiled at the memory. Her opponent in the finals had said something about how girls can’t be ‘real gamers’ and then had lost 0-2.
She found herself trying to think of more things she did than just the one game, though. It wouldn’t do for Shinji to think she just hid in her room all afternoon playing video games! Why, if he thought that then…
…Then what? Where had THAT line of thought come from? Kohaku did not visibly blush, but it was a near thing.
[get it, because of melty blood.]
Fighting games. He suddenly wished he was more into them.
"I'm more of an rpg player... Persona is my favorite."
He usually wouldn't admit that so easily, but if she brought up Street Fighter on her own... surely Persona was ubiquitous.
Oh, right. He shouldn't just shift the conversation to his interests.
"But... winning a competition is pretty badass."
He gives a small smile, fingers rolling one of the pens he brought in with him in a tell of nervousness.
eyyyyyy
“I never really had the patience to stick with most RPGs.” She admitted, while eyeing that pen. Her paranoia kicked into gear. Was that a nervous tell? He looked a little nervous. Was he hiding something from her? Did he have a crush on her? Was this some kind of elaborate practical joke by Toyo? Was she overthinking this?
She was probably overthinking this. She threw out a “but Persona has some really good music, if nothing else.”
no subject
He felt self-conscious suddenly at the music comment. Was he weird for liking RPGs? Should he retort there was a fighting game? ...Nah.
"I'd um... probably crack under the pressure, playing anything in a tournament." His fingers went from touching the pen to bringing them to his face to touch his lips. Absentmindedly rubbing across the soft texture.
