Be my date to the dance?
![]() ![]() Who doesn't love the iconic, coming of age experience that is the school dance? It's the one time teens are distracted from their scheduled angst, and such a promised event can cause peace at even the most divided of schools while everybody plans for the most important THING E V E R. Getting excited only makes sense. There's the ubiquitous red plastic cups! Questionable fashion choices and haircuts! Playlists filled with early 2000s r&b and slow jams for nervous slow dances! You better get pumped for this shit, kid. Because that's what you are now, a high school kid, and you're going to the dance - willingly or unwillingly. Put on that button-up dragon shirt, make sure you bring your date flowers...or go stag, because you're a pathetic social reject or something! You do you, bro, and maybe you'll still get to second base.

One nice thing was that her dad wasn't some sort of villain guy who could fly, he worked at a paper company. After Peter had introduced himself to her family and awkwardly presented Claire with her corsage they headed to the dance in Aunt May's car. Once they were at the dance Peter wasn't sure if he was more or less nervous.
"You look amazing. I think I've said that about 10 times already but it's like my brain can't fathom anyone can look as good as you do so every time I look over at you it just... breaks my brain," Peter babbled. He knew that he was babbling but he was both nervous and excited and overwhelmed so he wasn't sure what to do or say.

Peter was sweet, she found his babbling endearing. So when he told her she looked amazing yet again - she'd lost count how many times at this point - she kept a smile on her face. She really was glad just to make it to the dance, unlike homecoming in Texas. Having the most adorable date was a bonus, for sure.
"Thank you, Peter," Claire said, reaching to take a hold of his hand. "You look really handsome. I like your suit."
Her mom had helped pick out her dress, lilac in color, a snug fit except for the where the skirt flared out a little. It would move when she walked or danced, and that made her feel like a princess. She had done up her hair, golden curls falling over one shoulder; she was practically glowing.
"Did you want to grab some punch?"
no subject
"Punch? Yeah, that would be good," he said, his throat feeling kind of dry right now. To be honest he wasn't quite as nervous as he would have been otherwise. Honestly the more he was around Claire the more comfortable Peter felt. Being around her just made him feel good.
"This might be a really silly question to ask but would it be okay if I held your hand?" he asked. Peter wasn't sure what the protocol for that kind of thing was so he figured he would just ask.
no subject
For once she wasn't nervous, not about Peter, not about anything crazy happening at the dance. No, tonight was going to be a normal night. It'd make up for Homecoming in Texas.
"C'mon, let's hope no one spiked the punch."
Not that it would have any affect on her. Claire was fairly certain she couldn't get drunk.

Peter reached out and threaded his fingers through her hand, grinning sheepishly at that. It relaxed him some, making him feel more confident that he could just ask Claire stuff without it being weird. Because he didn't want it to get weird, he liked Claire a lot and he didn't want to change that for the worse.
"I'm going to be honest I don't even know what alcohol tastes like," Peter admitted. While he wasn't entirely sure based on how medicine worked on him (or rather didn't work), it would probably take a lot to get him drunk. Taking a cup he poured her some and then himself. "A toast to this hopefully being just punch?"

