The Dating Meme

Dating is, when you think about, really weird. It's a totally different thing for different people. Some are friends for years before they date; others start dating on the same day they met. Sometimes, there's a lot mushy stuff involved; other times, the couple acts just like friends. None of this is necessarily right or wrong.

Whatever it is, your character and the character you reply to are now dating. How? That's up to you. Whether it be awkward or not, the relationship will be uniquely theirs.

1. Best Friends to More: Oh, wow, you've been this person's friend forever! But then you realize you have feelings for them, and they for you. Will things change when you change your status?

2. The Sudden Decision: Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy, but here I am, date me maybe?

3. Confession: You've had feelings for this person for, like, ages, and you want to ask them to date you. Or maybe the confession just slips out...
4. Hate Date: You really don't like this person; actually, you hate them. But you don't want them to be with anyone else!
5. I Guess We're Dating: Huh. We are dating, aren't we? Everyone else knew before us...
6. Slow Decision: For the more mature and seasoned, they might fall into something sweet without needing to rush.

[The problem with being the face of Korea's MEKA unit is that nothing you did ever went under the radar. Understandably, any dating scene she was in couldn't go on unnoticed either. Nor the split that came after. It's why she's a bit gunshy when it comes to anything that isn't defending her country or putting on the facade of ~I play to win, LOL, GG!~ D.Va for her fanbase.

She's in sunglasses of her own and a ballcap pulled down low. Together, the two of them are a bit conspicuous when Hana wants to be INconspicuous. One hand is stuffed in the pocket of her hoodie and the other holds his hand as they walk side by side. Where are they headed? Maybe an arcade, where they first met and hit it off when Hana was going around the machines and making it her personal mission to beat all the high scores in her downtime.]

I like you, Bandou, and it's not like I don't wanna hang out. I totally do. I just don't know if going out like this is a good idea. Someone could recognize me and then you'd have to deal with people going crazy over it. The cameras in your face all the time get old. Trust me.

[ It started with Bandou noticing the girl hitting up every machine in the arcade. Even though she was covered up, it didn't come across as odd. If anything, their similar attire gave him the bravery to go talk to her. She'd been taking on a game that Bandou personally held the top ranking score on, and he couldn't help bragging about it while he watched her play. And of course, once she blew his score out of the water, he couldn't help but complain, instead.

But from what little he could see of her, she was cute. And once she spoke to him, he faltered, telling her that she sounded just like professional gamer D.VA. Which was ridiculous, of course, a big name like her coming to tiny arcade. So when she secretly revealed her identity to him, after a few weeks of playful but competitive gaming together, he nearly choked on the drink he had. And when she said she liked him...well, all that pettiness over her kicking his ass at his favorite fighter games suddenly felt insignificant. Hana Song liked HIM. That was the ultimate win, right there!

So it's no wonder he's immediately halting in their walk to the arcade when she subtly suggests they break up. ]

...what?? But that sounds great! Everyone knowing we're together!

[This is why she likes Bandou. For all his complaining about the trivial stuff, it's just that. Complaining. His view on the things she finds draining and cumbersome is approached with gusto — the way she used to approach it. Hana angles a half-smile at him. Sure, it sounds great. It's not like she enjoys having to hide her personal life. It would be even greater if she could do all the embarrassing, mushy, romantic things that girlfriends normally do with the dudes they care about.

Not walk with their held hands hidden as best as she can. It would be super duper great to walk with his arm around her shoulders and hers around his waist. Hats and sunglasses off. Hers, anyway.]

Okay. Yeah! That part does. I want to show off my Player Two! [She'll give him that.] ... But when the media catches wind it goes downhill. Not long after, there are angry fans or overly invested fans. There are things like hate mail and threats. [Subconsciously, she squeezes his hand.] And then it's better to not be seen together.

[All that forlorn energy blows out of her in a frustrated groan.]

I can't believe some people like that call themselves my fans. I just want to do normal things that normal girls my age do.

[COMPLAINS!! How the turntables.]