[Morgan had gone to the prom reluctantly, put on a nice pair of jeans and a shirt that didn't quite fit them and convinced themselves they would have fun. Morgan was dateless of course, there are certain things that come with not quite feeling at home in the body you're born into, awkwardness being chief among them. And if there is something teenagers are quick to pick up on, it's when someone has an insecurity to be exploited, that and it didn't help that most people around knew of Morgan's troubled home-life.
And feeling ever so isolated Morgan was regretting coming at all, they had lost their only friend in the crowds, and so had ended up leaning against a wall counting the minutes until it would be acceptable to leave. Not that going home would be any more fun, but it was something. Looking around them Morgan spotted Guin, who was also standing alone. Morgan wasn't quite sure where to place Guin, they weren't sure if the two were friends, but Guin wasn't mean to them and she had ditched their deadname in a heartbeat, so there was that. Deciding it was worth the chance, Morgan took a minute to gather themselves before walking over.
And eventually walking over, they lean in on the wall besides her, not directly besides, but close enough that the two would probably be able to hear each other over the loud music.]
Hey Guin, good night so far?
[Morgan was going to ask her to dance, but caught themselves before asking, I don't know her that well and she probably thinks I'm weird and STOP THINKING NOW SHE's REPLYING.]
no subject
I really don't want to be here.
[This is kind of a lie. Guin wants to make friends and have a social life beyond sitting in science lab. But her looks often got her stereotyped as the hot chick, which meant that obviously she couldn't be that smart, despite proving it on every science or math exam. And by now everyone had heard what happened with her boyfriend Stuart. Guin had fallen for the bad boy that she had been warned against -- and he disappeared leaving her feeling vulnerable. Then angry at herself for being vulnerable. So she was hesitant to open up as much as she wanted some kind of companionship.]
What about you, how are you doing?
[Said while pushing some hair out of her eyes. She could identify with Morgan on more than one level. Guin had never spoken about it yet but she was struggling with her own sexuality. She was developing sexual feelings toward other women she didn't know what to do with. The idea of being bisexual didn't scare her, but the thought of anyone finding out about it did. How was she supposed to talk to girls in that way? Would that just give everybody something else to critique? So she was more insecure than she let on.]

The thin blond is weaving his way through the crowd, bodies dancing to terrible music, the incessant chattering making something nervous and cold scratch at the base of his skull.
Gotta hide. Get out of sight.
Maybe he could duck behind the refreshments table, or hide under it until the party ended. Either way.
What Tweek didn't mean to do, was bump into a taller and more solid schoolmate. It makes him flinch back with a wince, holding trembling hands to his chest. Fuck, that almost gave him a heart attack.]
-Nngh S-Shit I'm sorry!
[He doesn't even LOOK at whoever it was, since he's nervously looking over his shoulder instead.]

Unfortunately, his class had chosen to host this dance as part of the festival, and he'd been obligated to be involved. School spirit. Ugh. What a joke. It hadn't been his idea, so why does he have to help out? Well, that's how it is. U.A. likes involving everyone in these kinds of events, unfortunately. He'd volunteered to help with the setup and break down, hoping that would minimize his involvement, but his choice hadn't minimized things as much as he'd hoped.
He's been standing near the refreshments table, because he is hungry. At least there's food. He'd been training all day before coming here. He's distracted enough by eating and by his own annoyance, that he doesn't notice Tweek until the other student collides with him.]
What are you doing?
[Enji frowns. He can tell from Tweek's stance and attitude that he's anxious.]
Calm down.
no subject
...C-Calm?
[His left eye twitches, but he tries. Smoothing trembling hands down his front, the dark green dress shirt was messily buttoned together. A white tie a little crooked, which he tugs on next with a frown.
Wait. Why was he rushing in the first place- until he heard the monotonous tone of his ex, droning nearby as Craig and a few of their mutual friends walked by the refreshment table.]
D-Don't move, big guy.
[A meek plea - in the few seconds of his realization to now, he had hidden behind the bigger teen, waiting patiently for the moment to pass while his heart felt ready to explode.]
no subject
Yes. Calm. It's not that hard.
[Although there are times Enji himself has trouble controlling his emotions, he's not overly sympathetic.
And then Tweek is suddenly hiding behind him, which is even more annoying. Enji doesn't appreciate being told what to do, but he wasn't intending on going anywhere in that moment, so he does stay where he is for the time being.
He watches the small group of students pass the table, his eyes narrowed, his lips pursed. No one thinks much of Enji having his eyes narrowed or appearing displeased, as that's not too unusual. The sight is so ordinary, and the cluster of friends are busy enough talking to each other, that they don't look twice at Enji.
As unamused as he is, he's not about to reveal Tweek's hiding place to them. It's possible Tweek has a valid reason for avoiding those people. That's not really Enji's business. He waits the few moments it takes for the others to pass. Once they're swallowed by the crowd, he speaks again.]