[ Bandou hisses through his teeth in annoyance. It's the age of the internet. Of course assholes are gonna hide in their homes and toss threats and rude comments at people. It pisses him off, especially when he thinks about it happening to Hana. ]

If they're stupid enough to still threaten you when it gets out you're dating a member of HOMRA, they deserve to get burned.

[ He's told her of his affiliation with the fire wielding Red Clan, proud as he is about being a part of it. But perhaps someone of her standing being associated with the violent street gang wouldn't be any better. It isn't as though they have a good reputation. But Bandou has a hard time looking at HOMRA in anything but a good light. ]

You know we'd back you up if the paparazzi took it too far.

[Maybe not stupid but stubborn enough? Definitely. When it comes to her safety? She has it covered. She's not worried. As they say in this age of the internet: come at her bro.

Sure, she can kick some serious ass but it's still nice to hear that an entire gang is at her back, too. His gang. That's so cool. All the second-guessing she was going through about dating seems inconsequential when she has the support of so many people. All the people on their side versus the few that really suck.]

I know, you guys are awesome and the media would eat that right up. [Taking their locked hands, she raises them to her mouth as if talking into a mic.] "Breaking news! HOMRA affiliated with global icon D.Va?! More at eleven!" [Their hands swing back down.]

They'd mob the bar trying to get deets and I'd feel one million percent responsible.

[ Bandou can't help but laugh at her mimicking of a news anchor. Such a cute, confident nerd. He has no idea how he landed a girl like her, but hell if he's going to give her up to a bunch of nosey reporters. ]

Kusanagi-san would light the entire block on fire if they even touched the door handle.

[ He pauses, though, expression shifting to something a little less confident and more panicked. Sure the crowd could be easily dispersed by Kusanagi, or even Yata alone, but he can already envision their heads angrily turning towards him after the threat was gone. He'd be blamed even if no harm was done to the bar's façade. And he's endured enough beatings from Yata, already! Even for things that he had nothing to do with! ]

Ah...but maybe we can keep the bar out of it somehow?

[Hana grins right back at first, glad he's still able to laugh at her goofiness. It helps her too when she just wants to curl up in a thick blanket and lean into Bandou while she plays video games mindlessly, forgetting the rest of the world for just a little bit.

Light the entire block? Cool. She'd pay to see that! Probably shouldn't happen though with the property damage and attention that'll come out of it. She's going to comment on that in particular when the alarm in Bandou's voice stops her.]

The only way that's going to happen is to make sure HOMRA doesn't come up at all. [She frowns and raises her free hand to count on her fingers.] That means I can never be found hanging out there. Nobody can find out I'm dating you, a member of HOMRA. I probably shouldn't talk to the other members, either. I can't mention HOMRA on stream or really have any idea that they exist.

Seriously, what is the point of dating me? Is a girl, no matter how awesome, really worth all the trouble?

[ Each thing she lists earns a tick of Bandou's tongue. It's total BS. He finally gets a girl - the most amazing one possible btw - and he's gotta put up with other assholes trying to ruin it for him. ]

Of course you're worth it! I wouldn't turn my back on a comrade and I wouldn't do it to you, either. That'd make me a pretty shitty boyfriend.

[ But she's right. There's no way the rest of the group wouldn't succumb to some level of scrutiny. ]

Maybe, I could give the guys a heads up first.

[ He hasn't told anyone about her, yet. Well, aside from Shouhei. He'd pretty much busted into his friend's apartment feeling awesome to the extreme and bragged for twenty minutes. ]

[True, she is pretty amazing... but that's not enough and never has been enough in the grand scheme of things. Attacks on her country still happen. The paparazzi still happen. A difficult dating life still happens.

Bandou's vehemence cracks the uncertainty. Makes her want to fight that much harder. Any boyfriend of hers was worth it, too, wasn't he? Yeah! Not shitty at all. Ugh! This is what she needed.

She needs him.

Also, twenty minutes?! Pshaw. He should boast and peacock for at least an hour.]

We couuuuld, you know, set you guys up an underground bar. One of those speakeasies? That'd be so awesome. Password is "Bandou and D.Va are the best, so much better than the rest!"

[ He grins stupidly at that. ]

We'd need to use secret code names, so it'd be less obvious who's hiding out there.

[ Gotta come up with another awesome username. ]

Though, it'd be even more awesome if it was just a secret place for us to sneak off to together.

[ It wouldn't help too much with the main issue, but it'd be cool. ]

[Code names! What a great idea. The only problem is HOW CAN SHE THINK OF ANYTHING BETTER THAN D.VA? Not possible. Maybe she could go for something cute this time. Tokkitime.

Okay, that's pretty good if she says so herself.

Hana smiles, lifting her hat slightly and lowering her lashes to give Bandou a flirtier look.]

What, do you want to get me alooone?

[Teasing. Unless..... ???

(Wasn't he the one that wanted to show her off? Oh well.)]

[ It's nearly impossible to tell behind his own dark shades, but his eyes have widened with excitement. Thankfully, he's quite skilled in conveying his emotions in other ways. Like right now, where he's exclaiming loud enough to draw the attention of a few bystanders. ]

Hell yeah I do!!

[ And now, where he's looking around as if it will help him think of a place they could run off to. Because yeah, he wants to tell the world they're together, but they'd still need somewhere to do other things, outside the watchful eye of the tabloids. ]

[Oh my god, please!!!

He's embarrassing but also kind of funny and hypes her up. Just like her. Hana laughs and jogs down the street, dragging him with her to get away from the people that have stopped to see who the hell is shouting in the middle of the day. They round a corner before she slows down again, still laughing.]

You're sooooo honest! I like that. What happened to going to the arcade?

[ to finally have found someone who's not totally put off by his outburst, good or bad, is amazing. As such, Bandou is willing to do whatever Hana wants. ]

We can still do that. Could kick everyone's ass at the arcade then go celebrate!

[... Huh.]

Now you're speaking my language!

[Why is it so easy to forget all of the things that plague her when he's around? She was supposed to warn Bandou away from the risks that come with dating her no matter how much it hurt.

Here she is, actually liking him MORE.

Whatever!! He gets a reward from Hana with her grabbing his face and planting a big kiss on his cheek. Followed by her nudging him in the side with her knuckles and taking off again towards the arcade.]

Come on, hurry up. Like the blue legend himself says -- you're too slow!

[That sure is a Sonic reference.]

[ The kiss gets him to blink, a bit surprised. One day he'll full come to terms with the fact that he's got the most amazing girl friend ever. Right now, though, he's still in a haze of disbelief.

Kisses, arcade time and nerdy refs. Really, what more could he hope for! He jogs along after her, smile wide despite her playful hit to his side. ]

No way, you're definitely Knuckles after that punch!

Ew! I'm not a side character like that! Sonic all the way.

[it's funny, she feels as lucky. she wonders if someone else would have taken the escape route she had presented. if they would shy away from the possibility of threats and hate mail. nobody wants that. but that's what Bandou is going to eventually get. at some point.

if it ever comes out that they're dating. and it would, one day. but not now.

now they can enjoy the joy of having a person that just gets you.]

Yeah but Sonic's blue. Red's way better than Blue!

[ Bandou can't imagine negative comments and threats from assholes would matter. I mean, they'd definitely piss him off. And he might very well threaten right back. But it's not something to give her up over. Not unless she truly wish for them to part. That's a thought he's not even going to entertain, right now. ]

Pink is the alpha color!

hold on. he's saying that because of his clan, isn't he? Red Aura or... something? Red Clan.

well. okay but pink is still better.]

Red is def better than blue, though. It's basically a darker version of pink. [other way around but sure. what's a main video game character that's red?

oh duh.]

Mario! Mama mia, Bandou! The asses to kick are in another castle!

Yeah, I guess pink is okay. I mean, there's Princess Peach, Lightning, Kirby.

[ Bandou, even if you're being playful and flirty, you probably shouldn't compare your girlfriend to Kirby. He won't realize that though, he's too busy grinning stupidly. ]
